The metal tray thing could be useful, because I have a habit of forgetting to get some meat out of the freezer in enough time to defrost, and I don't really like defrosting in the microwave. The pizza oven thing could be great but would mean you can only cook one pizza at a time, and if you have friends round you don't necessarily want to have to be keeping an eye on how ever many pizzas you're cooking, you just want to be able to chill. That's my view anyway...
if you squeeze a steak between 2 stainless steel pots it goes even faster, i assume it also goes faster if you squeeze the steak inbetween 2 trays instead of 1.
Ryan Tsui - noted. Thanks 😀👍
Laura Norda, I've been using a thawing tray for years, it really does work. In response to Ben's comment about cooking cold meat, once it thaws put it in a warm marinade with whatever flavors you like for about 15 minutes, good to go.
Thanatos - id say you can cook at least 2 pizzas at a time.
aluminum baking sheet pan, same thing but a lot bigger and faster. plus you probably already have one somewhere. the way tray work is to distribute heat into a bigger surface area just like a heatsink, so a room-temp piece of metal is all you need.
I love how they say the Mandolin Cutter is called a "Gebrauchsanleitung" wich is the german word for instruction manual XD
I was about to comment that😂
Like Jessica, I was also about to comment on that. The way he pronounced it was just spectacular.
@@travnicek took me a while to understand what he was saying 😂
Never go into the kitchen without your trusty Gebrauchsanweisung. Couldn't do without it^^
Same thought
I want to see a pizza made with a fresh base in that gadget.
Ditto!
Kate H I’ve owned it for 4 years, it only works with fresh dough and it works great.
Bread? Would it cook through?
I definitely want to see them atempt the pizza gadget again with a proper pizza dough.
YEAH WITH PINEAPPLE ON IT!!!!!
James giggling over the latte art pen made me so happy
James is a fucking cutie for sure.
James is my favorite 😍
Kind of like a puppy with a squeaky toy.
4:02 ‘It’s alright...it’s GRATE!’
Omg Ben.
I literally face palmed. That was worse than the dad joke.
It was better because no one reacted tk it 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Stole my comment xD
3:40*
That wasn’t a dad joke of the week
That was a dad roast of the week
Well, sunday roasts are common in the UK.
You even hear Mike laughing from the background haha
I'm pretty sure dad jokes shouldn't be sexual
They can be any topic and that joke was hilarious!
Good zing Jamie.
My girlfriend is the chef in our house but she has arthritis. Those mandalin chopping gadgets are really helpful on days when she's struggling with her wrists and can't control a knife properly
me too. fingers and wrists.
Lydia Does It All that plus it easy when cooking for groups. I do that once a week. I wouldnt bother using it for 1 onion but i do use it when i cook for groups.
Also it sounds stupid but it helps when cutting a whole bunch of onions without ruining my make up.
@@IrmaU94 sounds smart, not stupid ☺️❤️
Oh good! I was wondering if it would be useful for me (nerve damage) so thanks.
@@violetskies14 it should really help you ☺️
The defroster tray is for when your mum calls you on the way home and you remember you didn’t take the chicken out of the freezer
That one, highly specific scenario suddenly makes this worth a purchase for me lol
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If only I had this as a kid, I'd probably live 5 years longer
I had 1 of these and it does work reasonably well.
Yes, that’s exactly what it’s for or when you haven’t decided to the last minute what do you wanna have for dinner. I absolutely loved mine. I wonder what happened to it? And since I don’t have it anymore.
"Be careful of your hands, mate."
* two seconds later *
"Ow"
James almost getting emotional over how good that latte pen is, made me laugh out loud
"be careful with your hand mate"
"OW!"
James is such a big bloke, but he's got the most innocent expressions ever. ♥
Their reactions to latte art pen made me laugh so hard. You can see how they are doubting that it's a kitchen gadget, but then again, they know that they probably couldn't show adult toys on their channel...
Consider the crew though. I have to assume there have been any number of non-kitchen gadgets they have dropped in there just to see them try and guess what the hell it is just for their own amusement.
i love how you can immediately see that ben went second because the gadgets are all slightly messed up after james is through w them
Give that mobile pizza oven another shot, could be that frozen pizzas just don't work too well with it.
Definitely, we want to try it with fresh dough!
Maybe put it on the defroster board first, and it'll be ready before it can burn xD
SORTEDfood it looks like it uses a stone, so try other things after. Like reheating pizza, steaks, or maybe a breakfast on it.
GENIUS
Or they didnt follow the directions properly.
Ben's reaction to the latte art pen is PRICELESS!!!
and my German professor said I'd never need to know how to say "instructions" in German
Actually it is Manual
3:25 Gebrauchsanleitung is german for instructions not the name :D
Oooops!
But I laughed about it because I'm german, so thanks 😂
I'm laughing so hard!
I don't no if it's just a brandname for this gadget in Germany, but I know it as "The nicerdicer" 😅😂
Florian that’s what I was thinking hahaha
“Calls himself a chef - burns frozen pizza” 😂😂😂
"Chef"
Why aren't these videos in a playlist on their own?? Would be really helpful cause I'm addicted to them but I have to sift through everything else...
Ben's "oh my god i guessed the price" face (4:06) is, perhaps, one of the most precious things i've ever seen.
I would use the all in one mandolin chopper thing the only reason is because I’m disabled and sometimes my fingers go numb and that’s not good when holding a knife
Well, that certainly puts some adrenaline into onion chopping.
Same here! I have poor fine motor skills and tasks like chopping and mincing are really difficult for me, especially in cool or damp weather. So any gadget that can help take some of the stress off is fantastic.
It’s “grate” thanks Ben 🤣
Kate H I don't know why thy didn't "ooooh" Jamie and Baz have either just had a disciplinary and are a bit nervous at work, or they're not really themselves...
Ahhh the defroster tray!! When I was 20ish, I was with my boyfriend who was housesitting a relative's (very nice) house. I was making dinner and grabbed one of these, thinking it was a cutting board and scratched it ALL tf up. I panicked and put it back without saying anything. 😬
Ben reading the instructions for the pizza oven practically hidden behind it is a fairly cute sight.
James being excited about that pizza oven, and then being let down is me with literally anything new in life
I actually had a defroster tray when I was growing up. I used to just put ice cubes on it and watch the ice cube melt in minutes. No one believed it would work either but every single time it would instantly melt ice. I was not very productive as a child
Any metal tray works cause its conductive. If tried putting an icecube on metal vs a plate you can see the difference lol
I know it's late to mention this, but for anyone interested that comes across this comment: Heat can only conduct into an object from the boundary, usually assumed at a rate proportional to the temperature difference along the boundary. Air is an insulator, whereas metals are conductors. Because the heat inside the metal dissipates quickly, it also induces a temperature differential where it meets the meat. In turn, this conducts heat into the meat's interior. James and Baz were right that your chicken was upside down from what it should have been, with only a fraction of the surface area touching the surface. You can do the same thing with an eight sheet tray. The specialty tray would have a slight edge, however, since the ridges are there to take advantage of convective heat transfer as well.
(Grates cheese)
"It's alright. It's great!"
I see what you did there
I love this series it's hilarious seeing James' and Ben's reaction to the gadgets 😂
They liked them way more than we expected they would in this episode!!
Wow Jamie was taking no prisoners with that Dad joke
I can’t. Hahahaahh “ive never used one before” hahaha
That pizza cooker is actually a common household item in Italy, but you use it with freshly made ones, not to defreeze the frozen ones! And i have to say it does a bloody good job at cooking pizzas.
Love the gadget reviews. Use the pizza oven more.
Yes yes yes yes!!
I think it could be useful for italian bread, which also requires the rock thingy. Ben could try that.
Dad joke of the week, brilliant addition to the show.
"It's alright, it's grate!" and zero credit for that dad pun.
"Its been used."
And this is where I lost 135% of my shit
I lost it at "...I've never used one before!"
its actually called the "Gebrauchsanleitung" which means instructions you genius 😂
Thank you!!!
I was trying to figure out what he said for like 5 minutes.
I cringed the moment he said that, but then I thought he might be joking.
I really hope he was joking.
Even for a German I didn’t understand it the first time
Jules I thought is was slicer dicer 😆
I am dutch and the first part was pronounced as the dutch gebruiks instead of the german gebrauch, made me get it straight away.
I'm really glad you guys tested the defrosting pad thing because I've seen the commercials for it and never in a million years thought it would work that well. If it works as well as you say it does, that would be really useful. That's the first gadget I've seen in a test like this that I might actually buy.
stormbob, I've been using one for 20 years. The same one. I think it cost
The defrosting tray works because it's a chunk of metal that conducts heat to the meat. If you put your meat in a metal pan to defrost it does exactly the same thing. If I have frozen food that is packaged in sealed plastic I out it in a bowl of cold tap water to that, that works even better because the whole package is in contact with the material that conducts the heat.
Could you diy with aluminum foil I wonder? This kinda sounds like the beginnings of a kitchen science experiment...
My parents have had one for years
My sister and mom both have one. It's great for when you forget to take things out of the freezer ahead of time.
My dirty brain thought the pen was a vibrator 😂😂😂
so did bens lol
You are not alone. 🙃
Is my mind worse than yours because all I want to do right now is buy that pen and draw penises in peoples coffee
The funny thing is that Barry says it can be use by children teenagers adults and old ppl
Well, it does look like (forgive me this) a prostate stimulator.
I too have a latte art pen only it's locked in the drawer of my bedside nightstand for those late night latte cravings.
I love how happy James was to catch that pamphlet! Lol
Also, YES! Please test the pizza maker thing more!!
I am not quite sure, but I think, when asked what the green chopper-gadget is called, Jamie read: "Gebrauchsanleitung", which is the German word for the instructions-booklet!
That latte pen got the best reactions from them. I thought the same too
These gadget videos are when James really cracks me up. His sarcasm and giggling are priceless. 😂😂😂
I absolutely love James’s enthusiasm 😂 he gets so excited. Also the “I’m still sad about the pizza” is just me in general. I’m also super excited about the react channel collab!! I love that channel so much!
"It's actually called… "
tanketom isn't it actually that nicer dicer thing?
If You buy now, you‘ll get the nicer slicer FOR FREE. The ads are so intriguing lol.
Wieso Auch Immer Gebrauchsanleitung is user manual in german
I dont speak german. But I knew that because its like Dutch lol. I wanted to comment about it as well
"It's alright, it's grate!" I see you Ben.
Best dad joke of the week, Barry’s expression had me on the floor xD
I’ve watched a lot of food channels over the years, but Sorted is the only one I’ve stuck with. You boys are brilliant. ❤️
3:23 I really don't think it's called "instructions"
Oh wow, my husband and I actually have the 10-in-1 green chopper thing! We got it as a gift from his mom, but we’ve never used it. Now I kind of want to try it out.
Could someone PLEASE get James a bigger cloche for bigger items 😂
No.
who doesn't love a Sorted Sunday
I always loves James attitude towards products in this series.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve watched any sorted videos, probably about 5 years, but I am so thrilled to see James in the videos more now! Time to do some binge watching and catch up over the next couple days.
Ben using the cheese grader, "It's Great." Made me lol
oh my goodness, a gadget review video where James didn't hate on a single object!!! He usually says something lovingly pretentious and chef-y about the gadgets. I'm glad he's opening the windmills of his mind to the gadget-y air.
While grating cheese-
Ben: Its alright. Its grate.
I've just found your channel this evening and have literally smiled so much my cheeks hurt from watching the vids. They're brilliant! And Jamie's quite easy on the eyes.
This is by far my favourite chef’s review kitchen gadgets episode. All the items I actually have interest in and so glad you’s made an extra video involving the pizza maker!!
James’s reactions are so genuine and hilarious to watch 😂😂
I can't with Ben's initial reaction to the latte art thing!
I have the simple version (not as many attachments) of the green mandolin thing. It works great, and I love the hand guard. But you do have to have moderately-sized vegetables. You'll have to cut up pieces to work if they are a little wonky or bigger than usual.
I've had one of those trays for about 15 years and absolutely love it. Put an ice-cube on it and watch what happens! Always good for a laugh and a great way to win an easy bet or two.
The mini pizza oven is a source of debate in Italian households: it takes space, it needs a lot of juice and you get one small pizza at a time, so good luck having pizza night with your friends; on the other hand it bakes under and on top and pizza gets cooked super fast and bubbly as god intended. 🤔 what's you verdict?
I don't own a special board, but defrosting in a non stick pan does the same trick!
We think we need to try it out with a proper pizza first! And really?? We should test that out too!
I heard the ding of the timer. Does it turn off automatically after the timer goes off? Or will leaving it unattended cause a fire?
As an Asian, a rice cooker that turns off/goes to keep warm mode is the best thing ever, can set and forget till hungry.
So if the pizza thing actually turns off or goes to keep warm mode that would be the sell point for me.
Vixey Teh totally worth it if it keeps it warm. Love my rice cooker.
If you're in an Italian household, you know that home was built around a brick pizza oven.
Banjo Billy sure, right next to our mandolin collection.
The only song playing in my head when James and Ben spun around was "total eclipse of the heart"
Mahitha Reddy turn around bright eyes...
Haha, I have been wondering if you guys would do the defroster plate! I bought it for my boyfriend as a joke (his obsession with silicone gadgets is nearly as unhealthy as Ben's) and we were staggered to find out it actually worked! Kinda killed the joke, but a useful piece of kit in a rush.
When Scientific Spacemagic absorbs ambient Zeta-waves to defrost your frozen meat, ACTUAL works... it's kind of hilarious that it actually indeed does work when every cell of your brain is screaming 'bullshit' at it. XD
I've actually seen the 10 in 1 mandoline chopper IRL ! It really comes in handy when you have to chop a bunch of vegetables for a large group of people (though it is kinda noisy when used ^^; )
Ben was *very* quick off the mark letting everyone know he’s never used a vibrating latte art pen before. Methinks he doth protest too much.
The mandolin chopper thingie is a lifesaver if you have problems with your hands. I don't think I'd still be cooking without it.
The mandolin cutter was awesome? Having all of those tools, PLUS a storage container for them??? That's so cool! Space saver! Nice!
I feel like James is actively trying to be less grumpy :D
The metal sheet "defroster" is a heat sink. The reason that the chicken didn't defrost the first time is because there wasn't enough surface area in contact between the meat and the metal sheet. Its the same kind of thing that works to cool down the boards in your computer or the motor in your lawnmower/car. It just takes the heat and radiates it out so it can dissipate faster.
Guys, test it against a regular aluminum half sheet pan, which is what I use to defrost stuff quickly. Literally the same thing and you already own it. Any high surface area chunk of conductive material will work. For that reason I call "useless" on this one.
WanderingJim, when I first got mine we tried that. Tray was faster.
It really depends. Looking at the ridges on it I think it might have a venting system built in which would make it warm things slightly faster than a baking sheet, but it's possible its just for looks.
Elyse Hogan, that's interesting. Mine is different to theirs but has the ridges. Maybe more surface area, dissipates heat faster?
In any case, for
Hey Barbara, yeah the ridges should help to direct the heat outward or in this case inward to warm up the meat. I've never seen one of these before but that's how heat sink work in general so I think the ridges are why yours worked better than a regular baking tray when you tested it out
love how they went back to experiment and loved it
I love how happy James was about the pizza oven! Lol
I think the 10 in 1 mandolin chopper would be useful for people who either live fast lives (have little time to cook and want a quick way for a home made dinner.), people with disabilities and diseases that affect movement (example: Arthritis, Tourette's, or Parkinson's.) or beginners in cooking. A knife can be a little unwieldy when you're just learning how to chop an onion or a tomato.
A lot of "useless" kitchen tools etc. are originally designed for people with some form of limited mobility but marketed in a way that doesn't make it obvious. People who don't necessarily need them buying them as well actually makes a tremendous difference in price and availability compared to more obvious disability aids.
@@patrikmanni3559 as a chef I would still argue that a 🔪 is better
The 10-in-1 grater chopper might be grate for people with disabilities, so quite useful
That 10-in-1 thingy might be very useful for me, as a guy mostly spends time in the kitchen but doesn't have the knife skills of a chef this is outstanding.
I bought the thawing thing from a second hand store after seeing this show. It is fabulous. Absolutely works!
Did anyone else notice that amazing pun at 4:02
I didn't 🤔
As a Dad, I would never tell my children that joke. Especially the 9 year old. As egg jokes go, that was a shell of a risk...
You can use a baking sheet rather than the metal tray for the same results and not have to buy stuff. It's just due to the fact that aluminum conducts heat better than air, and you have more area to transfer the heat as well. You can also do this in the fridge to speed up thawing (safely). It also works in reverse -- if you want to freeze/chill something quickly, put it on an aluminum baking sheet, throw the sheet in the freezer; having small pieces helps too. Serious eats has a great article on this, and how to freeze soups and stuff too.
This is the only video where Ben & James took a liking/interested in all the gadgets
Who needs Buzzfeed Tasty when you have Sorted food. Was that too cheesy? I'm sorry I'm just really grateful for the existence of this channel.
I'll go home now.
Muskaan Malhotra Lmao Sorted is much better than Tasty hands down lol no competition
Love this video!! Especially the dad joke!! That defroster thingy was really impressive!! The slicer, dicer thingy, well, my aunty has one at her house and I never use it if and when I cook there so.... The pizza oven, hmm, maybe I need to see you guys use it more before I could make a decision!! :D Thanks again for brightening up my night! Now, time for bed!! Hope you guys have a good rest of the day!! :)
Please keep this series going, I love it.
"YES! It fits under the cloche!" I love Ben ahaha.
I just had to stop watching World Cup to watch this vid!
I bought the green thing three years ago at Winco. It was great and only $8.
Sorted Food noticed me. OMGoooodnesssss!
My mother had one one of those defroster trays growing up, and she loved it. Sadly we lost it after she passed away so I haven't been able to form my own opinions as an adult. However, it was really nice to take a quick trip down memory lane by revisiting it on your show.
Thank you and cheers!
I love the defrosting plate. I’ve owned one for over a decade. Always works great
This is such a good video! Totally loving the chef's reactions to the gadgets and how entertained they really are! Definitely agree with the idea of using the pizza oven more so looking forward to that!
P.S. Jamie shading Barry through the dad joke, typical. 😎
I'd love to see some of the gadgets used in an ultimate battle after they've been reviewed by the chefs! Whether you want to use the more useful gadgets, or the pointless ones.....you decide!
I ❤️ James! Love that dry humour!
I have seen many kitchen gadgets videos but the concept of knowing chefs mind on this gadget is hilarious
This is the quality entertainment I signed up for 😂❤
1: would love to see how the first gadget handles handmade pizza maybe even other foods (idk why shrip and peppers came to mind)
2: worth the money if you run a cafe definitely or do like food art in general
3: totally worth it! I haaaate defrosting in the microwave but not fond of letting it sit and defrost or in cool/warm water either.
I have owned a vegetable chopper similar to the one shown for about 20 years; in fact I'm on my 3rd one bc I've worn out the others or lost pieces when I've moved. I used one to chop 50 pounds (yes, 50 POUNDS--it was harvest time in Colorado) of onions & then dried most of them & froze the rest. For those of us who don't have a chef's precision chopping skills this tool is great for chopping onions, celery, carrots, etc. Also great for quickly cutting up stew veggies or when prepping veggies for storage (freezing/pickling/canning/drying).
Test more things that people might consider purchasing but wouldnt be sure if they'd work! Seeing that experiment with the board was quite entertaining. This was actually my favourite of the gadgets videos.
