Some mantis forms, particularly in the shaolin system, would omit the mantis Gou to emphasize the striking techniques, either as a beginners set, which this seems to be, or to cater to someone who wasn't a grappler but still wanted to learn the mantis fist. The crane beaks would then be used as a stand in. To be fair though, this is still pretty early in a set as far as I'm concerned and it may come later

No bs, but I've taken a formal class of northern seven star mantis and studied martial arts on a global scale for almost a full decade. Only time I see stuff like this, is when someone is mocking the art form, or had been mislead by someone who was mocking the art. Never a good thing to see. Mostly because it influenced by racial bias and small man syndrome

There is no one way to do mantis. Just look at the videos for the long fist mantis form 小虎燕. They are all different and that form looks much different from say White Ape Steals the Peach. It's the same for Plum Blossom Broadsword, every school teaches it differently. We have 90 forms at my 7 Star Mantis school but 小虎燕 isn't one. I wouldn't say that it isn't a mantis form, just as I wouldn't say this video isn't mantis. Empty your cup and embrace the variety of kung fu. We are a big family.

Lien Zhi Chui uses a double beak and 18 elders uses a double punch. The "structure" of long fist mantis does not contain a chaining of key words. If someone wants to put together a bunch of mantis and longfist techniques from various forms out of sequence, you shouldn't care. Si-Tai-Gung Lai said that forms aren't practical, but can teach you speed and balance. So don't worry about it, practice whatever Mantis you are learning, this won't affect that.
