  • In this video I feature the first generation D'Angelico Mini DC. I go over the features and highlight those that differ from the latest version of the model. I demonstrate all pickup positions isolated and then play the guitar with one of my backing tracks, both straight into the Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, and with some light gain from the Cornerstone Gladio.

    Amazing guitar, I have bought it today. Everything is fine, there is nothing wrong on it. For the price it's amazing.Standing you need a wide garment leather Guitar Strap and it's fine. I love the slim tapper neck. The tone is amazing with these humbuckers. I was thinking about getting a Gibson es 339 but this one is perfect for me and not expensive. Mine is black with a light sparkle , beautiful , it's called "Black Flake" . Mine has the Supro bolt buckers which are very good. The set up was ok. I have the same amp ;)

      Nice. Yes, as you saw, I thought it was a perfectly good choice with its own unmistakeable visual style. Enjoy it!

    I have an Excel DC and it is a great guitar. - I will defenitly buy 1 or 2 more. (59 with P90).
    D Angelico bought Supro so it is not surprising they use their own produced PUs and amps.

    Excellent demo, love the review and demo. Like how you mention how may need a setup and fret ends. Both easy to address. Keep it up

    Fantastic demonstration! Thanks for sharing. I thought the 2017 version of the semi hollow would've been the 1st generation. Pretty much the same specs, but with D'Angelico pickups and a rosewood fret board.

      Thanks so much.
      I believe that was the full sized DC. According to the company, the Mini was launched at NAMM 2020.

    Great playing as usual. Will you make a Gibson 60's ice tea test one day ?

      Thanks. That is one of the nicer finishes. However I did feature a very recent 60s Gibson LP in heritage cherry burst just a couple months back and it’d be identical other than the color.

    I lOve your vidIos. You make every guitar you demo sound great, but you keep me confused about which I'm going to buy next. LOL

      Thanks so much. Yeah, not easy to know what to choose. If I could afford to keep the guitars I feature there are models that stand out to me, but ultimately it's a personal choice.

    I have a love/hate relationship with Gibson 330’s. Love the sound, hate the ergo’s. The first time I picked up a 339, I fell for the smaller body. I’d like to check out a D’Angelico DC mini, but for now I‘ll settle for my modded Casino Coupe.

      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I’ve not tried the Casino Coupe, but based on my experience with all the modern Epiphones I’ve reviewed, the overall quality is probably similar. They are different animals though, the Coupe being fully hollow, whereas the DC MINI is a semi hollow. Then of course, P90s vs. humbuckers. If you saw my recent Casino feature, you’ll know I’m a fan of a fully hollow guitar with P90s. Thanks so much for watching.

      @@leonardgriffieblues5845 and thank you for your excellent videos! Sadly, I found quality control lacking on the Coupe- not up to D'Angelico standards. Still, P90 and full-hollow are important to me, and after mods, it scratched my mini-330 itch quite nicely.

      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Před 3 měsíci

      Yeah, unfortunately Epiphone China QC can be a little inconsistent. The Casino I just featured is really nice overall, but like most of them, the fret leveling, though not terrible, isn’t quite there. I’m glad you got your Coupe working for you.

    I’ve been looking at this on Sweetwater and the Eastman equivalent. Not sure which is better.

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Před 3 měsíci

      Well I'll be honest. The D'Angelico is a nice guitar and there's nothing wrong with it, but I do think the Eastman is in a different league. It costs more but it has a real handmade, pro vibe to it and it has better pickups and hardware. Thanks for watching.

      @@leonardgriffieblues5845 I concur with this assessment. I've had both and the Eastman is worth the extra $. Plus, my Mini DC had gnarly neck dive, which the Eastman doesn't have, and the Eastman comes with a nice OHSC.

    Great video as usual as well as the playing. The guitar really does not impress me.

      Thanks so much. I found it pretty similar to other guitars at that price point. Of course if the styling doesn’t grab you that’s important as well.
