    One thing that makes this good is that Spa Guy failed on the first attempt. So did I. I thought I did something wrong which is why I searched for this video. Then I saw his problem and he just tried again so I went back and tried again. Sucess!

    I replaced both my gaskets after watching your excellent instructional video, however, I had a helluva time trying to line up the heater union and keep the gasket in place to get the collar into place. There was hardly any space for play. The gasket kept falling out and I had to start all over again, over and over. I was going out of my mind! Then I called a plumber friend of mine who let me in on a little plumber trick. He said just smear a little petroleum jelly in the groove that the gasket lays in and it will hold the gasket in place. VOILA! SUCCESS!

      Petroleum jelly will destroy your gaskets and o rings!!! Use SILICONE grease for plumbing - specialty item.

    so glad I came across your video. Went to spa store to get half nut that was leaking. Asked if it needed a seal. Told nope. Installed it and even tho I felt that it needed a seal/gasket I believed the experts. WRONG!. H2o poured out of split nut. I will order a kit on monday. Thanks!

    Thank you for the video. It made it an easy fix for me to replace gaskets and O-rings. I found it quite helpful that you covered how things go as planned. It helped to know that I should easily unscrew my heater so I could remove one of the gaskets.

    💯Really appreciate understanding these O rings and gasket locations as well as how and why to use the slice valves or gate valves. I am repairing a leak in roto molded 2 person hot tub by myself. Hot tub service here on Prince Edward Island with Island hot tubs and pools is horrible! The frustration in discussions with them, lack of confidence in their ability to figure out where the leak is, has motivated me to go to youtube and search out all hot tub repair eager people.
    I found the leak! The service person that dropped by didn't even notice it was 6 inches from his nose when he poked his head in where the one door panel was to visually take a look! He wants over 120 dollars for poking around and wasting my time! Imagine! Anyway, it was the spa light gasket that was cracked. I have to go buy a pair of those handy filter pliers wrench even though I already figured out how to remove the nut by using a narrow adjustable clamp. The RTV silicone is curing, a 24 hour minimum to wait, 72 is better, before I continue to fill up the rest of the hot tub. I am counting on that being the only leak because I did the pro tip of draining the water slowly and noting when the drips I was catching outside the hot tub would stop. The dripping stopped just below the highest layer of jets. I didn't notice that the light was at the same level so I thought it was one or more of the jets. It explains why then the dripping stopped once the water was below the spa light.
    This has been a very good learning experience. The more I do things myself the better off things are because I understand how to fix it the next time. Thanks to all the youtube channels that are so helpful to help us learn.!
    I wanted to check in with this video to understand more about what that area of the hot tub is about.
    Many thanks and if you do catch this thread, I was wondering what you or anyone in the community here has done to replace the spray foam that I took out from around all the jets? I saved all the bits. They are all dry, which is what I found suspicious because it is was a jet then the spray foam would have been soaked. I did NOT find any higher up area spray foam that was wet and there is NO foam around the spa light, only the white residue from the drying up from the leak. Do I put some in a garbage bag, the spray foam bits, and stuff it back into the roto molded cavity around the plumbing to try to reinstate the integrity of the plumbing? Or do I use rockwool and figure out a vapour barrier situation, which was what the garbage bag suggestion might address. Cheers from East Canada.🇨🇦

    Thanks for the video, changed my water today and upon starting the pumps noticed a significant leak, took the panel off and went ahead and tightened the ring on the heater and it stopped. Looks like it was put on loose. Ordered a few gaskets to replace in 5 months (when its time for water change)

    This is a great video. I was able to replace the gasket to the right of the heater, but on the left side, the pipe disappears into the spray foam so I don't have a union to the left of the leaking union. This prohibits me from getting the pipe off to replace the gasket. Should I also disconnect the union to the right (will this give me enough movement to move the pipe and replace the gasket)? or can I do something like plumber's tape to stop the leak instead of replacing the gasket? What are my options?

Tightened fittings again. Leaks stopped. Question: can the fitting be tightened too tight, could that be a problem?

    I lnow this is really old and not really exactly related, but i have a american standard everclean whirlpool tub with ez heat 100 safe t ez install heater. Been installed for 10yrs and now its leaking. Thought it may have been a joint that wasnt primed or something so i sealed the ports but one and put a ship vac, turned it on, primed the joints, glued them, shut the vac off, glued the joints. In doing so, i noticed the unions/couplings on the heater are cracked. They look like a two piece, not with screws like this one, but like one side goes on one side of the heater lip and the other side w the threads clips on to that. Cant seem to find those anywhere. Any idea how i can replace these unions?

And it still leak. I'm at the point that i'll cut the slice valve and replace evything. I suspect and issue with the thread of the pipe. It feel good to the toutch however i can't see all arond it because of space issue. Any advise?
    Some told me to try teflon or electric tape but that does not work as the symtem is designed to work on the fact that the seal get press.

    Thanks SPA GUY. Made it very easy. Related question now that the drip is gone. It caused corrosion on the circ pump and the big pump, but now it's all dry, just a bit ugly. But the spa breaker still keeps tripping whenever I try either pump, or even the light by itself. (it trips faster for the pumps than the light) Faulty breaker? Do you have a vid for troubleshooting that?

    Here in NYC metropolitan area, I have tried DIY on a leak in my heater pipe connections, have an old (1999) rarely used 4 person Jacuzzi and have to order parts from their designated company in Plant City FL....last year, I replaced Nut Splits: 2" and O Rings, 2" gaskets, and when leakage didn't end, I just gave up trying to stop the steady leak last season....turned it on for first time today, and wow, water gushed out when jets are open- ... I hand tighten the nut splits, both are tight, I thread them manually. I can't figure this one out ..... Your thoughts, Spa Guy? Thanks.

    I have an arctic spa tub. 3 years ago, I replaced the gecko board because the 220v relay overheated and burned through the cct board. I replaced the pump the next year. I use the tub every morning. Now I have a problem where the tub shuts down on its own sometime during the day and the display is stuck on 59 deg. and I cannot press any button to restart the tub. The only way to get the tub to operate properly again is to shut off the cct breaker and turn it back on again. Can you give me advice on what to check. I am an electronic tech but without the diagram to refer to, it's pretty hard to diagnose the problem.

    After watching this video and getting the necessary gaskets, I just replaced them. However, the union joint is still leaking. Nothing looks cracked or broken, there's no garbage or junk that's affecting sealing. It just will not stop dripping. Any advice on what to do? Thanks!

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  Před 6 lety +1

      Justin if you replaced the gasket and cleaned the edge of the heater tube and it is really tight but still leaks it is usually a misalignment issue meaning the plumbing is not flat to the heater flange.. Loosen the base of the pack with the heater tube in it and then tighten until the leak stops and screw the pack back down.. That usually solves it.. also don't be afraid to really tighten down on the nut, I use oil filter pliers..

    Could this leak cause 3 dots to blink on your control panel? Whenever I turn on my jets on one side of the tub they run for a couple seconds and then kick off and the 3 lights blink. I opened up my tub and realized I my union nuts are leaking but before I get into repairing them I’d like to know if it’ll fix the jet problem.

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  Před 4 lety

      Not it can't and the pump is not stopping because of the 3 dots the 3 dots are because the pump is stopping..

  • @curtlernerphotography9371

    Thanks for the video-makes perfect sense on everything. Crazy thing is ... I have a Sundance Cameo Spa and the union suddenly started leaking around the pipe between the union and the pipe just as you talk of. Figured it was a O-ring gone bad so I first tried the stop leak route with no success. Donated 400 gallons of water to the local fishes and changed the O-ring which didn't look too bad but it WAS 15 years old. Put everything back together and found it drips at the rate of about once every 2 secs. Only drips when the pump is off. Immediately stops when the pump is running. Tried cranking down on the union but no bueno. REALLY don't want to donate another 400 gals of water but no shutoff valves... Thoughts?

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  Před 6 lety +1

      Normally if it only drips with the pump not running it is a suction side leak.. You need to inspect it and you may find it is a crack in the plumbing or a glue joint.. If it is a suction side glue joint leak you can usually start the pump up and put glue around the joint and the suction will pull the glue in and seal it up.. Thanks, Spa Guy

    • @curtlernerphotography9371
      @curtlernerphotography9371 Před 6 lety +1

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  Před 7 lety +1

      John If it is leaking around the heater union usually a gasket does it.. No grease needed.. Make sure the flange on the heater tube is not bent is one thing the other make sure they union and the heater flange line up flat if they are in a bind you have to really tighten the nut tight to stop the leak.. The last thing is look for a crack in the union sometimes they get cracked.. Spa Guy
