Massey Ferguson 4707 Tractor Review

  • This is a 150-hour review of the Massey Ferguson 4707 tractor. Most of the hours have been for moving dirt and land clearing thick vegetation in Central Florida. One thing I found in the service manual was the first service is not needed until 500 hours, not the 50 hours communicated by the dealer. The MF engineers know more about what is needed than the dealer trying to add a $900 service to each sale.

    Love your tractor, especially the skid plate for the woods / land clearing. That metal on the front is called expanded metal. Be well.

    I'd imagine the weight of the skid plate to be 250+lbs - centrally mounted at the lowest point it also lowers tractor CG and makes it more stable and grippy on slopes/hills, etc.

    Massey for the win! I'm 6'1" with boots, around 220-230, and my 2607H fits me decently. Someday I'll want a cab, but my trails and my work style wouldn't be easy on all that glass. Eventually, I'll be caught up on reclaiming land, and the 4707 is awesome in my book. Good review!

      I'm right there with you. my plan is to have both. open pasture type work this would be great but trail inside the wood line ill be sticking with the 2607h. both tractor would be a huge benefit

    Agree on the skid plate what do the engineers think that design them, that we just put around with them.

      I would not due brush cutting without one. Mowing is not issue but sticks under there is a problem.

    You must have inspired Ocala tractor because they fully engaged that model of tractor and have it for sale. Im also in florida.
    Keep up the good videos

      I hope they contact me about the skid plate. I can give them some improvements. If they find someone to cut it on a CNC machine they can have a great up sell option.

    Anyone have that link to that full detailed review?

  • @BG-qm6hp
    @BG-qm6hp Před 3 lety +6

    The tractor has a safety feature so the link arms don't move immediately after you start it. After you start the tractor or use the fender controls (or an error code) you need to unlock the linkage, just as you said move it from the 10 to the 1 position then it starts working as soon as the lever reaches the current linkage position. Turning down the draft control knob seemed to help me with the draft float and drift. I just hit 50 hours, I’m changing the hydraulic and powershuttle filters today.

    • @OtterCreekFarm
      @OtterCreekFarm  Před 3 lety +3

      Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear it is a safety feature and not an issue. I'm holding off on the first service until the 500 hours per the manual. I'm anxious about waiting that long so I may do it at 250.

      @BG-qm6hp Před 3 lety +2

      @@OtterCreekFarm I'm a little anxious about the 500 hours too, I'm not waiting that long either, it will take me 3 years to hit 500 hours. Check page 198, those 2 filters are at 50 hours

      @@lakepinesfarm1394 I looked at 5 competing brands, the fit and finish of the Massey stands out (attention to detail like no weld splatter or the zerk fittings weren't painted over etc). They are still offing 0% for 84 months with the cash discount. If you get the front end loader or have any slopes (I have 300ft of elevation change on my property) I think you would be a lot happier with 4wd. This is my first 4wd and I never realized how much of a difference it makes until I turn it off... I leave it in auto 4wd it works seamlessly

    • @OtterCreekFarm
      @OtterCreekFarm  Před 3 lety +2

      @@lakepinesfarm1394 If you can afford it, get the 4WD. 4WD makes a difference even when something as simple as driving into a pile of dirt. You can always turn it off but you cannot turn it on if you don't have it. I use it all the time.

    The skid plate will be worth every penny it cost. Going through the woods I tore off the hydraulic return tube and busted the hydraulic filter housing. Costed close to $800 in parts alone , doing the labor myself.

    • @EronIler
      @EronIler Před 3 lety

      Dealers and manufacturers are always looking for accessories to upsell and this is a great option that is worth a few thousand dollars. If I did it again, I'd have it cut on a CNC machine. It needs a front lip to block incoming sticks and a few rectangular holes in the very back past the vitals to let sand drop out. I would also add a 2" receiver to the front that can be connected to a winch if needed. The oil drain hole is okay but it should be offset to account for the oil flow when draining. A couple of holes in the corners would be used to tug on the tractor or for the tractor to pull on something from the front.

  • @hartleyhomesteadmichigan6041

    Nice tractor!

  • @TOMASH0925
    @TOMASH0925 Před 3 lety +4

    Technically you can add HP to that tractor. There’s a tuner for that tractor to make 100hp. It’s same tractor as the 4710 without all the emissions and different tuning. But a lot of guys are getting the 4707 and adding the tuning to get the 100hp. Prolly void your warranty tho
