- As ever, whilst out on my bike this week I have been doing a lot of thinking.
I now believe it is more worthwhile to strive for consistency in training rather than perfection. In this video I explain why and how I believe it could be beneficial for you, too.

Simply riding my bike every day has been one of the best training tools for me. Having that consistency is a huge mental boost, and I end up feeling my fitness and knowing myself better.
You’d make a great 1 to 1 coach, some great advice.
Great video Chris. It reminds me of something a friend once told me. “If you expect nothing but perfection you will be doomed to failure.”
Love the orange of the bike, the subject matter of this video is so bang on!! Chris your an absolute legend and hit the nail on the head it's ok to aim for the stars and settle for the moon.
I am not really qualified to comment, but would like to add one thing anyway. I have the impression listening and feeling one's body eventually adds to the feeling of happiness and satisfaction that I think you describe. There are days when I cycle slowly, sometimes faster and other times I start slow and then it gets faster all by itself 🙂. I would not want a machine or training plan tell me how I have to ride.
Sporadic viewer of your vids but these last two have been fantastic. Getting that balance and consistency in your life and riding keeps everyone happy. Great advice, many thanks. 👍
My wife is the poster girl for consistency. 60 years young, at it everyday! I am always playing catch-up.
When I used to run a lot I noticed how Strava totally ruined many peoples training. Instead of balanced targeted training, with intervals and recovery runs, all runs (being public) meant people were always trying to impress on their Strava, suddenly nobody did real recovery runs. Lots of people I knew burned themselves out trying to look great in Strava.
I can vouch for consistency. I’ve been doing lots of zone 2 over hard mentally taxing interval sessions and I’ve seen Huge improvements to my cycling fitness
I think fitting cycling around work and family has really helped me with this. I tend to ride 10-12 hours a week and for the past few years I have managed to do 6 month+ blocks of 5-6 days a week. Sometimes skipping workouts when tired but always riding.
What a very important subject Chris..I needed this not just for my cycling but in Life ..button reset ..Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
One of your Best!!!
Too disorganized to seek training consistency. I'll settle for pretty good, or a bit better than average! The goal now is to have fun. On occasion I'll run it to the red line though.
Nice and true words of an extraordinary athlete just growing older. Thanks!
Great work Chris...pedal on my friend!!!
Great vid Chris so relevant to cycling and everyday life.. its great to listen to your perspective on your racing life and current thinking 👍👍🚴
love this!
Some great thoughts about training thanks
Absolutely brilliant and what a great perspective on training. Keep them coming.
Another great video Chris 👍
