Mikel Arteta reacts to Arsenal being knocked out of the Champions League at the quarter final stage after defeat against Bayern Munich.
TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 Intro
00:05 Very sad and disappointed with the final result. Small margins, we conceded poor goals in the first leg. I’m proud of the players, especially in the first half. We didn’t defend well our box for the goal.
00:53 Credit to Bayern, it’s difficult to break opponents down when they play like that. We struggled more in the second half. We thank the players for the journey, it’s painful but we have to learn.
01:50 The goal put Bayern in a strong position. I saw our players willing and trying their best but we couldn’t unlock the door.
02:30 We haven’t played in the Champions League for seven years, not been in this position for 14 years. We have the capacity and the quality to reach the last four but maybe those small margins we don’t have that. It won’t make us feel better that’s for sure.
03:19 We will be close to the players, I’m so grateful to be their coach. We have to pick ourselves up, a big game on Saturday. We have to show that we are capable of turning this around.
04:03 We expected Bayern to play like that. We congratulate them, the small margins they were better than us.
04:43 There were three big moments in the first leg and they didn’t go our way. I’m maximum responsible for this.
05:10 It’s painful, it won’t go away tonight. But I can guarantee you by tomorrow we will be fully focused on Wolves and ready to go again.

The fact that Arsenal have gone from nothing to challenging for the title and CL is actually insane. Arteta is doing well.
Well said. ..
The goal is to win not to compete 😂😂
Also insane that he’s spent over £700 million and had more than 4 years as a manager
Guys you will never win anything with Arteta
@@amirbaccarithis is his 1st UCL there's no way he was going to win. Before pep winning UCL for city he was eliminated several times even in final
no coach in 14 years has done what ARTETA has done, lets appreciate his efforts.
and what did he do exactly ?
exactly, almost 5 years in charge. Spend close to a billion, and still barely anything to show for. Amazing stuff !
What has he done?
All of you, what do you know about football.
Klopp and pep done much more. Shitty arsenal
4 years took this team from 10th to competing for the Prem Title back to back and qualifying for CL quarterfinals for the first time in 14 YEARS. This is progress. We look poor today but thank Arteta for changing this club for the better.
4 years over 500 mill spend. with guys like Nelson over pepe, Nketiah over Auba we have been competing for over 15 years that can not be our title. guys he got moved on at least won him a fa cup. what has he won with his squad? coz playing nice and defending well ain't winning anything.
Then doing what his best at? Bottling it! 🤣
It took Conte12 months to win the EPL and 12 months for Tuchel to win the UCL with Chelsea
Yet here you are noshing off cone layer who spent 700m to bottle both in 4 days

Good effort Arsenal. Well done. No negative comments from me as I am a proud Arsenal fan. Better luck next time.
No negative comments from me as I'm just a worthless Jaffa with zero standards who'll be back pretending to support Liverpool again next season

Proud Arsenal fan? We've been knocked out in last 8...on the heels of loosing a double to Aston villa! Are u on drugs
As a fan I am proud of the boys for the journey this far. Well done Arteta. On the way up in the process, we will be back again.
We’re 5 years into this ‘process’ it should’ve been done now. He’s had all the money but spent it in the wrong place on Havertz instead of getting a clinical striker and we’ve bottled another amazing chance 2 seasons in a row. We won’t keep getting this chance as other teams strengthen, while favouritism and Arteta’s stubbornness holds us back.
Don't compare Arsenal with Bayern Munich.... First of all u have to appreciate Arsenal to reach at this level, remember 10-2,now....3-2... credit to Arteta where the club is right now....
Hopefully they become better next season.
Klopp won the UCL at the end of his third full season, having spent less money than Arteta.
@@jamaalokolfex4072 bro please get out of our club , we don't need people like you with zero knowledge to comment on the enormous progress made by this team
Well done Arsenal, the team is young and still leaning, we got to go through theses moments , the good times are only around the corner, we will be stronger next season, Arsenal are back amongst the best, up the gunners x
1 trophy in 5 years, with Emery's left overs. Millions spent. Keep trusting the process lads 😁😁👍👍
@@fudgetable1 Arsenal have come out of nowhere to be challenging for the league and back in the champions league you tit,
I am strangely not disappointed. We were challengers but never favorites. We deserved to be here, but I would have been surprised if we went through. When you are dealing with teams that do not make mistakes, you either have moments of quality or park the bus. It is time we dont compromise on quality by ensuring we rely on versality at best for depth but not as the core squad building. Versatility requires a compromise on quality. It's not too far off, but that next level is too high for us.
Man City also got kicked out, I believe we are currently on par with them, but they are slightly ahead.
Arteta, for the love of God, though, a clinical striker and a proper LB or left leaning CB is no longer a negotiable. We need all-out quality and no whims or compromises in all positions. We can not be relying on 'versatility', which is good enough for depth and grinding the league but not for this next phase.
We did well. Heck, we were the slightly better side in this match-up. We learn and move on.
I agree. We shouldve parked the bus properly, Mourinho style, then go to penalties or counter attack at the right moment. Martinelli cost us 2 goals. One against Porto away, other today not following his man. He's not disciplined enough for now..
lol, City got kicked out cuz they played Real.
You play with Arsenals best team in 20 years against a Bayern team who's never been this bad. That speaks volumes. Arsenal dont belong in UCL
“So proud of my players”. 3 shots in second half.. what he Means by “they stood up”
Tough game against a great team in a tough environment. A very narrow loss. The players tried but we are a still a little level below.
he means its he's fault he didn't start his best 11
You think it's easy to play against Bayern who has won multiple champions League??.... Appreciate there effort because once they were nothing but now they are challenging titles
@@flash-ss6kt what did u see in that performance to say that should be praised for the effort??
@@mr__OK first of all we didn't lose by a large margin ... Beside that single mistake Defensively we were good because they had world class player... We created chances but as we all know we lack a proper striker...don't you think to give a neck to neck competition to a club who has won multiple champions League and has world class player is a good performance by them?.... By good I don't mean they played excellent or they don't deserve criticism but atleast appreciate their performance !!
Bayern we're VERY energetic, disciplined and determined. Arsenal just gone back to being blunt in final third.
Unfortunate but April turning us into fools again.
Attacking wise we have to be real, they created the best moments
By energetic do you mean they all did a bunch of hot sauce before the game like that obvious 8-2 vs Barca which smelled like steroids?
I'm trolling obviously I don't actually think this but I'm in sore loser mode f it
Arteta needs to buy experienced players now. This team needs Kimmich, Gundogan, Lewandowski, those experienced winners to guide this squad. I dont think they are going to do it by themselves. Even each Guardiola and Mourinho team had old leaders, elders in it. Multiple ones...

How was Havertz never subbed? Partey almost won us the Emirates game with that pass to Saka but played 0 minutes it is surprising.
Agree 1000%. Everyone was talking about the penalty, no one was talking about that through ball...
Also Jorginho and Rice clearly got destroyed by Laimer and Gorezka so actually Partey>Jorginho was an obvious sub but he never plays this sub... Or Havertz, fine...

@@TrinalData😂😂 Arsenal will never win a championsleague bro Dortmund could beat Arsenal 5:1 😂😂😅😅
Saka is overrated he is not good player he misses always in big games
The one concern i have about Mikel is that he seems to be more reactive rather being proactive. Harvertz did absolutely nothing in both legs but played all 90 minutes of both legs. His favouratism towards certain players may just be his undoing.
As much as I love Mikel I’ve thought this all along he is stubborn in his decision making and almost has to be about him .. no sacrificing his ego for the result .. love the man been proven right more than wrong so still believe he is the man for the job
Don't forget Saka
Well it was a first quarter final for the manager as well. I'm sure everyone will learn from this experience.
@@incognito4778 that's the problem. He seems to also repeat same mistakes. He made his subs quite late on Saturday and did same thing tonight. Jesus should've come on for harvertz from the 1st minute of the 2nd half. And partey would have brought great passing and athleticism to the midfield.
Pep does the same thing also.. these 2 coaches are stubborn. i think they see the game in a different way
If we are all honest we knew we let ourselves down in the first leg!
We needed a lead going over to Germany but I have so much faith in this team learning from mistakes just like I do in Arteta 💯
Arteta knows we should be challenging all the time so now is the time to get a killer finisher up front 💯

Big respect to all our players. OK, Bayern's having a bad season, but it's still Bayern. I called this out before the fixture.
Musiala is just a little better than Odegard, Rice is just a little better than Goretzka but Goretzka and Laimer together destroyed Rice.
Guerrero was class, Bayern bench is more world class than ours. Fine margins but in the end it was deserved.
And don't stress about some mistakes, we were also saved by the woodwork 3 times so that evens out.
World class performance, I don't care what anyone thinks. But only 4 World class teams can be in the Semis...

We didnt loose by 5. Thats a huge improvement
You can't teach experience. Most of these Arsenal players are so young and are learning what it takes to get through big games/moments. They will get there.
Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, the 2 ronaldos, Henry, anelkas, etc...wete all 18/19 and winning trophies and ballon d'ors, so what is your point
Tbh the bookies mostly get things right..
EPL favorites are City
CL favorites were City / Real
Arsenal got to the QFs and are currently 2nd.
Arsenal don’t have WC forwards which is required to finish the big games.. also when breaking, the team don’t push forward quickly enough especially when tactically defending more deeply in the away games vs the better sides. Things to be worked on and focus for in the summer months..
Thank you for the effort my players and Mikels staff! We will keep pushing, next seasons we will be stronger. We will still push for the title, nobody knows what will happen. COYG!!!

As an Arsenal fan, I'm extremely very Touched & Greateful to have a Humble, Smart & Passionate top class young coach & manager like Mikel Arteta. Words can't describe how he's personality & mentality of bringing Arsenal all the way to top position in both PL & UCL But Actions did proved for the least results he brings where they are now.

How does this man not come under pressure? Spent huge amounts of money winning 1 trophy.
And how many years did we not spend big??? We went from nothing to challenge for CL & PL show some respect
Cause the kroenkes are in charge. As long as Arteta gets top 4, he ain't leaving. Arteta fans are proud of failure and will continue to back this manager. I am proud of the team. Boss, get us a striker in the summer, we will win this titles..
A disappointing result, but Arsenal are headed in the right direction, and no doubt will come back stronger next season.
The biggest mistake arteta made at buying or selling a player has been emi martinez. The man is the best goal keeper in the world right now. Raya is a good keeper but doesn't feel me with any confidence whatsoever . I haven't seen raya make any world class save til now and haven't seen him bailing us out at certain situations where we were almost sure to concede. I personally would bring back emi martinez and not trigger that buy option for raya. BRING EMI MARTINEZ BACK PLEASE. EMI SAID AFTER THE VILLA GAME THAT HE STILL LOVES ARSENAL
Yep cost us the goal in the first leg. Emi’s save in that last minute of the WC final alone proved he is world class whereas Raya and Ramsdale are like Laurel and Hardy in tough games 😢
No he is not, Argentina won because of Messi and Di María, Martinez is a great knockout round goalie not a league one, instead let's get Lunin.
That's facts, even Ramsdale would have made near death saves and kept us in this tie. Raya is just one of the worst keeper, can't save nothing. That even Gabriel shouted at him during the game to stay focused.
Yes! bring Emi back as No1, make Raya 2nd choice and sell Ramsdale to Newcastle. If that is possible then even with the current players Arsenal will be quiet formidable next season, in ALL competitions 😊
2:58 He has got a valid point though; Even the mighty Man City with great managers and financial power took 4 years to finally reach the semi-finals in 2015/16 then regressed until they got to the final in 2020/21. So yea, I've seen exponential progress from this team in the past two seasons and fully back Arteta to lead this team for the foreseeable future. We just need to finish the season strongly in the league, win or lose, no panic here.
Weve had a great run Arteta your the Great man great team and we are all so grateful we believe everthing your doing i no supporters will be dissapointed but we will get better and stronger next season and this season hasnt finished yet came on you Gunners city may slip up they have tonight and Pep is the best coach in the World this big clubs in Europe dont have our prem hardest in the world

Can’t wait for the upcoming transfer window! Arteta needs to stack and deepen his bench with players he trusts to be able to negate some of the fatigue the players must be feeling at this point in the season.
Arteta and arsenal deserve alot more credit for their achievements this year. We've not even finished our rebuild yet.
Mikel thanks despite those ywo setbacks.... . U have given us a reason to hope after years of turmoil. Hope they keep u for long. Trophies are coming.....Rome was not built in a day
But some simple bits of advice.
1. Get a natural left back.... If possible go for Hato from Ajax,
2. Rice needs support in midfield- Fofana from Monaco is a smart option
3. We need a world class striker.Gyokeres is good despite the price tag.
BUT KINDLY DONT BRING ANOTHER AVERAGE PLAYER....
One of the worst performances I ve seen from the team. I dont even know what happened. No movement in the attack, no energy, no dribblings. A terrible night.

i appreciate exactly what arteta has done for the club to this far. but he doesn't have the know how to win us titles and thats the main goal for everyone the club the fans and the players as well .Winning a Title is what we want.
I would be more worried about the inconsistency of Gabi and Saka this season than getting a striker this summer.
We need to get rid of Nketiah, Nelson, Emile, Cedric and Zinchenko and bring in quality. Bring in competition for Saka - I’d love it if we can bring in Sane or Raphinha. Also bring in a top striker and left-back and we will be dominating next season iA
I honestly don’t think we’ll win anything win this guy!! He’s great but we’re only stepping stone for his career!! 🤦♂️
With such solid performance and not many injuries this season Arsenal should win something at least. Next season there will be more injuries and other clubs already know your capability.
The fact that i love Arteta and wanting the board to keep him still; i will be honest here to say he still lack that experience of finishing a season properly. I believe the players on the pitch have grown and gotten the experience to handle pressure, but he Arteta is the one lacking that experience still and I'm hoping last season and this season experience will help him overcome this challenge mentally.
He starts the season well; keep doing well in the middle of the season, but eventually goes out of ideas when it comes to few games remaining mostly when the team is close to achieving something great. I believe when too many expectations from the fans and others saying arsenal will win it this time; thats when Arteta gets confused and start thinking how am i going to handle this to win this for sure? his poor decisions in the past 3 games clearly demonstrate that.
This's one of the reason i have really never bought into the claimed that the injury of Saliba last season led us to loosing the league. I believe some experience managers would have managed to secure that 8 points lead and win the trophy despite saliba's injury. but it's what it is, he's still learning and hopefully somedays he will get his hand on one of those big trophies.
Great performance after been out of this competition for a long time.
So proud to be a gooner, and so thankful for all the good memories. Lot more to come, for several years. We are progressing well! Trust the process, support the team and players, and stand by the coach!!

His parents must be so proud..
Next step of evolution for Arteta & Arsenal-
1) If you dont trust your squad players, sell them. First XI dead on their feet every April.
2) Sign serious attackers and a difference maker
3) Too focused on avoiding conceding (which is understandable) but time to build off that foundation next year
We've scored more goals then everyone else haven't we?
@@SuperKeown I don't think Havertz & Jesus are the answer against the harder opponents. I'm hoping Arteta will be clinical this window. He clearly doesn't trust half the squad (Nelson, Ramsdale, Smith Rowe, Nketiah, Partey) and so Id like to see him sell them off and get players he trusts to give minutes to. And a couple of gamechangers.
Saka Rice Gabriel Saliba White are absolutely dead on their feet and we have been lucky to have them all fit for almost the whole season. I'm keen to see his evolution on using a proper squad next year. Every year he has improved noticeably. Clubs like Bayern are holding onto Coman, Gnabry, Muller, Tel, Sane, Musiala as attacking options for good reason. They know what it takes to go deep into comps in this part of the year. We need a squad we can trust, not just use when the #1 player is injured.
I found our attacks against the better sides to be really tame and without any jeopardy to the opponent. We need a gamechanger or two who just picks up the ball and drives into their defence. Saka is being fully marked and kicked out of games as he's the only current one we have.
Next step of evolution for Arteta & Arsenal
Resign
The End
Appreciate all the positive comments on this thread. Arteta has done an immense job so far. First CL campaign for the team and manager, making the quarterfinals and pushing Bayern (a team with strong European pedigree) all the way shows how much this team has grown and it should be commended. I find it contradicting of fans who say we got knocked out by a supposedly weak Bayern but then they go on to say Bayern are a different beast in the CL due to their seasoned experience. As soon as we got knocked out, we're now childishly labelled as "bottlers". We lost 1 game this calender year against Villa, then the same people (even many goners) instantly said the same thing. Total nonsensical logic! City also got knocked out of the CL, but it's different treatment for them by these people. Regardless of their recent trophies, the fact remains that they got knocked out as Arsenal did.
We've pushed Liverpool and City deep into the season in the EPL title race. These 2 teams have been up there for the past 7yrs. With another season of valuable experience, this team is only going to get stronger as we acquire more quality players and mature. It comes down to time and our time is nigh. Stay strong, keep the belief!
It’s now 2 games WITHOUT a goal and 3 in total without a win. If we don’t beat Wolves nor score vs them,it’s officially back to where we were in December before Dubai.
We didn't lose the tie today. We lost it at home giving away 2 poor goals and failing to kill the game in the first half. It's clear we need to sign a left sided 8 to help Rice cover ground. He was gassed 70 minutes in and we have no one to bring on to help. Also need a striker. Do we honestly think Kai and Jesus are good enough to win us titles?
The game showed how poor we are...we need to sign good wingers and proper 9 next season

We needed partey when jesus and trossard came on but Arteta left him out
U brought our hopes so high only to smash it down like this. We will capitulate some more against wolves
If they sack Arteta it will be the biggest mistake in the history of this club. Only rivals and plastic fans are saying it, the job he has done in such a short time is amazing. We've improved every season so keep the faith and we go again next year
For smaller clubs like Arsenal, they created the conference league
Arteta, the lads and us fans are disappointed but we have to change mindset and believe we can on the field. I understand the pressure on top is scary but we don't have a choice we must improve, waste no chance and take our position on the pinnacle.
Mikel is doing a good job and he’s learning. Let’s keep trying and give him more time. Next season is a decider for him though
RESPECT TO ARTETA
These games need special moments especially when a team plays is predictable which we were today ...Bayern was totally prepared to nullify us ...we need to be more flexible in our formations and personnel going forward to upset out opponent's gameplan.
Arsenal and Mikel Arteta will surely have a lot of regrets about tonight... they never looked like they were going to advance. Bayern didn't look rattled all night! 😐
Why arteta dont say we are not capable of creating something cause my players are baby they didnt do nothing, and he said by small margins, shame to lose against this bayern team
For us to have advanced to this level is credit worth noting, whether you like it or not
THIS is Arteta's level: somewhat steady but never full throttle. I wonder if this quarter-finals will be Mikel's biggest achievement as Arsenal manager when he is eventually dismissed

We need to start signing special players now, need individual brilliance at times, i cant fault our defenes, Martenelli was caught sleeping but to win such games you need a player like an Isak who can produce a moment of magic in a game where a team performance is not cutting it
My biggest mistake in my life was, supporting this club 25 years every year heart broken sad angry
I am proud of my team. Next year we go again. Add new players, sell deadwood.
You will never win UCL 😂😂
@@kisokkumar Go watch the IPL, tuktuk.
Is it because they participated into today’s game? Don’t forget how reach in this stage , just with Penalties. The coach arrogant enough not accept his mistakes

@@kisokkumar I'm a Leverkusen fan, mate. Have a good day watching cricket.
Coyg. Arsenal fans need to calm down. We v come far. Proud of the team. Proud of Arteta. We get few more pieces and we good. Especially a deadly striker and midfielder.
That corner right at the end… 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏼♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏿♂️
someone please ask Arteta why he never takes off Havertz...he was non existent today, again. The whole second half was bad but after he took off Jorginho and put Havertz in midfield we looked awful. we couldn't progress the ball. Why isn't Partey coming on ? it's just ridiculous that he keeps insisting with this Havertz thing in midfield
If we want to constantly in the champions league, we need to think as one, as a fan, as a club.
I think arteta & team did the best, but some has to go or maybe we need more option (players).
Press: why do you let your players run themselves to the ground during the course of the season. Cos it seems it's taking a physical toll on them
Arteta: To be the best , you have to get used to playing over 60 games in a season and every 3 days
It didn't happen this time.
Better luck next time.
Let's keep supporting the boys, they need us even more now.

I still cant let go of the fact martinelli ran through all Bayern defenders and just couldn't get the shot off he should have hit it after the lay off hope for a deflection past neuer
Just buy a proper striker, and sell nketiah, zinchenko and buy another Saka to challenge that world class boy..
