  • Ken (subscriber) made the decision to protect the drive train of his lifted 2017 Ram 1500 w/ 37" tires. He took his Ram to Chester Country Transmissions for a 3.92 gear swap. Steve turns the video over to Andy & Pete to film the install & unboxing. As always they provide tips & detailed info along the way. The install comes to an abrupt end after discovering a serious problem.

I have stock 3.92 with 37's. It's not enough. You still have problems on the hwy as the truck will not want to go to 8th gear. And of course the loss of torque from stock tire dia sucks! You can go to 4.56 in front and rear! For the rear I'm installing a TruTrac LSD. For this you need a drivers side axle to be installed on to passenger side. 4.56 will fit in the front diff! Yes you need to install a new carrier as the ring is welded to the existing. The only major problem is you need to have a custom pinion made and that's definitely doable!

    • @BEASTProjects

Word of advice for any that has had a wobble in the front end of a ram, that will never go away, different wheels and tires, shocks, alignments and Shocks, front hub assembly…
I bought my 2014 with 38k on it and cause that o ring was missing, the stub shafts and cv axles were rusted just enough… Multiple shops and warranties claims nobody could ever figure it out even when I ask about those, they said no they are good.
Well I finally at 176k decided to just replace them,it turned into me replacing everything. “since I was in there” Well when trying all the methods of getting the cv shafts of the dif.. I had to remove the part of the diff that the shafts connect to cause the passenger side was seized on! Vise hammer and flat punchs it would not come off… Had to soak it overnight, then come back with a bigger hammer and got it off..
Yup both shafts were eaten away from rust causing just a little bit of tolerance issues. I had to pull that whole part apart to replace the passenger side input shaft So I just replaced everything else in there at the same time… For the first time ever I have owned this truck it rides smooth, no more center counsel shake
