  • Sacha Baron Cohen is a master at creating satirical comedic characters. His controversial character from the 2006 movie Borat not only made him into a comedic star, but it even earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor.
    Even before he rose to fame with Borat, Cohen was already a household name in Britain with his character Ali G which first appeared on The 11 O'Clock Show and subsequently on Da Ali G Show.
    Cohen has continued to shock and stir controversy over the years, but lately, it seems like Cohen has disappeared from the spotlight. Here's the real reason why you don't hear from Sacha Baron Cohen anymore.

      @SamfisherSam. I'm pretty sure I said "One hit wonder," and not "under performing." A one hit wonder generally refers to a performer who fades into obscurity after one hit. This was not the case for Sacha.

    I think he'd make a good Freddie Mercury and has the ability to do it justice. It's the greedy, controlling surviving Queen members who want it to be about them, and to tell the story they want to tell, rather than the story people would really want.

    • @joee2226
      @joee2226 Před 7 lety +16

      Wrong. Nothing to do with greed. They felt that Freddie would not have wanted his private life portrayed on screen, and that such a film is unnecessary. As a fan, I have to agree. The man, in life, was a very shy and private person. He was known for promiscuity in the gay scene in the 1980's which led to his contracting HIV which went full blown AIDS. He spent the late 80's wasting away while tabloids harassed him. This is not something he would have wanted nor his band mates want to be portrayed on the big screen.

      Yeah they're good musicians but nobody really cares that much about the rest of Queen, let's be honest everyone wants to see a Freddie Mercury biopic and Sacha is probably the only person alive today who could pull it off, looks and mannerisms and all. Such a shame it's not happening.

    • @tori2dles
      @tori2dles Před 6 lety +1

      C.F. Gauss - Parsi actor Jim Sarbh has the acting chops to do Freddie. What’s cool is that Freddie was also Parsi.
      I do think May has a point that Cohen could overshadow the role with his own iconic persona as opposed to an actor who allows the character to overshadow (even take over) their own persona.

    • @scottxu
      @scottxu Před 5 lety

      @@joee2226 Agree, the little glimpse of it in the film is already disgusting enough. I think the film did well in highlighting Freddie's best moments as well as portraying the chaos, loneliness and vulnerability of his private life.

    The whole problem is he became hugely famous. When I started watching rented DVDs of him with my best friend when we were teenagers he was very low key and got away with doing this stuff for many years, at which he was a genius. Now that each character has come into the spotlight, and very successfully, he can't re-use them to troll people anymore because it's instantly recognizable. I don't think people have seen the craziest things he's done unless you go back and watch his stuff before he became famous from the Borat movie.

  • @joee2226
    @joee2226 Před 7 lety

    Brian May, guitarist of Queen, stated that he felt that the fact that Sacha played as Bruno would distract audiences from taking him as Freddie seriously. Also, the surviving members who were involved (Brian may, and drummer Roger Taylor, sans bassist John Deacon who has been in retirement and living in recluse) felt that they should make a "family friendly" movie about Queen instead of an in-depth biopic about Freddie, including his private life, which Sacha pushed for. Trust me, such a film would NOT be "family friendly" and the band mates feel that Freddie wouldn't have wanted such a film.

    I loved him as Time in through the looking glass and Pirelli in Sweeney Todd, seeing him in those more serious but not too serious roles is refreshing and I hope he gets more into them. However, watching ali g as a kid is imprinted in my memory lol. he's just a great guy and actor tbh.
