- Geologist Ian Plimer has slammed the environmental branch of government for their consideration of Glencore’s plan.
Glencore plan to inject liquefied Carbon Dioxide into Australia’s largest groundwater basin - The Great Artesian Basin.
There are concerns about the effects on Australia’s major freshwater source.
“No one dawned on the fact that we could have a massive phreatic explosion of carbon dioxide,” Mr Plimer told Sky News Australia.
“What is Tanya Plibersek’s department doing?
“Why do we have so many bureaucrats not looking at the bleeding obvious?”

5.1 atm, or about 5168 hPa (millibars, if you prefer). It can only occur within the range 31.1 deg C and - 56.6 deg C, so "good luck" to Glencore trying to sort that out.
Dont forget that the acid will also dissolve limestone making the water unfit for use, and the giant sinkholes that will result over time.
Tanya will escape the country by the time that happens and people will need to fix the problem

Thank you for bringing this idea of Glencore to our attention. Using critical thinking and common sense, this dangerous idea should not be allowed to go ahead. It just shows how much money these companies must offer government departments to pass such stupidity and life threatening grants to unsafe practices.
It will also make the water extremely corrosively acidic.
Bowen doesn’t understand that nuclear (or nuculer as he keeps saying) is an industry, not just for power production. Labor turn their backs on Australian industry.
The water from the GAB is the main drinking water for many towns in Queensland, NSW and the NT, including my town of Millmerran, 2.5 hours from Brisbane. The government is putting all of our lives at risk should they continue with this madness

At temperatures grater than 31 degrees C carbon dioxide can not exist as a liquid it turns into a super critical fluid and the pressure goes through the roof
last time I check Queensland gets warmer than 31 degrees C by by pipeline or tanker
