- Long term subscribers will have seen that I value routine and consistency. It helps to create a foundation from which to grow - whether with family, at work, in the gym or on the bike. For me consistency will see your through the lows and the highs. For me consistency doesn't mean optimal lifestyle let alone perfection, it just means embracing a life style, and taking some joy from the structure and routine that comes with it (and usually some progress).
I'd been intending to make a video on this subject, but unforeseen circumstances have enabled me to address this topic, with a little window as to how consistency and getting the job done - both training and work, helped me through an exceptionally stressful and difficult week.

Thanks for your video during a stressful time. Awesome. Good luck.
Well done Phil!
Good luck and best wishes. I love Panzer wagon face and elbows nice😂
Sorry to hear about the work challenges. Best wishes with everything.
Yep I also train early in the morning before work as that way I know I have done the training and can relax after work
sorry to hear about your work stress phil. hope everything settles down to some normality again soon.
Well done mate.
Excellent video (as usual) got me up and out on the bike in the cold! Thanks for sharing & sending you good vibes! 👊🙂
My pleasure Alan - so glad this has motivated you. I always find that simply getting going creates a positive energy and the resultant progression builds a virtuous cycle of good habits
Sorry to hear your news Phil. Hope it works out OK
Sorry Phill, I forgot to get back to you after saying I'm always here for a chat... what a terrible friend. This video was more moving that you'd realise mate - you've had challenge after challenge thrown at you in the last 12 months and your ability to take a deep breath, assess the situation and then just get on with the task at hand while still making time for your physical and mental health is inspirational. Not in the way people throw that word around on the internet these days, but genuinely awe inspiring. I hope you're able to make things work for your staff and customers with HSBC, and mostly for yourself. Keep approaching things the way you are and I'm sure you'll keep landing on your feet/
You are an amazing friend Nick ! And your message has literally blown me away 💯 !! Too too kind and generous 🙏 And for me Arnold Schwarzenegger says it best for us all - get knocked down 9 times, get up 10 💪 I’ve also had a lot of luck and fortune in life - so it’s only fair I get a few challenges along the way. We need to plan a Northern / Welsh meet up
@@BikeRacingWithoutMercy thank you mate. And I understand what you're saying, always good to appreciate the fortune you've had previously but still to be able to take each of these knocks, shake it off and make the best of it is such a great example to set with the platform you've got. Definitely would love a meet up soon: Snowdonia, the Lakes or anywhere with some hills, I'd be delighted!
Your videos are so inspiring! Keep it coming
When life throws excrement pies your way it never stops you from creating solid content.
I enjoy your videos and have learned alot. best of luck to you on your work challenges. very difficult to balance training and work..
I guess your talking about SVB. Wow, sorry to hear about this. Went through something similar in 2008 - very tough time for all.
Like many people, I find cycling is not only a joy, it's also a therapy. So all I can say to anyone and everyone is ...
#KeepSpinning
Keep Spinning indeed, JibbaJabber 💪 - and for sure there is no better therapy 💯 !! The ability to focus on the effort or the climb - or just glide along and chat makes for a life more fulfilling 💯
Can't imagine the stress but thanking you for fitting in time for your second family Sir!
Cheers Mike 🙏 - really appreciate your kind message. And recording a few snippets for my second family was actually a help - because of helping me briefly focus on other things 💯
Hang in there Phil. As you know, physical activity helps. Time will take care of everything. Had a pretty stressful week as well. Retired, but a lot going on.
Hi Brian - and thanks as always for reaching out🙏 I couldn’t agree more - staying calm and moving forwards is the best way to make a stressful event a thing of the past 💯 Hope you have a calmer period and plenty of joy and fulfilment to come 🤞👍
I work for one of the big 4 (well the biggest if you get my drift) and was aware of the some of the market rumours coming from your bank so really sorry to hear that its been so awful for you. Thank you for the Ride ons. I always see them come through and appreciate it. Things will get better.
Ahh you are my new Boss, Andy! Thanks ever so much for your very kind message 🙏. We have been very lucky in the UK to be acquired by such an incredible and resilient bank, so the stress on that side of life has rapidly ebbed away (albeit a lot to do). My main concern now is the other business I manage that is still owned by the US bank, where there has been no white knight so far - so thats where my main focus currently lies, hoping to help steer it to a good place .
Phil, best of luck during the work transition/change. I especially have sympathy for you right now because I am going through similar where I work, and riding the bike has been a great counselor and therapist as well!
Really nice to see you back on the up phill and looking happy with yourself too.
My thoughts are with you Phil. These are such motivating videos. I really hope everything works out ok at work!
Sorry to hear about your employer's troubles Phil, hope you and your colleagues are OK and get well looked after.
Unfortunately Phil, it will not be the last. Feels like the beginning of a perfect storm. Couldn’t agree more in regards to exercise being a great escape. I was out today after a stressful week at work and its great to just enjoy some fresh air and blue skies. Best of luck over the coming weeks.
Hi Anthony - and I’ve just seen Credit Suisse acquired by UBS - so not the last. But I still believe the European banking system is better prepared for major turbulence in terms of the capital held, low reliance on debt market for funding and smaller lending balance sheets with less exposure to very risky assets. Many more funds out there sharing the credit risk - so I hope !! 🤞😅 And for sure if you got some dry weather and blue sky, I have no doubt it’s helped energise you for hopefully a less stressful week to come 👍
You’ve had an awful 12months Phil. So glad to see you on your bike , smiling. You’re such an inspiration. Hope the bank has turned a corner now, can’t imagine they’re anything but lucky to have you working for them
Thanks ever so much for your lovely message of support Cath - its super kind and generous 🙏 - and sorry for the delay in my reply. I remain maxed out on the work front. Hope you had a lovely Easter weekend !
Hi Phil
I'm sure you will surpass all negative thoughts. I've been there and sailed that negative ghost. Found a bigger place and, for me a happier balance.
On a positive note... Good to see you have found the power up button on the kickr bike 😂.
Hi Gerry - and thanks ever so much for your incredibly pertinent message of encouragement and optimism. Finding a path that brings both challenge and joy is the holy grail, and I have nothing but respect for you for overcoming the negative on route to your balances and fulfilling path in life . And for sure - with my fitness declining, it’s forced me to think ever more carefully about the power ups, just to stay at the back of the bunch !! 😅
Training consistently is so difficult in times of stress; I found this a very motivational video👍
Cheers Tim - thats super kind of you to say so 🙏 - and for sure it’s hard to get going, but once pedalling it certainly helped 💯
Phil, good to see you back at it. No doubt work wise the whole thing has been manic and worrying, not so much for your own situation but everything else. It's at times like those that you just have to get on with it and find the best outcome. Not possible to save absolutely everything, and you have to let that go taking solace from all the things that you have been able to mitigate. Looks like there is light at the end of that particular dark tunnel and that is showing through in you too! Keep it in perspective, probably 2-3 on the Richter scale of life, although at the time probably feels like a 6, as compared with the crash, which was definitely a 9. Good work mate.
Hi Phil, good luck. Fingers crossed it will work out for you.
Lovely video! Hopefully you will have less stress this week🤞Gym always helps😊
sorry to hear about the distress at work. I was at RBS when that shitshow happened. Hard to concentrate on much else during that time.
Hi John - and thanks ever so much for reaching out 🙏 And as it happens I was 12 years into my career with RBS when the very same Sh1tshow occurred ! This time the run on the bank was for very different reasons - no bad debts from Subprime in America; No ABN Amro acquisition - with no dd and loads of big bad debts acquired; no tiny core tier 1; no dependency on debt to fund the loan book . It shouldn’t have happened ! But as you say - all consuming !
BRWM , great to see such positive mental & physical attitude, good luck for the future, keep posting your journey along the way , all the best Phil
Kudos for managing to get on the bike with all of the stress. Really admire your mental strength...a lesson we can all draw from 👍
Hi Phil so sorry to hear about your job and I hope you and your family are all ok.. well done for keep pushing my friend training is great for giving you a break and something different to focus on.. chapeau Phil 👍🤩🏅🚴
I find when I’m stressed I find it hard to hit my sweetspot and upper threshold
You’re really doing great Phil keep up the great work!
Sorry to hear about your situation, stay strong Phil
Very inspirational-so sorry to hear about what you are going through-great content as always.
I didn't know you are working at the bank spoken off by many last week. Indeed this must have been so stressful indeed. So good they have someone among their workforce like you. A hard worker, taken responsibilty and one who takes care of bodily health by training - here it is - consistently. I am sure it will all be ok some time soon, though I am not a fortune teller.
Thanks ever so much for your incredibly uplifting and generous message Agnes 🙏 - it’s given me a big lift 💯 And for sure - I have no doubt that over time it will be another footnote in history, because staying calm, and making gradual progress in life, training and work tends to do that for us all! Hope you are well and enjoyed some R&R this weekend
Good to see you thriving Phil
Cheers Shaun 🙏 - its god to hear from you! Hope life is good for you, Zoe and the girls ! I was thinking of you when we put my lads StarWars kit into the loft of our newish house (11months after moving in - coz I couldn’t get stuff up and into the loft with my back) . Hope you have a spring befitting of our favourite bounty hunter 💪
Hope all good under HSBC ownership. Some interesting times in the banks sector again! Well done on keeping up some quality training with intensity even if volume less
Great consistency in such a hectic work period 💪🏻
Cheers Mick - routine, consistency and training, are my comfort blanket ! And hope you are continuing to making nice progress towards your TT 💯
not been here for a while, great to see you back in your element Phil (fitness wise) sorry to hear about your bank (the conspiracy theorist in me says there seems to be a war on crypto friendly banks?) I'm sure your conscientious work ethic will shine through. Couldn't agree more with regards to consistency when it comes to building and maintaining fitness, whatever the discipline. Can be challenging sticking to it through stressful times but raises the discipline bar when you can. 🙏❤
Cheers Baz 🙏 thats super kind of you! As it happens Silicon Valley Bank didn’t work with Crypto companies, but such a shame for it to go under….. Ands for sure the fitness routine has been helping me deal with the subsequent stress and uncertainty 💯
Sorry you were personally involved in the collapse of the bank. An imagine it must have been unbelievably stressful for all concerned. Hopefully with HSBC there is some light at the end of the tunnel and confirmation of future employment. Sending you nothing but best wishes going forward.
Cheers Tony - and so sorry for the delay in my reply. It remains full on at work - and trying to find a good home for my German business. Hope you and the family had a good Easter weekend !
as always phil, the BRWM community are here to help you through the stress. feel free to vent your spleen, and offload that cortisol to the chat!
Hi Ian - and hope all good Sir! And as always cheers for your wonderful support! And indeed I did release a little cortisol on Saturday in the amphitheatre of the Tiny Races ! But like yourself it’s soon time to get a little competitive outside - and I hope your training is setting you up nicely 💯💪
@@BikeRacingWithoutMercy yes, i'm already 4 road races into the season. loving the training, loving the process, and enjoying the kicking match of racing in real life. 6 months of strength training has really helped my repeatability, and general robustness
Great videos! Watched your wattbike vs peloton video, but I'm wondering if wahoo or trax gives you the same L/R leg pedal efficiency data you get in the wattbike? Haven't seen any videos on YT discussing those other bikes & L/R balance. Thanks,
Mike
Much appreciated 🙏 ! The Wahoo doesn’t provide the LR balance, and I’m not sure about the Trax.
How often are you retesting ftp as I keep mine the same to track TSS volume every year
what resistance training movements have been prescribed (and proscribed) for your injury?
Hi FFF - was good to see you on the live stream yesterday, and I hope you are getting stronger each day 🤞 I have not yet had time to see the physio therapist, but build back using low weight high rep trainings (bench, dip, single leg RDL and goblet squat and now sissy squat) - plus handing back stretches and core work. And then since Jan added more weight and reduced the reps, and build from 0.5 reps on a chin up to x1 and gradually to x9…
Hi can you tell me what differences you can feel in training on the wattbike pro over the atom
Hi The Barron! The WattBike Pro uses air resistance, which in turn seems to require a more even and consistent (ie efficient) pedal stroke to produce the same power as the Atom. As a result it’s a little harder - and I feel like if I regularly also train on the Pro - my fitness and technique improve that bit more when riding. The Pro does not have ERG Mode and the resistance does not automatically change on Zwift. So it’s not as good to learn how to climb on.
I've got a atom v2 that I do all my training on in erg mode and have got the opportunity to get a pro cheap from a friend and didn't know how different it was so cheers for the reply, is sounds a lot more louder to use?
Never realised you were a banker (I will have to take back everything I have said about them in the past now😂)
Only kidding but I can imagine the stress of it all, good to keep your mind on the bike and helps get your head straight again. Summer is hopfully around the corner now.
🤣Tom & Rachelles 1st Dance !! You should see what my Dad says about bankers !! But 100% - the best time of year for us all is nearly upon us - so matters more important and joyous than finance can take a front seat! Hope you are well !
Your hand gives me anxiety
🤣 BananaChipzzzzzzzzz - I should put a warning at the start of each video to tell those who don’t like flashing lights or waving hands to look away !!
@@BikeRacingWithoutMercy hahah I love it. All in good jest my friend. Thanks for the content!
