  • The replacement washer is just as bad as the first one! Still not pleased!!!! I purchased the GE Model GTW330ASK4WW Washing Machine this month. This review shows my first uses with the replacement machine. The first machine made such a racket during the wash cycle that I called Lowe's to check it. When the service people came out to inspect the washing machine, they told me it was defective and that I needed a swap out. Nine days later, Lowe's delivered a second machine from the same line and model number. This video shows that the second washing machine appears to suffer from the same problems. I’m with you, the old whirlpool/Kenmore units were pretty good and easy to work on. I’m a handyman and I do work on a lot of things. Here’s my advice-
Washing machines and dryers are something you’re going to need all of your life unless you plan to do them
I elected on my next purchase to buy laundry mat grade washer, and dryer
Or even buy a used laundry mat washer and dryer they are quicker. They work well and they are bulletproof.
    Here is my past story
I had always had Kenmore Whirlpool washers and dryers the old-fashioned style and they were always reliable and easy to work on
The residential line of front loaders came out. I bought a pair of LG.
They were absolutely wonderful they had a 10 year warranty and they lasted 10 years. They didn’t use very much electricity or water and they did a decent job and were relatively quiet
At 10 years, I begin to have problems with the dryer in the washer so after trying to fix them and them not lasting much longer plus they were hard to work on a set
So this time I bought Samsung front loader residential line, the washer is about the same same as the LG as far as the way it works and operates however, the dryer after it’s done the clothes continues to run and operate with all the lights off, I was told it’s a defective relay in the board and they want $300 to replace this at expense still under warranty
If you’re buying residential, Bosch is the way to go !
But I would all always go commercial laundromat quality

You're 100% correct. GE should be ashamed to sell this product but they obviously are not because 3 years later the product hasn't improved one bit. Truly amazing that something like this could go through an entire design and QA process and this is what they have as a finished product? I just bought the same machine under the Hotpoint badge. Same piece of junk. My laundry area is on the second floor and you can hear the dying animal noise all over the house which is a total non-starter. And it just doesn't clean well, which is the whole point of a washing machine. I'm sending it back and replacing it with a Maytag commercial washer.

    Hi Kim,
I bought the 2019 version of your washer and the matching dryer; it was delivered about two weeks ago. My Samsung dryer drum “only seven years old” split. I decided to replace both the washer and dryer-the Samsung set put me back nearly $2,000.00 USD., in 2013. I must say I am very impressed with this GE washer; it cleans far better than my high-end Samsung and the matching dryer dries in half the time. It used to take an entire day to do all of my clothes and bedding, now it’s complete in an afternoon-and the items come much cleaner. In truth, the machine is a little louder, but it doesn’t bother me. I have a four-foot-long velvet finish pillow, the Samsung could never get clean, now it is shining like brand new. I must say it’s been over a decade since I have had an agitator, and I love it. In your video, you questioned where the detergent went; I have wondered the same thing too. Occasionally, my detergent vanishes. I think it runs under the agitator. I enjoyed watching your review, and I am sorry your machine doesn’t live up to your expectations.
    p.s.
I find that pushing the start/pause button works to pause without needing to hold it for any period of time.

I own this machine as well and it’s actually pretty good at cleaning clothes. Regarding detergent, I’ve noticed that (at least for me) rarely does it end up below the agitator. Found this out when I pulled out the softener dispenser and looked inside the agitator. 90% of the time we use powder detergent so maybe that’s why it doesn’t go below the agitator. Ever since I found that out, I let the washer fill up a bit before adding detergent.

You have to put ur water on bulk to have enough water to wash ur clothes, a hand full of water do not clean ur clothes. And I'm stuck with it. Please people Don't buy this GE washer. The man that came out yesterday heard it was Loud so he thought I needed a HUB and left and said they would call me when the part came in. He came right and said this machine doesn't have a HUB, so he look under it and said their was a lose nut on the transmission shaft. Still loud. It will begin to start walking forward within 3 years of ownership, after this model and 2 other cheap brands I did the research and saw a lot of comments saying the Commercial/Residential line of Maytag (about a $1000 US) beware of the cheaper digital model, the Commercial one is from the same line as the laundry place without the extra cost of the coin box, very solid,... So far so good, easy analog dials with extra rinse and presoak options,, almost old-school but strong motor and belt and gives you a true half and full tub of water instead of the High Efficiency models Congress passed a law some years ago restricting how much water went into the wash, usually the top stuff felt dry still, the one you reviewed here failed us badly as with several brands before, so the Commercial Maytag model is coming out on top even over those front loading GE etc models at twice the cost at least.

The laundry room has limited space so my husband and I went to Lowe's and purchased a GE model GTW465ASNWW washing machine along with a dryer GE model GTD42EASJWW. I don't mind the noise. You can't hear it when the door is closed. Thank goodness for that, my husband works at night and sleeps during the day. I only 2 issues…
    1. It has five knobs, none of which do what I want (LOL). I want is to skip to the rinse cycle. Not possible
    2. For some reason I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can’t smell the fabric softener or the lovely smelling Downy Unstoppables after the wash is done. My clothes seem to come out smelling like that new washing machine smell. Yuck!

Basically , the EPA has an obsession with energy and water efficiency. Since 1996, the EPA has continually increased energy and water efficiency standards for appliances and manufacturers have to meet those standards. The result : Every appliance you shop for in America is designed primarily to use less energy and less water , even if that means compromising performance.

EXACTLY....people need to learn to WAIT. I have a part time cleaning business, we do a lot of Air B&B's and corporate condo cleanings, somehow the owners and clients are always calling us about the washing machines....usually inpatient, middle age to older white women in a frenzy asking why the machine is not working, 9/10 times it's because they start hitting buttons or trying to change cycles thus causing the sensors to start timing in and turning off the interface for a minute while it starts to program. . I tell them to "hit the start button once...and WAIT 5 minutes". Almost ALWAYS it goes back on starting whatever cycle is programmed.

This machine is a complicated mess, the clothes at times comes out with small dry areas that look like never made contact with water. Not to mention..there’s a trouble shooting code sheet taped under inside side panel with which to help one determine what’s causing issues that will arise, in our case it stopped spinning, because the lid lock broke…again a CZcams clip saved the day.

Just like you, we ended up with this machine, if we don't start the water add soap, and stir, we get soap residue on the bottom clothes.

They all sound like this unless you splurge for the $700 plus machines. You are correct about the belt driven machines. I do know that direct drive is more sturdy and expensive, but belt driven ones can be easily fixed for cheaper, thus overall can last longer if you are willing to repair it if that goes out. Anyway, you get what you pay for, all machines now are built to last 3-5 years....and unless you pay about $300 more, you get a little more noise. I just bought a GW 4.5 Cu ft, it's probably louder than this one, but who cares! it makes about the same noise as my dishwasher in my kitchen. Two loads a week comes out to about two hours where I have to deal with this noise. Seriously not an issue to me.

It's year 2023 and we just bought one of these GE washer machine new from home depot store and that loud noise is horrible, I thought the machine was defective, turns out it's made that way. Older machines don't make that noise, so why does this machine have too. Sounds like a distorted Duck quack. 😬 I have looked up other washer machine and it's as someone commented here in the comments 'that other more expensive washer machines are loud too' the only way too solve such a noise problem would be for these washer machine makers to seal in the loud areas of the washer, I just don't understand why older washer machine gears and clutches don't make such a loud agitating noise, instead older washer machine have a harmonious sound that can put you to sleep. However, the job is getting done, I guess that is what matters but it would be nice if the job can get done and not be loud as well. I just left it for a few minutes to get some more clothes, came back, the machine decided to empty out all the water and detergent I had put in, so now I lost detergent, looks like GE is in the detergent business as well. The cycles don't make sense, I read the entire instruction manual, it never says what HEAVY, MEDIUM and LIGHT does, the water temperatures are ridiculous, the water that comes out to fill the tub is never what you select, yes, my HOT and COLD water hoses are properly connected, I double checked them. There is no place to put in the fabric softener. Yes, you heard that right, THERE IS NO FABRIC SOFTENER CUP. So you have to stand in front of the machine and wait... and wait.... and wait... GE should just get out of the appliance business, I'm sure Apple or Toyota would make a much better and more logical washing machine. Machine is pretty quiet, but then again, if you're listening for the water sound so you can run back to put in the fabric softener, the quietness isn't helpful. If this was my property I'd return this piece of shit right back to wherever it came from.

I just got the 4.5 Cu ft. HE model, It DOES have Deep Fill options for the Wash cycle AS WELL as the rinse. This is one is 3.8 Cu ft, if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, mine works fine, so far, if you are doing large loads you need to use Deep Fill options.... for this model that would be the Depp Fill rinse. I have not had any issues with mine. People complain about the noise, REALLY? Everything is noise in my house, kids, dog, Wife etc. I do laundry on Saturdays, I can get almost everyone's laundry done in a couple loads (4.5 CU ft!!!), I set the first load, shut laundry door, LEAVE go to the corner store for a 6-pack, come back, change out to dryer, put in new load, go to porch and drink beer with dog until load finishes, I really don't get bothered with the noise once I shut laundry door. Even if I'm in the kitchen ( next to laundry room) with wife on phone, tv on and teenage daughter face-timing....I seriously do not even HEAR this machine. Are you people trying to sleep while you run loads of laundry? LMFAO. Anyway, it does seem weird the lights and cycle goes dormant. But,,,,if you have a little patience and WAIT, it may click back on as they have timers and sensors that need a couple minutes if it thinks you changed cycles. Hitting buttons while it's sensing will only make matters worse. Patience!

@@KimTownsel Thanks. I found a new one with a dent for almost half price! TC-5.
Since you were so generous to share your experience, I am happy to reciprocate and share a bunch of tips I just heard directly from SQ. They welcome us to CALL them with the serial number on any machine you want to buy (e.g., used or scratch/dent.) They will quickly confirm the history over the phone e.g., when it was made and how much warranty is left. The one I am considering was made this year- still has a full 5 years warranty left or 4.5- not sure when the warranty kicks in but probably when I register it or buy it.
Downsides of the TC-5. The load size is smaller and it will be louder- 62dB's vs. 42dB's on the TR series (do not get TR). We are on a 2nd floor (condo) but we need a quality top loader (less smelly.) I do not want to deal with what you went through so I want to get this one- or a new one in the box if this one does not work out.
The SQ has a quality porcelain coated, metal outer tub (collects spin water.) Almost all washers I found including the Maytag Commercial us a cheap plastic tub that grows mold easier. It is also why this SQ is a tank and weighs nearly 200lbs. It does have a Prop65 warning I am not super happy about but I think it will be ok- they said it's inside some wiring that we will never come in contact with anyway. Let's hope so!
SQ also said to use White Vinegar (add inside the top of agitator) to soften cloths- not fabric softener (gets sticky and contributes to future mold- the issue we are having now big time on our front loader despite cleaning all we can.) Vinegar also really helps to keep the machine clean. She said less is more- regarding soap and vinegar.
Also, if you are coming from a HE machine, run the first wash of any cloths with NO soap. The machine will extract out of your cloths what was not extracted with the HE machine. This is why new customers complain their SQ machines are foaming over the water outlet with soap. They add too much soap and plus their cloths still have soap stuck inside the cloths. All great tips!
Now, the only hassle is getting it delivered here and lugging it up stairs. They are over an hour away and want $200. I would rather not go get it but will if needed. Saving nearly $500 on a new machine that has never even been plugged in!

I would not recommend it to anyone. I like to add water and agitate for a little while to mix my detergent then put in my clothes then have it fill the rest of the way. I don’t think that’s a possibility with this washer. Thank you so much for putting out this video.

always use deep rince to get a good rince. Because washers nowadays do spray rinses on default instead of filling up with water and agitating like the old matchines.

@@KimTownsel You should try removing the lid switch and placing it in the slot. So that you could see whats really going on when the matchine is operating. You as the owner and user of the washing matchine should know how the matchine really operates. The lid switch could be removed with just a philips screw driver to unscrew the screws that hold it in place. You should make a video about it

i honestly love this machine. i always keep it on precise fill so i know there will be enough water. but is there a cleaning cycle? i just wanna use the tablets to deep clean it. anyone have any tips?

    • @KimTownsel
      @KimTownsel  Před 2 lety

A washing machine should be self-cleaning. Take your advice and put it on precise fill, add detergent, and start. Oh, snap. That won't add any water, right?

I am not sure. Check other viewers comments on this video and the video of the first one of these models I purchased. Many people gave advice, some good; some bad. Some folks just don't know how to wash clothes, either. LOL.

Yes, I tried that. Another reason why such technology is not needed for simple appliances.

This washer washes clothes for 40 mins, is there a short wash cycle? That is just washing cycle only, that's not counting the spin cycles or the rinse cycle. Which selection would be a short cycle?

Mine shows a "Speed Wash" option but I have never used it. Maybe other viewers who have will provide information.

I’ve had one just a little bit different model number for two years works fine. Sure it makes a little weird noises that’s because they make them out of light stainless steel and mostly plastic that’s why they don’t way any thing. Sure I probably won’t last as long is an old Maytag Had

2nd load in just installed machine filled for rinse & drained over & over & over & over 5+ times at least an hour. Repairman replaced broken part
THIS IS A NEW MACHINE. So next day the machine FAILED to fill for rinse cycle…..instead it started spinning for 2 mins. Then…spin light lit up & spun 20 mins
So I had to rewash clothes w/o detergent to get soap out
HOME DEPOT & GE informed me they can’t replace machine unless I have to have machine repaired 3x for same issue. Really???
The preferred brands I really wanted were out of stock for possibly months!

Kim you are looking at in contrast to old school washers. These new machines have been tried and tested. They save water. You dont have to soak clothes with mega gallons in order the wash them good. You saturate them and let them move and the filth is loosened up. The rinse cycle does get them really wet to wash out the filth but to saturate the load in lower levels of water is a cheaper way to get them clean like Great Grand Ma used too. Sure lots of water cleanses but its not needed.

    • @KimTownsel
      @KimTownsel  Před 5 lety

I understand about the less water but the machine has other features that are subpar. It is too noisy, it takes too long to wash, the technological features don't allow changes for the cycle, and it gets stuck on a cycle and will not let you change your mind. There is more technological progress than merely saving water.

Back in the day a washer and dryer would last 20 to 30 years. In an average persons life you would have to buy two or three sets. Now they last five to ten years., So you will have to buy five to eight sets. What I hear is speed queen last around 25years. The Maytag commercial is good. Either one will cost you plenty. Somewhere between 1100.00 to 1400.00 just for the washer.

Speed Queen is the highest rated but also one of the most expensive. I think they come with a 10 yr warranty but I don't want to spend $1400 for washing machine that I will likely leave in my condo when I sell it.

Mmine washer is almost identical to yours, my model number is a GTW330 Wask3ww. My washer is also noisey, alot. When it's about to spin it goes out of whack, u balance?, plus it's tearing everyone's clothes. 👖👚👗👙🩳🩲👕👔It not in my budget to replace at the moment. But I do wash it tub all in then I start a cycle by it's self. Still sick washer. 🤯😠🙏

I have this same machine and I hate it. Mine will start to agitate for about 4 seconds then stop and do nothing for some reason. Then I put it on the speed wash just so I can spin the water out. I have intermittent problems where at times it will start to wash or spin and just suddenly stop after a few seconds. It's extremely noisy on wash and when it goes to spin it sounds like Boeing 737 rumbling down the runway. I would not recommend this machine either but if you get one just be sure that you have a basement, enclosed laundry room , or porch to put it on because it is so loud. Reading and executing the diagnostic codes are also very confusing. I am going to replace it with a much quieter one because i live in a condo where my laundry room is just off the kitchen. I've very good service with GE in the past but this thing has sent me looking at other brands. One positive thing I can say is that it does a good job of cleaning the clothes.
