- How to replace the molding/Trim on the roof of a 99 Ford Ranger.
Parts Purchased:
XL5z-1051728-APTM
XL5z-1051729-APTM
If you search for the part it will pull up "moulding roof side" and "molding body side". From what I found most of them seem to be the same. Just look for the part number.
Tools:
3/8-in Ratchet
3/8-in extension 6-inch preferable
15mm socket
trim/molding removal tool (www.harborfrei...)
This video uses these sounds from freesound:
"Shaking spray box and spraying" by magnus589 ( freesound.org/... )
"Bamboo Swing, B19.wav" by InspectorJ (freesound.org/...)
Thank you for the nice clear video. I need to do mine. A body she did mine and they rotted.
Thank you so much for this. Had no idea where to start on my husband's Ranger until I found this video.
This video is going to save me a lot of time and trouble when I do my Ranger. Thanks man.
Hope you got it done! I haven't been active the past 9 months and recently came to see all these likes and comments. I do have more footage of work I've done on the ranger so I may be posting soon due to your positive support. THANKS AGAIN!
This worked on a old 2002 Ranger, Jah Bless ya. Made the job relatively easy.
Many Thanks!!!!
Thanks Miko. I have an F250 with the same problem and this is the only video I have found on how to replace these pieces of molding.
You're welcome Jose! I couldn't find anything about this either so I figured it would help others out. Thanks for watchin'!
Ditto. 2002 F250...luckily the trim just popped off in my hand instead of blowing off on the road to be lost. Gonna try to reattach it with autobody quality products, but if that doesn't work, Miko taught me how to replace it.
Same. F350. I didn't think I would find a video
Dustin Lambert I have a 2013 F250 but facing issues with removing the nuts inside the interior panel, any tips?
Geoff Rundlett I have a 2013 F250 and I’m having issues removing nuts inside the panel, any tips?
We could not have replaced the two roof moldings on my Ranger without this video. Thank you so much! Please keep the videos coming. I want my 2000 Ford Ranger to be the classic truck I always wanted...by way of maintenance and not complete overhaul.
Great help thanks man! Mine blew off the truck, LOL.
Just a quick tip stick the bottom of the molding in first so you can get the end under rear window molding. Did mine yesterday. Also you may want to add some rtv to holes.
You just saved me a ton of extra work. Thank you!
Thank you! I hope you are able to complete the job! I haven't been active the past 9 months and recently came to see all these likes and comments. I do have more footage of work I've done on the ranger so I may be posting soon due to your positive support. THANKS AGAIN!
@@MikoRiko I bought a 2001 Ranger 2 years ago and love my truck. I go to a mechanic for the tough stuff but you showing me (step by step) how to make repairs that are pretty simple (once someone explains/demonstrates/coaches)is saving me a lot of money. Saving money is good.
Your video saved me a lot of time. Time is more valuable than money.
Keep the videos coming!
So THAT'S how they connect. Thank you for making this video.
Thanks for the video. The pacing, music, and and explanation are perfect. Very easy to follow.

I was doing this on a 2008 f250 and it doesn't have visible pushpins that hold the trim on. I couldn't find anything about it on line so I figured they were built in but didn't know for sure but it all worked out great, Thanks again.
Thanks for this video, I got a leaking roof and hoping that this is what the cause is on my 05'.
You did a great job making this useful video. Every part of it was completely clear. Thanks.
thanks for making this video, I feel confident that I can do this now!

You’re a gem, thanks for putting this up. I’m pretty sure one of mine is letting water into the cab, it’s either that or the top of the rear window butyl seal failing. Gonna seal both of them.
GREAT how to video!
I'm sorry your drivers side molding waited until after you repainted the truck, to pop off.
Nice job Miko. Make a video for replacing the rear window seal.
Great video for such a small job. I was just going to glue it back with silicone but now I have the motivation to work on this and put back the plastic cover for the sit belt sliding that I forgot when I redid the headliner in the cabin... 4 years ago🙂
Then.... after 8 months I finally did it... Thank you for telling the screws sizes... and fuck the aftermarket supplier who cannot use the same nuts measurements, so kiddos, save the original nuts and reuse.
All is good now. Thanks again Miko.
Great vid! Thank you!
Great video! I'm going to replace mine on my 98 ranger, the driver side looks old and brittle. I also suspect that's where I'm getting a leak and causing my headliner to feel damp when it rains on the driver side.
The leak is probably your brake light. The gasket is notorious for failing.
Thanks I couldn't find either. Thanks again so right on.
Thanks Miko Riko! Very helpful.
Thanks man, both mine have fallen off. 2nd one today. Thanks for the info
Thanks just the information that I was needing. But the parts are not cheap.
Very useful. After removing a fender on Mom's Malibu to change a lightbulb, this will be a breeze.😝
About to do this and sooooo glad you had this video!!
Just what I was looking for. Thanks.
Hope it helped! I haven't been active the past 9 months and recently came to see all these likes and comments. I do have more footage of work I've done on the ranger so I may be posting soon due to your positive support. THANKS AGAIN!
Just the video I needed. Thanks
Top Tip. Get a washer with a diameter of .950" and an inside diameter of .400". The washer I had had a thickness of .060" Cut a notch in the washer so it looks like the letter 'C'. The notch should be about .350" wide. Once you raise those plastic push pins high enough, slip that washer in there and use it to leverage on instead of the plastic head.
Nice job and details, I am doing my tomorrow, Olson paint color.

Did you have to force the bolts into the holes, it seems that my parts are not the right size. But Ive been assured that they are. They look to be short.....about half an inch. Thanks Ken
July 21st 2022 somebody stollen my roof molding off my 98 ranger . Unbelievable ! I looked on Amazon thinking they'd be a cheap replacement wrong " they want $55.99 a piece for them.
Thank you. Exactly what I needed. One question, why didn't you paint those before installing? My truck is white, so I will paint mine before installing and give them a day or 2 to dry.
Besides the looks, was there anything being brought about by the mouldings being gone? Was wondering if this is why I may have leaks when it rains. And before anyone chimes in with "check your brake light, they always leak", I have already handled that part of it.
Thanks!
I was going to ask the same, I also have a bit of a leak and this is also missing on my truck.
I'd also like to add that if you order these parts directly from Ford, you will receive a message that they do not fit your vehicle. They won't fit an extended or sport cab, but they will fit any regular Ranger built between 1998-2011.
Any advice for those interior pins? I have been trying desperately to get them to come out all the way but they all get stuck, unfortunately one of them snapped in half. The first one at the top actually came out but the white part lost one of its prongs.Had to take a break because they irritated me so much. Also do you happen to know where to find more 😂?
Nice!!
THANKS for your comment! I haven't been active the past 9 months and recently came to see all these likes and comments. I do have more footage of work I've done on the ranger so I may be posting soon due to your positive support. THANKS AGAIN!
Wonderfull but i need the part number for a white one
I have the trim piece it fell off when I was at safe lite what adhesive would be best to put the original piece back on to the grommets in the roof channel?
Would this also work on a 98 mazda b2500?
Could you let me know the ford part number? Thanks!
Why do you look like Pedro bro lol good video tho 🤘
