Scaletrains is my absolute favorite US based model railroad company because of your attention to detail and commitment to making rare and obscure rolling stock and paint schemes. It really sets you apart from the rest of the crowd and is making the other companies step up their game so that's a plus. I personally welcome the CSX Roadslugs and BN GP39E/V models the most. I may just have to get one of the first run Rio Grande units just because they fit in the SP takeover era and would be great with my SD40T-2s from you guys. (Please do more tunnel motors especially the 90s version DRGW and SP). I may even get a Conrail version if you make em. CSX GP30Ms would be neat as well just for some paint scheme variety.

Kennecott Copper, Utah division wanted to place an order for a SD30 and EMD told them no and they built the last SD24 for Kennecott Copper's Utah division.

Missed the live broadcast so catching up on Friday. Go Harry Wong!
I'm very pleased ScaleTrains is offering the GP30 and including D&RGW in the first run. Like Tony Cook, I am a little disappointed with the late era detailing on the D&RGW GP30's - might be Paul's prerogative there wanting units he was seeing in the late time frame. I went over a number of photo's from around 1980 give or take and it looks like I can sort of justify a couple of them as modifications had been made to some by 1980 give or take. The McCarty re-railers were fitted around 1979 which fits my era too.
Yes, I have all three of the Rio Grande Diesels Vol 1, 2 and 3 by Joseph Strapac. Had vol 1 and 2 since the 80's and read them many times. There were 4 D&RGW GP30's repainted into the large herald, 3001, 3002 (phase 1) and 3014 and 3027 (phase 2). I hope if you offer the as-delivered, you'll offer with plows so they can represent 70's era GP30's. I have ordered one each of the small and large herald due this fall to hold me over for now.
There are comments in Rio Grande in Color Vol 2 about the hatches on the front being mounted upside-down by the maintenence staff as a prank or joke.
As for SP, I lived in California and never did see any SP GP30's, mostly northern California. As pointed out, there weren't very many and they most have been down south.

You need to check with UPs Steam team about that gray. They are responsible for the Centennial and they can steer you to the correct Harbor Mist gray. Just because the museum just painted the one in Utah doesn't make it the right color. 704B is the color example you need to follow.
