  • Did you know that you can use your microwave to kill bugs? It's true. This really works, and it is so easy to do. Please note that some books may have moisture in them. Microwaves heat moisture, so the book may get very hot. This may damage the book and even melt the plastic from the heat. So, watch the bag as you are microwaving it. If you start to see the bag expand, like it is getting blown up like a balloon, then turn off the microwave.
    Please note, sometimes I do not always receive posted questions from viewers, or I do receive them, but CZcams does not allow me to respond to them. Sometimes I do not receive a question until six months after it was posted. These glitches do not happen often, but they do happen. It is my policy to respond to all questions, so if you do not hear from me in a few of days, then please email your question to me at guyspestsolutions@gmail.com. Please do try to post questions in the comment section first and only use the email address if you don't hear from me. The reason for this is that other folks may have the same question, so it would be nice for them to learn as well. Also, I always answer comments first, so it will be faster for you. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Remember... I will always get back to you.

    Use a wooden stick (like a chopstick or coffee stir stick) in your microwave safe container to prevent superheated water. Superheated water can cause serious skin burns or scalding injuries around people's hands and faces as a result of hot water erupting out of a cup after it has been over-heated in a microwave.

    Microwave ovens commit electromagnetic waves at a specific frequency that makes water molecules vibrate. This vibration creates friction and ultimately heat any liquid inside even past the boiling point. The wavelength/frequency is larger than the the size of the holes on the metal screen window of the microwave which contains the electromagnetic waves inside the oven.
    Most bugs have water in their bodies and you may not need to have an extra cup of water. In case you need the contents dry, just make sure you cook it long enough.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  Před 16 dny

      All bugs contain fluids to some degree, but really small ones may present a problem for a microwave. So, the water is just a precaution. The cup of water will not bother the items being microwaved because they are in a plastic bag. Some items being microwaved also have some moisture in them and I have found that, if the bag starts to blow up like a balloon, then you should turn off the microwave because there is now steam inside the bag that can damage some items. If the bag expands, then the bugs are most likely already dead. The expansion of the bag can also be caused by the bugs boiling to death and creating steam. Some bugs have a lot of fluid in them. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Very much appreciated. Be well my friend.

    Here is one: czcams.com/video/B8nnPYBc4hc/video.htmlsi=RrWe1A9ZfZ-sLYhH it appears that insects smaller than the wave length of the microwaves do not effectively absorb enough energy to be harmed

      If you watch that video again, you will discover that he didn't do it correctly. He only microwaved them for 30 seconds. I am recommending 4 minutes. If you put a half cup of water in the microwave for 30 seconds, the water will not boil. The water must be boiling for this to work. Therefore, his test was not valid. What he said sounded great, but he got it wrong. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      @@GuysPestSolutions thanks for your reply Keep in mind, however, that the cup of water doesn’t boil in 30 seconds because there is so much of it. Too much thermal mass to boil that quickly. An ant has a minuscule amount compared to that cup full and would boil extremely quickly if it were going to at all. I suppose the only way to know for sure is to put a few ants in my microwave, and do as you suggest. Maybe someday I will try it.

      All I can tell you is that 30 seconds will not get it done. Four minutes may be overkill though, but I am a big believer in overkill. I want to make sure that I get all of them and the eggs. I think I will do a video showing the results at different time settings. My problem is that I am so good at pest control that I don't have any bugs at all anywhere on my property. I will need to ask my neighbor if I can hunt for them in his yard. Lol. It could make for an interesting video. Thanks for pointing this out. I did the video to show that a microwave will kill ants. I will give you the link. I also figured out how the person who did the 30 second video managed to video the inside of the microwave. It was really easy too. He never closed the door and he didn't turn it on. He just left the door open to video the ants and then dubbed in the soundtrack of the microwave operating. So, he didn't microwave the ants at all. Pretty clever hoax and I'm sure it fooled a lot of people. That means it may be possible to kill the ants in 30 seconds. Be well my friend.

    Hi Guy,
    I would like to recommend a cheap tool for the war on roaches and other bugs.
    It’s an endoscope. They are relatively cheap, you drill a hole in walls, backs of sofas, or other hard to reach places to check if you have any bugs there.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  Před 10 měsíci

      You can find them that way, but since you already have a hole drilled in the wall, you may as well go ahead and treat it with boric-acid. This lasts forever and it will kill or prevent both ants and roaches. You can make a nice electric duster out of a cheap shop vac that is perfect for treating walls. I will give you a link to that video. Be well my friend.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Here's the deal. Microwaves do not heat plastic, but they do heat water. I have had it happen where there was moisture in the book that I didn't realize was there. If there is moisture in the book, then it will heat that moisture and the book will get hot. Very hot. That will melt the plastic. I probably should have issued that warning in the video, but I didn't think of it. Books can get moisture in them if you have them in a humid environment. So, here's what you do. Just make sure that the plastic is tight around the book and watch it while you are microwaving it. If the book has moisture in it, you will see the plastic start to expand, like someone is blowing it up like a balloon. If you see that, then turn off the microwave. I would be more concerned about the moisture causing damage to the book, rather than the melted plastic causing damage to the book. I find that it damages the bag, but it doesn't stick to the book. You will see the bag start to expand after a couple of minutes. As soon as you see this, turn it off. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

Now I can bring them in without fear that the silverfish will get into my existing book collection. Will this method kill their eggs too? Thank you!

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  Před 10 měsíci

      This should kill everything in the book, including the eggs. Just a word of caution though. If the books were outside, they may have absorbed moisture. Microwaves heat liquids, so the book itself may start to boil. This can cause damage to the book and cause the plastic to melt from the heat of the water. So, here's what you do. Just make sure that the plastic is tight around the book and watch it while you are microwaving it. If the book has moisture in it, you will see the plastic start to expand, like someone is blowing it up like a balloon. If you see that, then turn off the microwave. You will see the bag start to expand after a couple of minutes. As soon as you see this, turn it off. I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

    Hello Guy,
    I have a question about cockroaches and what is required for their extermination in a multi-unit apartment (35 units). I moved in just 2 months ago and I've been dealing with roaches the entire time I've been here. The property management company is refusing to do much about it. I've seen several nymphs and far more adults. I've seen one or more on a daily basis for several weeks now, despite killing dozens. I'm assuming the entire building is infested. Unfortunately, I don't know what variant I'm dealing with, would it be okay if I sent you an email with some photos so you could share your expert opinion? It would be greatly appreciated.

    • @GuysPestSolutions
      @GuysPestSolutions  Před 10 měsíci

      You can send photos to guyspestsolutions@gmail.com, but I can already tell you that these are German roaches. I would bet the ranch on it. Please watch my video on how to eliminate German roaches. I will give you a link to it. You are correct that, if you have German cockroaches, then the apartments surrounding you also have them, and they are breeding in the walls as well. Since the landlord is not going to allow you to drill holes in the walls, and since they will continue to come in from adjoining apartments, it is virtually impossible to eliminate the problem 100% in an apartment. Still, all is not lost. If you do everything in the German roach video, except drilling holes in the wall, you may never see another cockroach again. If you do a thorough job with phase two, and you apply Nibor-D and boric acid every place a cockroach can possibly place its foot, then they will have no choice but to cross it when they enter your apartment. Contact with these materials will result in death within several days, and that is not enough time for them to reproduce. Therefore, they will no longer be able to establish an infestation in your apartment. When they enter the apartment, they will generally seek a hiding place as quickly as possible, so it is possible that you may never see them. If you do see them, you can be confident that they will be dead within a few days. The key to achieving this is thoroughness. Be sure to apply Nibor-D on all the baseboards and puff boric acid under all the baseboards. Never spray a liquid, like Nibor-D, over the top of boric acid. Always apply liquids first, dusts second, and baits last. Be sure to remove all the ceiling light fixtures and puff boric acid around the electrical boxes in the ceiling. Also spray the inside of the light fixtures, where the wires are, with Nibor-D. If you cannot remove the light fixtures, then spray Nibor-D around them on the ceiling. Make sure that you mop all the floors with Nibor-D, every time you mop. It is also important to spray the carpets as well. Nibor-D should be mixed at a ratio of 2.5 cups per gallon of water for mopping and spraying carpets. It should be mixed at a ratio of 7.5 cups per gallon for all other applications. Pay particular attention to the kitchen and bathrooms. It is very common in apartment buildings for the kitchen and bathroom walls to adjoin other apartments. The pipes are a natural highway for roaches to get into your apartment, so make sure that you apply boric acid around all the pipes, in all cracks and crevices, under all appliances, and any other places where it will not be disturbed by people, pets, or air currents. Prior to applying the boric acid, make sure that you remove all the drawers, and apply Nibor-D inside all the cabinets and on the exterior surfaces on all the drawers. Remember, the idea is you want to apply either Nibor-D or boric acid on every surface where a cockroach can possibly place its foot and that will not be damaged by these materials. Trust me, if you miss a spot, the roaches will find it, so leave no stone unturned. Even though you cannot drill holes in the walls, you can still remove the outlet and switch covers and treat inside and around the electrical boxes with boric acid. I recommend that you watch the phase two portion of my video more than once, to be certain that you understand exactly how to do it. The better the job you do, the less likely you will ever see another cockroach again. Finally, after you are finished with phase two in the kitchen and bathrooms, be sure to seal up all cracks and crevices around pipe penetrations. No sense making it easy for them to get in from another apartment. All the products are listed in the description of the German roach video. If you send a photo, please watch my video on how to do it correctly. I will give you a link to that video as well.
      I hope that helps. Be well my friend.

      Hmmmm. I usually treat shoes with an aerosol pesticide, but I suppose if there is no metal, then you can try microwaving them. Start with 20 or 30 seconds to see if there is any damage. If not, then try 40 seconds. If you are still good, try 60 seconds. That will probably kill the roaches, but you can go longer to see what happens. Just take it in baby steps and if you see any damage happening at all, then stop. Tennis shoes do not contain water, so make sure you put half a cup of water in the microwave.

      JSo basically u want to use several different methods. 1. Spray plant with talstar 2. Put diatemaceous earth all around the base of the plant to kill any eggs that may hatch. 3. One week after spraying the talstar, spray Malathion insecticide. 4. One week later, spray talstar again. 5. Next week spray malathion again
      If u still continue seeing small remants of mites, use a different 3rd insecticide for the following week and rotate. This will 100% get rid of ur problem by rotating insecticide used each week. It worked and saved all my plants this summer. Hope this helps!!
