Synopsis: Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon, The Son, Westworld, Fargo) of the Tribal Police as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. The closer he digs to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. He is joined on this journey by his new deputy, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon, The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico). Chee, too, has old scores to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other and their own personal demons on the path to salvation.

Zahn McClarnon is very deserving of the lead in this series. He work is brilliant in every role he's done.

Zahn has done a lot of great work but this series plot line is full of holes and his acting along with the other actors sucks.
What AMC is doing something different instead of another walking dead spin off.

I love Tony Hillerman's books and Zahn McClarnon is my favorite actor, so I am looking forward to watch this show. The character of Chee does not correspond very much to the idea I have of him, but movies often differ from books by necessity, so wait and see. . .
He wasn’t Chee.
Adaptations are not always accurate , I don’t like the Chee changes. In the books he was way different. But if you are not a book fan it as not bad. It had the feel of a Hillerman story.
@@lytalo I am a devoted Hillerman fan. I was very disappointed with the way his story was butchered. It was not Jim Chee or Bernadette! Didn't work!
I really want to watch this series. Zahn McClarnon is my favourite actor, always so wonderful. But I live in Finland and I think it will never been shown here, hopefully in some streaming service.
Just watched the first two episodes and i can assure you guys that it is way more interesting than the trailer showed
I’m anticipating watching this series. Just saw a commercial on an episode this evening.
It’s refreshing to see the Native Americans taking charge and on the screen doing positive things.
I anticipate seeing more Native Americans making things happen.
There a series called Prey coming out on Hulu that looks good. Native American cast, and one of the language options for viewing will be Comanche.
Yeah but they butchered the Navajo Language in this one, it's like a Japanese trying to speak Korean without knowing the language 🤣 Really butchered.
There are so many Native American writers, screenwriters and authors who write great stories about their own cultures. This is another story written by a non-Native writer even though the roles are played by Native American actors
@@gnostic268 And honestly, that's okay. Yes, it would be AMAZING if we get to see the incredible stuff written by Native authors. It's something we NEED, DESPERATELY. But that doesn't mean that a show centered on Native characters is automatically unacceptable or bad, as long as it's respectful. We can have both. They can coexist.
@@paranoid5881 I heard that the Navajo Times also called the show not authentic in terms of Navajo culture. Most actors aren't Navajo. Still looks really nice and a chance to shine for Native Americans even though they seem to show a fictionalized version of Navajo culture. I watched the pilot and liked it.
This show was outstanding, what an absolute gem.
Zahn McClarnon reminds me of Colin Farrell for some reason. They both should team up on something. I started to read Hillerman's "Blessings Way" and this series would serve as a great appetiser.

He was the Legendary Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn. Those are good movies to. Coyote Waits, A Thief in Time and Skin Walkers.

I'd still love to see him in it. Yeah he's 75 but there's still so many roles they could create for him, it's the talent we want.

@@Suncast45 How so? I though it was decent. Not on the books level, but it's rare for a tv adaptation to completely exceed it's book canon.
@@12354rony I had time to reflect on that and agree it was a fair screen adaptation. I just had a different vision of Jim Chee and the very thin trim Deputy lady!
@@12354rony I had time yo reflect on this and agree it was a fair adaptation of the book. While Jim Chee did a good part, Bernadette did not seem to fit the character for me. Would love to see more of Hillerman's work on screen!
@@Suncast45 And that's ok! We all have our own visions of our favorite characters, it's the same for me with asoiaf except they completely butchered most of them by the end of the main series. At least this show doesn't suffer from horrendous writing lol

The books are great. The series with Wes Studi and Adam Beach were good. Look forward to seeing this.
It’s not paranormal is it? It’s realistic? Not like werewolfs or whatever? They show a couple shots trying to be creepy, hopefully there isn’t some dusk till dawn sudden plot twist and it’s vampires or some such bs

Unfortunately, there is very little of Hillerman or his original writing in this series. They use location, character names, and a couple of details but that's all. EVERYTHING ELSE has been changed with none of what Tony wrote in his books. We are disappointed. The acting and cinematography are great. Just not Hillerman.

T'was a very good series. I highly recommend it.
I had so much hopes when I heard who the producers were. But this trailer sparked absolutely nothing in me. In fact the trailer already bored me half way and I just barely could bring it up to watch it it till the end. It shows no exiting story and all the highlighted scenes were so very common they could have been from every series or film. Such a pity.

It's pretty interesting, the plot the main characters are good but the huge drawback is the production side .. I feel like the sequence of events are really badly constructed and the camera works needed some polishing. It the crew from True Detective did this it would have been 100x better!
