- This week Ava and I build a charging station for camera gear and electronic doohickies. I finally manage to cover up the hull under the nav station and Ava builds a shelf almost all on her own.

The fenders are brilliant. You are both brilliant and your humour is infectious. Thank you..
They're called fiddles, Mads! The mooring compensator is brilliant, we have been using them for three years now and the double line restraint too, well done! Fender blanket to go with your fenders will save "smiley faces" in your paintwork, we learnt the hard way... The low level boxing under the nav. station will hopefully get covered with your flooring materials, or a piece of carpet for when your foot rubs against it! Charging dock just needs the anti-slip "bobble" matting - we use it everywhere, under kettle, in bookcases and so on, it's great for boats. Make sure you can isolate the charging dock and the DC-DC if it's required or your house batteries will be hammered when at sea. Eva, it's so nice to watch you, as well as being prettier than Mads, your "human" element is so endearing compared to Superman Mads who leaves us all with our jaws on the floor with what he achieves.. hahaaa!
Loved the camera 'shake' with Mads laughing.... priceless! 🤣
One video a week is not sufficient, we need more! 7 day wait is tooo much time 😊
200 till 100k subs! Let me be the first to congratulate you for the spiffy accomplishment Mads and Eva, well done, you 2 have restored an absolutely beautiful boat
Thank you so much 😀 I'm so excited for 100K! I never thought I'd get a play button 😀
@@SailLife Will be well deserved!
@@SailLife Mads, will you set the oven clock if you hit the 100k subs? :->
I have a feeling that they “power down/turn on” the stove all the time. Mads will probably need to cover the clock screen with something (tape?) before a bunch of ADD viewers end up pulling all their hair out.
Yes, I have been watching for months, but had not Subed.
So, I have just Subscribed, Hope you get that Play Button for Christmas :)
Takes about a week for them to check your Subs and the code to claim it. But they post them out pritty quick
So touched by Ava's offer to build shelves to help out.
How does the nicest bloke in the world finish up with the nicest girl? Well done you two. Xx

Mads, Eva, you guys have both done a fantastic job in giving Athena a new lease of life with all of her snags addressed.
Most of all though, you’ve developed and maintained a really superb quality to both your presentation and your editing skills.
I know very well how tricky filming in such a tight space can be, especially with all of that white in the background, you make it look easy….. dangit !!
I really hope that you hit the 100K with this episode, you’ve absolutely earned it.
All the best,
Cheers. 🖖😎👍🍻
You make it all look so easy Mad's; the sign of a true professional.
A kind of different video! I like your humorous co-work and the music very much… 😂😂😂
The DIY continues !!! I thought when the boat went in the water and you sailed away it might be the end, but you're projects now are even better to watch !!!
Absolutely love the switch from Ava being the camera person to worker. I think I actually heard Mads’ laughing from here in the USA.
Ava don’t be discouraged. I’m sure Mads wasn’t perfect when he first cut wood. Your skills will increase as long as you continue to keep at it. Just love and support each other. But don’t ridicule or demean each other. Especially on camera. Trust is a bond that once broken is not easily repaired. There’s no epoxy or adhesive caulk for that.
Ava, as a retired carpenter, I can tell you with great authority, it is waaaaayyyyyy harder to follow a metric line. ;-)
How why does it mKe any difference what unit was used to get a point? That makes absolutely zero sense
@@benmac940 sarcasm is also not unit dependent
@@TheFeltbegone but it is humour dependent 😉
@@benmac940 you did not get it...
I always chuckle when Mads in the intro convincingly says, "I spent the last 5 yrs doing a somewhat extensive refit!"
O'glorious, the *_'a somewhat'_* is the keyword here :)
The camera shaking because Mads was laughing was priceless. Ava, I can't cut a straight line to save my life either. A trick I learned was to clamp a straight edge to my work to use as a fence. I then measure out from the blade to the edge of the tool. Then I but the side of the tool up against the fence and cut without worrying about following the line.
yep! I started laughing at Mads camera shaking too!
Not a world shaking announcement! I like how the videos are close to real time. Adds some context. Thanks.
Another excellent video Madds & Ava, just loving how you two dovetail so well together 👌
Not surprisingly you will join the 100k club in the very near future, there is no stopping there though. 🥂👏👏🥂
Hi! I just found your channel and started from the beginning of this refit, ... Holy shit... 357 years ago.... Skipping the middle.. I don't have the stomach to watch you plan on sailing and just keep repairing more and more and more. I've seen a number of channels where sailors/DIYers get into more and more and more. I used to live aboard and am considering getting another (bigger) boat. ...Thanks to your channel and the others, I'm just going to completely gut any boat I get on day 1. Much appreciate your sense of humor and work ethic, and I'm glad you found you a girly.
That silver frame arriving from CZcams soon would match perfectly on the front of the kitchen island.
Soooo close to 100K subs. I hope you hit your milestone soon. Much deserved
Mads and Ava - those who make sawdust together - stay together. Cracking progress this week which produced a transformation effect ready for the flooring which should read like a tee shirt. I did smile when Ava was struggling with metric measurements - like many Brits of a certain age I use both systems - At carpentry scale I use imperial and at the joinery scale switch to metric. 😀👍⛵️
Seeing you two laughing together brings a happy / lovely new dynamic to the videos. ^_^
Thanks 😀 Maybe we should have Ava build more shelves in next week's video 😉
@@SailLife For sure! All of them!
:-D
@@SailLife 'Ava builds something' needs to be part of *every* episode .... I'd love to see this week's outtakes! I still have a chuckle every now and again remembering the 'cardboard box opening episode' 😂
I love the new music and new angles when filming.
Buuuut the segment with Ava building the shelf. One of this channels top moment 😁😁
I vote for more couple projects. This was very refreshing and fun to watch! Well done you two! :))
Well done. Both of you. Jumping in with both feet. Speaks highly of you both. Thumbs up.
Every time I had a charging issue I cut the card in half. Lol. I learned something new! 👍
I have been watching you for years, Mads, and loving your videos. I just tuned in again after a break because I realized you have a new crew/cast member! Nothing short of delightful. So happy for you and I think your journey (now shared) is epic.
the compensator sequence was priceless!
Like the new fast track format/edit. Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.
Mads & Ava congrats on achieving 100k subscribers! I really look forward to watching your videos each week. I have a suggestion to you about lining for your charging station. Buy some inexpensive yoga mats and cut them to fit the space. I have used them on my boats for years and they work great! A yoga mat also makes a great temporary protective covering for working on deck, the cabin floor, a table or a countertop when working with tools, etc. Stuff won't move around on you and you are virtually assured of no surface damage. Plus, when you are not using them they store flat and easy under a cushion or a mattress.
Great to see you having fun and having such a laugh doing projects together 😆😂 Thank you for another great episode 😊
You should delegate some more jobs to Ava more often, it is good to see you smile and laugh. Cheers, Richard
The LAUGHING IS PRICELESS!!!
Athena is looking great. Can’t wait to see the new floor in.
While not particularly efficient, the couple's project does make for great content! It is fun seeing you guys interact as a couple!
I cannot express how much I love your videos.
This episode made me chuckle....love all that you do. Keep up the good work Ava.
Yay, more DIY! It's like being back in Denmark
❤️ from 🇨🇦. 99.9k - way to go. Really liked today’s “couples” at work video. Good luck with the floor!
The Ava project segment was pretty funny interaction.
I was freaking out about the flashing time light on the stove so I was super glad to see you set the time. This episode was awesome and it's how I thought your travels would go. Enjoy your holiday season and we look forward to your adventures on the water.
Wavey shelves are all at sea.
🎯🎯🎯
In my humble opinion. The gizmo box, start at the bow, and ends in the transom. 😁
Love the video! Great music during the wiring of the charging station. My only wish is the videos were longer!! Keep it up.
A couples project.....love the banter that goes with this. Made me smile at the humour that flowed so subtly.
That charging station is brilliant!
A matching countertop would look super spiffy on top of the charging station perhaps with a stainless fiddle for extra space
Looks nice guys. I love how now Mads is not rushing, every video was like "Ava is comming in x days, mad dash to finish". You can take all the time you want now.
Totally agree, seeing the two of you laughing, and Ava fighting against the metric system is super refreshing. How's Ava doing with the cooking? is it easy to cook inside the boat? Cheers from Buenos Aires guys!!!!
Suggestion for the doohickey charging shelf: line the shelves with offcuts of indoor/outdoor carpet and place small stick-on hook velcro dots on the bottom of your charging doohickeys. They can be easily moved around but they won't passively slide or wander around on the shelf.
That is a great idea! I put some "loop" fabric on the dash of my airplane and put self adhesive "hook" material on pens and such and now have a handy way to keep things from sliding around and getting lost.
Mads is rocking the giggle cam effect today 😄
The best Teacher i ever see, fantastic how calmly He explain everything, really remarkable.
ps. sorry for my English.
my god, I literally laughed out loud watching you wrap the phallic mooring compensator. I will bet you a million dollars that's not what you call it off camera.
I saw the fender flex before you clarified. I thought, "Wow, That's clever!" Just had to pause and type.. Very impressed.
Ava great work and having fun together is a bonus - Regards Australia
Amazing video as always. Great work Ava.on the cabinet. Love the new grey fender and folding fender. So so so close to 100k. Big love to you all.
Just did a double-take, I'm sitting out the storm looking at Athena's transom and will be heading into it's teeth in the morning. Gotta get this cat back to the Hamble.
Wish me luck.
PS. Love all the new fenders, cutwater bumber and spring line things. You'll need them tonight.
I remembered to leave a like
The wood on the top of the fridge is gorgeous. I think you chose that flooring colour to coordinate with the two tone cabinet doors. It is really starting to look nice in there. I always p[refer the videos that aren't full of technical electronics and wiring but I'm sure there are many who prefer those videos over this type. See you next week.
7:50 "I'm gonna be going between imperial and metric measurements this whole time so you're just gonna have to follow along."
Great to hear that Eva has adapted so well to the UK. She's basically taken in the british way to measurements already. 😂
Best to refer to Imperial as “freedom units”.
Congrats on the 100k mark!!
Until next Sunday Morning,
Aloha from the Big Island 🏝of Hawaii 🏝.
Must say, one of the best episodes. Those laughs are just priceless. I think Eva should do more shelves around the boat. Hahaha
I see your both having so much fun, got to love the sailing life.
Good job Ava, you can't get better at any skill if you don't practice.
My Day is now complete. Thanks Ava and Mads
I loved this episode! Such a pleasure to watch y’all having fun 😁
Some small screws/hooks on the inside of the charging station, so you can put up a mesh to secure things from not flying out, would be nice.
Reminds me of my dad teasing me saying, "I've cut it twice and it is still too short."
I think a nice wooden counter top with rounded corners and "lips" will look spiffy on top of the charging station box to match the other counter tops and to create another convenient storage surface area!
The good news is it took maybe 3 years less time for Eva to get almost as good as you at boat work. So with her leading the way you can finish the boat sooner. Much sooner. The bad news is it means less time enjoying watching the boat work videos. It will get you out there sailing and I am very much looking forward to Eva's truly wonderful neat things she finds and shares videos. The ones she has done so far have been so much better than others I have seen. Her take on things is unique in all good ways. Happy Thanksgiving!
The fender flex is a nice addition.
Congratulations 100.000 ⛵⛵⛵
What an achievement
This one made me laugh out loud for real. LoL
Thank you for another awesome video Mads and Ava 😊👍
Mads, yes you made my day. The cabling nightmare under the nav station is great. Can't wait to see the floor next week.
Athena’s coming together nicely, Mads
Any project can be done, as long as it includes oh glorious sanding!
Stay healthy and we'll see you next week.
Ava, has a strange view of what a straight cut looks like 🤣😂. So funny seeing her trying to put the shelf in. That’s a hard IQ test 😜
Love the charging station! Great job.
Glad you guys weathered "Arwen" it was as you said, a bit windy up here in Scotland, but calm again now. Some great teamwork as always with you tag team shelf build.
Wow love the charging station your quite a craftsman with the gadgets well the whole boat great work both of you rock on brother
The joy of being a couple that works together. 🥰
Mads, just in case you have missed the obvious, Ava is a keeper. The desire to learn and grow together is a rare blessing to be cherished . By the way, Ava nice work on the shelf. I am sure you will surpass your teacher shortly as he has only five years or so of off camera experience under his belt.
P.S. Even as an American the imperial units of measure, while we as Americans may be familiar with them, are just silly.
100K soon come. Congratulations!
I cant wait for you guys to hit 100k...
Well done Sail Life, as usual!
Cheers
Has Ava adjusted to having her galley counter turned in a carpentry shop every time she turns her back? Every time a new video comes out, I look at the tape on the head and wonder if you ever plan to add a latch to that door! Great video, glad to see you enjoying each other in the midst of such work.
I ALWAYS have to measure twice, cut once. In metric I double both those metrics and cross my fingers. Using both measurement tools in one job is beyond my ability. So, congratulations Ava.
Enjoyed you video thank you, you are both methodical workers with your projects and the yacht is looking great, well done. Look forward to the next video when the flooring is installed.
Love it! LOL.. the last time my lovely wife painted a radiator, it started crying 😢 and so did I. LOL 😂
MAds. I know it’s killing you to not have a perfectly straight cut, but you know what. Ava has to learn somehow and no one is born with these skillls. Patience my young grasshopper!
Mads, I am Always amazed at how straight your cuts come out without using some sort of a guide or fence. All, and I mean all, of my freehand cuts come out worse than Ava's, no offense Ava.
Beautiful work once again. A little self stick insulation on the bottoms of the storage boxes should do the trick. See you.
What a project and what a transformation. I worry what you'll do once you get everything done:)
I loved the comedy act
I love your charging station
Sunday spiffy video many thanks and best wishes to you both
Athena is really becoming a lovely cozy home!!
I think I would have just lowered the shelf so it was below the chain plate bolt. You may want access to that bolt in the future anyway, and now you have glued a piece of wood around it. I didn't even realize that you had an imperial tape measure on board. You don't want to go through all the trouble of converting from imperial to metric, or, the next thing you know, your rover will be crashing on the surface of Mars (look it up). :)
