That's classic apple saying a big f*ck you to developers.
I wonder whose fault it is...
couldn't blame anyone but Apple tbh
No, Apple is the good guy here. The App Store has rules that makes software secure and consistent in their UI. Now, the EU, an organisation with NO track record of competence, and not legally elected, decides that Apple will have to comply to the whining of a few people because MUH FREEDOM.
EU should just go 'ok' and cease allowing apple to sell iphones going forward until they actually implement this in good faith.
@@Midicow
Would hurt EU more. They do that and USA pulls out of supporting the EU military complex.
People made the same "it hurts EU business" arguments about GDPR. Because corporations want to do whatever the hell they want.
But if they protect their earning, that also means that they protect the developers earning.. (because with free piracy not just Apple but also the developers won't earn anything... or at least both of them will earn significantly less... is that really a bad thing if developers get the money for their work, and users are not allowed to install any craked version of their software..?)
@@TamasKiss-yk4st That is one of the few bad usecases. However...would you ban cars because they can be used to run people over, when they are allowed since they possess great utility? Apple gives me only what they think is necessary for me to enjoy their phone, now sideloading allows me to use my phone the way I intended. Easy as that, I am not going to run over a person so to speak, in this case crack and steal software. Do you really think this world is so morally destroyed that the only usecase will be piracy?
@@TamasKiss-yk4stI assume that you have the same stance on Adblockers? That people shouldn't be allowed to install Adblockers? Right?
But the thing is that Adblockers always harm the developer/owner. But sideloading doesn't.
Judging by your comment you probably think that the main use of sideloading is piracy. But it's not. The main use is to get apps or versions of apps that aren't available in the official store.
So how big of a deal is piracy on Android? My guess: negligible.
The benefits far outweigh that.
I was talking about the AI law, in any case.
There's no good argument against blocking side loading besides Apple being greedy and wanting a *huge* cut of the proceeds from other people's work.
I can't wait for the EU to start the same treatment on Spotify, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, etc...this is just the first step. People are getting used to very bad digital abitudes and it's scary how much we let companies exploit our purchases, data and, sometimes, lives...
Apple went 10% android.
Let’s say 5…
🇪🇺EU:😡

Steve jobs🪦:💀
I'd say 1%-5%

Actually, I still don't understand why people are acting like sideloading is impossible. It's pretty easy with "altstore". Sure it requires a pc/mac for the initial setup, but then you're all good. Literally that's the only difference - you can't install the .ipa (.apk equivalent) straight from the phone.
Glad the insurance thing is HIGHLY ILLEGAL IN THE EU. Come on US, get your act together and start fighting against this kind of commercial abuse!
In Austria, I also installed a tracker, which saved me 150€ in insurance per year.

The EU needs to come down HARD on Apple.
🤨😳
I think other countries need to follow, as in seeing that the EU already has these features and demanding that apple will also provide them in Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea etc.
@@ayoCCyou do need laws that are in place already or you would need to make new laws specific to this case
@@grenadeasc start somewhere, doesnt matter where, just start
Oh they will.
EU will just simply pass another law to force them into submission or sue the sh out of them.
Apple has been pestering users with dumb dialogs on macos with non-app store apps for years... Very frustrating.
It's funny when people complain about having to click okay on a UAC prompt on Windows, like bruh you ever try to install anything on a Mac?
Apple treats their users like morons.
I mean windows has “Windows Defender SmartScreen” which is basically the same thing. Maybe not quite as intrusive as macOS
@@KyleDavis328 Same on Mac except if it involves the system. Just a drag and drop, "this app has been downloaded from the internet", click OK, done
@@WalterManThis doesn't occur very often though, and it's still far easier than MacOS. Takes two buttons to get around.
Asking for administrator privileges is 100% necessary too. (I know you didn't say anything against that, just wanted to add that on)
I actually think windows does sideloading very well. I have no problems with it.
The entire point of sideloading is to be able to install unsigned software to a device...but in Apple's version, they have to approve of it anyway. I don't see how this changes literally anything. Please tell me if I'm missing something here.
Because that's their idea;
It’s the same, nothing has changed hence “malicious” compliance. It’s childish.
It changes the amount of money apps have to give to Apple.
You're not missing anything. Apple is intentionally punishing and threatening to bankrupt developers who want out of the walled garden. Because they know the moment they let people outside, they will lose the ginormous money printer they've built and so carefully maintained over the years with US govt bribery (sorry, "lobbying") and legal threats.
They are just finding new ways to obey the law and still steal from devs at the same time, devious. Devs should just stop making apps for iOS, people will stop buying, it's the only way they'll learn their lesson.
That's not sideloading then. The whole point of sideloading is that it's not centralized and it's definitely not controlled by the device manufacturer.
Edit: to all the people who are gonna say "sideloading means downloading from websites directly, it's a high level term and has nothing to do with centralisation 🤓" yes, you're right. But it completely defeats the spirit of sideloading, and this kind of malicious compliance that these corporations keep pulling off by splitting hairs is what ultimately makes savvy consumers hate these organisations more. You didn't do anything good by proving me wrong over a small distinction.
According to you, the OED however disagrees.
@@oxfordsparkythe OED can disagree however they want, that doesn't change the definition of a well established word.
It's not true. Sideloading is a high-level technical term referring to what Apple uses it to describe.
It's not even side loading. Those same websites still have to be approved by apple.
sideloading is what a thing does because it has a computer chip in it, it doesnt have a spirit or need a point
I literally never would have thought the EU would be leading the charge on exploitive technology regulating but I'm all for it. I wish we could live in a world with unfettered innovation but the reality is that people can't seem to help themselves from trying to take advantage of people.
I prefer my apps to be free of malware and with a consistent interface. You must be a Windows junkie for thinking it's not important... Berk...
@@Simboiss??? you dont have to sideload? you know the appstore isnt going anywhere. Apple shill
@@kkmarokkaan You don't understand...
@@SimboissInstead of calling you names or informing you on how you're wrong (pointless to do either) I'm just going to let you know that you are severely missinformed on this topic and you should do actually research instead of regurgitating what apple wants you to believe.
What's wrong with following the norms established by Apple? They make sure apps have a minimum of quality before being published. It's a good thing, and the EU wants to break that.

Apple has already been fined 2 billion USD under the EU digital markets act. But seemingly they haven't learned and just continue their strategy of maximum malicious compliance.

No they don't call it "euro cents", it's just cents/cent
Most people in europe just call eurocents, cents although they are officially called that to avoid international confusion.
Exactly.
Cents are pretty common for the fractions of a base currency in any decimal system. Only when you might expect multiple valutas in a text do you specify whether they are dollar cents or euro cents or Argentinian cents (centavo).

There should be a clause in the law stating that malicious compliance will not be tolerated.
There should be a clause in the law that... whoops, wait, the EU is not a democratically elected body. Oops.
That clause is supposedly implied by all laws. That's what courts are actually meant for.
The British common law that's the foundation for the way US laws work is a special case in considering the strict text of the law only.
Laws are weak and difficult to enforce when the body making them is not democratically elected, and call itself "consultative".
We have green leaves on trees in March in the UK. It's feckin' spring here!

What's the actual name? Because as far as I can tell, it's Euro cents. Big Ben is not the tower you're looking at, it's one of the bells inside the tower. Yet stupid people insist on calling the whole thing Big Ben. We often substitute an informal name for the formal thing. No-one is going to be confused if you call them euro cents, or cents though. The thing that will really confuse them is that you're not paying with a contactless card or device, like a normal person and that you're carrying cash.

My only reaction to all this was 'Oh my god, let the poor woman recover in piece! It's not as if she accidentally posted a nude or something!' Honestly, it boggles my mind that they've latched on so hard to this right now, especially with everything else going on in the UK...
Finally some sense.
They need to fine apple 2 more billion or more for doing this kind of thing and not listening. Its obvious they are making these processes as tediuos as possible.
One of the driving factors behind the requirement to allow side loading was that being forced to use Apple's payment infrastructure made non apple music streaming services uncompetitive as the additional fee's meant services like Spotify had to be priced higher on apple devices. But Apple's implementation tacked on additional fees for developers to use sideloading so I really hope the EU keeps at Apple because it's clear their compliance is going directly against the spirit of the ruling.
Awesome updates!
That's insane that Apple can just do all of that bs and still comply with the EU guidelines, could they not make them a lot more specific? They are just making it very hard for developers to do anything.
Theyll get fined again for up to 20% of their yearly international revenue if they go too far
