Question; if there is latency in the mics and you need to mute, why don't you get the same latency? If you do then how can you record song with drums and bass etc....? Thanks.
I'm mentally putting together my home mini studio and I find that the more I learn what I need, the more questions I have. Fortunately I ran into your channel. You are answering my questions clearly and plainly. Thank you for clarifying what in the beginning for me was mystifying smoke.
To reduce latency for overdubs when recording through plug-ins, lower the buffer size in your DAW as low as possible (usually 64 samples.) While this setting is not always possible, depending on your PC/Mac CPU capability, 128 to 256 samples is almost always acceptable with a track or two with virtually any modern computer. Overdubbing is usually quite acceptable in the 5-10ms range a small buffer size offers. And always turn phantom power off and wait a few seconds to discharge the 12-48volts of current BEFORE unplugging a condenser mic to avoid a “pop” that could destroy a driver!

Thank you for creating the best video to set up focusrite 2i2. I have looked at several videos when I purchased the product. The creators did give instructions, step by step, on how to connect the audio interface to your computer. Kyle, you targeted the right audience, Beginners! Hello, great instructional video! Quick question... if I wanted to use this device to record multiple tracks for electric guitar, bass, keyboard, and electric drums it should work fine, right?
The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 that I’m using in this video will allow you to record up to 2 tracks at a time. You can layer as many tracks as you want with separate takes. Thanks for watching, San Miguel Tejada!
I did a basic guitar track then did a lead guitar track over top of it but there was a delay with the second lead track. both were muted and using the direct monitor setting on the \Focusrite. suggestions?

Excellent video! I'm a beginner in all this and am interested in the setup to record vocals on pre-arranged background soundtrack, karaoke-style. Do you have a video on such?
I think this video is the closest to what you’re looking for. The steps are basically the same. Just drag in your backing track first and then follow these steps to record over it.
It depends on which interface you're using. For example, I don't believe this is possible with the Focusrite Scarlett Solo. On the other hand, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (and above) have a monitor knob and headphone knob separately.
Hello Blue Monk! :) If you don't want to record through a microphone, why do you need an audio interface at all? For example I just want to turn on Ableton Live, draw some MIDI notes and listen to it through my PC speakers. What would the audio interface change here? Thanks!
just picked up this focusrite scarlett and some rokit speakers, the driver download doesn’t seem to work, my scarlett also doesn’t show up at all in my sound settings
You would probably get better results sending the direct guitar signal from the DAW to an amp (using a reamp box). If you want to use the amp simulator, I’d recommend running it through a regular speaker (otherwise you’d be effectively running through two “amps” and two “cabinets”.
Great video. I sometimes get a crackling noise through the speakers when either listening to sound from my DAW, or the internet. Any idea how this can be resolved? I have TRS cables going from my JBL 305P's into the same interface as this one in the video. Thank you.
Im using shure sm57 and when I record I hear the voice with almost 1-2 seconds delay and it makes it impossible for me to record music I have tried different DAW but I still get delay and I have enabled direct monitoring but it doesnt help, btw my headphones are wireless and I have conected them to my pc not audio interface
could you please introduce how to turn off/on the usb audio interface correctly and +48v power button and other devices conned to computer at home .I am not very sure of the correct order of all the devices. thanks.
I recorded both guitar and vocals with one condenser mic and it sounds great but will only play through one side of any sound system. I’m super confused. I’ve tried lots of different stuff and can’t seem to fix it.
Great video. Does anyone know if it's possible to play amazon music through my Focusrite and play along with my bass? I can't seem to get the audio to come through my Focusrite headphones. :(

If I do not connect studio monitors at all but use only headphones, i get a huge uncontrollable hum...I don't have monitors right now. Won't i be able to use the interface without monitor speakers at all? I have Ableton license and Behringer UMC22
That's a good idea! I'll add this topic to the list. Thanks. In the meantime, the steps should be similar in your streaming software. You just need to select the interface as the audio hardware device as described in this video.
the focusrite control app reads my guitar in input ONE, but cubase doesn't read my guitar. i have all setting correct, focusrite USB as sound driver ect. but every time i make an audio track on input ONE cubase doesn't register my guitar sounds.
This was amazing thank you! Quick question, when I use a quarter inch cable to record my guitar, there’s a underlying hum/buzzing sound. Any suggestions for fixing it?:) thanks again!
i know its really late for this answer but 1.it could be your cable (no offense) 2.you try the good ol plug out and plug back in or it could be the guitar (the guitar jack or the pickups if its electric) itself which probably wont be but you could just maybe using a bad software? or maybe itd
Hey bro idk why but when I connect my focusrite 2i2 3rd gen, with all the drivers installed, my pc does recognize the sound output as a speakers it says " Speakers Focusrite Audio" something like that. And the audio input "says" Analogue 1+2 Focusrite bla bla. Idk if its the correct. Am I wrong, can you check out, thanks for all I just subscribed to your channel.

Great video. Quick question. If you.are able to help. I bought a Tape Machine earlier today (Tandberg Series 15) and I am able to record from the tape machine into Ableton. But I am struggling on what to do to record from Ableton back into the tape machine. I am using a Focusrite 18i6. I am wondering what I would set my outputs to in the Focusrite mixrack
I would recommend setting up a pair of outputs on the Focusrite to send a stereo feed to the tape machine. This would be configured in Ableton and Focusrite Control.
With no DAW, can I just connect this audio interface to my MacBook Pro. Then connect my shotgun mic to the interface, while connecting 3.5 mm TRS to Dual 1/4 in TS Cable to my camera 3.5 mic input? Should my Mac sound input & output be set to the interface? I’m just recording CZcams videos!
I have a question. Is the guitar always connected directly to the interface? Or can it go through a pedalboard and then the pedalboard into the interface?
I'm using yamaha mg10xu as my audio interface, the problem is how much should my gain level be and my stereo input volume level....... 🙏🙏🙏Hope this yamaha product is ok to record guitar, vocal etc.....
How do you keep the track 1&2 from being recorded on Track 3 during the overdub if Track 3 is a mic? You have a Focusrite headphone jack and a headphone jack in your mixer that your DAW is hooked up to but you can't listen to both at the same time. ??
Ijust bought this for my daughter. In the box are pages of the warranty in multiple languages but nothing about the different inputs and outputs or the leads required. Clownland.
Hi, What if i want to record vocal + guitar (mic) + guitar (pickup) using Focusrite 2i2. What is the best connection/setup for this? Should it be first recording is only the vocal & guitar (Pickup), second recording only the guitar (mic)? Mixing this 2 recording to get 3 different input at the DAW. What will be the best preference?

Hello Blue Monk! :) If you don't want to record through a microphone, why do you need an audio interface at all? For example I just want to turn on Ableton Live, draw some MIDI notes and listen to it through my PC speakers. What would the audio interface change here? Thanks!
Good catch!
You’re correct: If you just want to produce with a USB MIDI controller, you don’t necessarily need an audio interface.
just picked up this focusrite scarlett and some rokit speakers, the driver download doesn’t seem to work, my scarlett also doesn’t show up at all in my sound settings
Which operating system are you using?
What would be the best way to take the sound coming from the amp simulator on the DAW on my laptop and play it through my guitar amp?
Try changing the buffer size to a lower number. Also, be sure that you’re using the best driver for your interface.
Thank you we are new start
could you please introduce how to turn off/on the usb audio interface correctly and +48v power button and other devices conned to computer at home .I am not very sure of the correct order of all the devices. thanks.
I recorded both guitar and vocals with one condenser mic and it sounds great but will only play through one side of any sound system. I’m super confused. I’ve tried lots of different stuff and can’t seem to fix it.
This is a common issue! Check out this video: czcams.com/video/ZXWla3nsBN4/video.html
Great video. Does anyone know if it's possible to play amazon music through my Focusrite and play along with my bass? I can't seem to get the audio to come through my Focusrite headphones. :(
Looking hook up my Anan 8000dle ham radio, was told by other hams I could use these items to hook up and even my heil pr77d which had a XLR cable to these devices. Help requested on these items. hookup a Focusrite Scarlett to ART MP STUDIO PREAMP to Behringer Ultragraph Pro FBQ3102HD Equalizer, a Graphical 31 stereo
Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm blown away by his competence 🤣 lmao
If I do not connect studio monitors at all but use only headphones, i get a huge uncontrollable hum...I don't have monitors right now. Won't i be able to use the interface without monitor speakers at all?
I have Ableton license and Behringer UMC22
You shouldn’t have a hum with headphones or monitors. In fact, if you have a hum with headphones, I would expect the same thing with monitors.
could we connect an amp to the audio output of the interface instead of connecting to the studio monitors??
Yes. If you’d like to use an amp and passive speakers, you can take the line outs of your interface into the line input of your amp or receiver.
Trying to use my Focusrite for iMovie voiceover. I only get sound in 1 side of the headphone. Can I fix this?
Check out this video: czcams.com/video/ZXWla3nsBN4/video.html
In that case Id like to know if the guitar signal is sent to both speakers or just to the left? Thanks bro
Hi Israel. It depends on how you set it up. Check out this video: czcams.com/video/ZXWla3nsBN4/video.html
Hello. Thank you for your video. CAn you make a video how you stream with your mic and this audio interface ? Thank you.
That's a good idea! I'll add this topic to the list. Thanks.
In the meantime, the steps should be similar in your streaming software. You just need to select the interface as the audio hardware device as described in this video.
Hi, can we use this in a Zoom meeting where in we sing praising songs using guitar and microphone?
Yes you can!
the focusrite control app reads my guitar in input ONE, but cubase doesn't read my guitar. i have all setting correct, focusrite USB as sound driver ect. but every time i make an audio track on input ONE cubase doesn't register my guitar sounds.
This was amazing thank you!
Quick question, when I use a quarter inch cable to record my guitar, there’s a underlying hum/buzzing sound. Any suggestions for fixing it?:) thanks again!
You could try disconnecting your laptop from power temporarily to see if the problem is caused by wall power.
i know its really late for this answer but
1.it could be your cable (no offense)
2.you try the good ol plug out and plug back in or it could be the guitar (the guitar jack or the pickups if its electric) itself which probably wont be but you could just maybe using a bad software?
or maybe itd
Is there a way to have the interface audio come through the computer speakers or do I need to go buy headphones with a 1/4" jack?
You just need to set your DAW output to your computer speakers/headphones.
SAME
That is correct. You should select those options as the input and output.
@@AudioUniversity thanks 4 the answer, r u sure ?, that happens to you too ?, cause I've seen another videos where the sound output says Focusrite USB audio, and not speakers. Im scared lol
Don’t be scared. Try it out, and if it works then it works!
@@AudioUniversity thanks buddy, it actually works, but it caught my attention cause what i told u before, and even though it works, its pretty weird cause the windous system needs to recognize the interface as a interface, not like speakers. im gonna check out ur page, im interested thank you 4 all
Thank you for this tutorial! Was that demo recording Blue Monk?
Slightly modified, yes. Good ear!
Just wanted to know how to connect phones in focusrite for tiktok live and connect computer for the karaoke music at the same time plz
Lets get simple, can i connect the scarlet without a DAW? or other software and get a sound?
Yes. You’ve just got to select it as your audio device in your system settings. Check out this video: czcams.com/video/u_qCh3TIk8w/video.html
I have a question. Is the guitar always connected directly to the interface? Or can it go through a pedalboard and then the pedalboard into the interface?
You can run it through the pedalboard first! Good idea!
I'm using yamaha mg10xu as my audio interface, the problem is how much should my gain level be and my stereo input volume level....... 🙏🙏🙏Hope this yamaha product is ok to record guitar, vocal etc.....
I recommend setting your gain knob so that the peak level on the DAW meter is at -18dBFS
@@AudioUniversity okay thank you sir really appreciated for your quick response, new subscriber here ❤️❤️
Excellent tutorial, Thank you
How do you keep the track 1&2 from being recorded on Track 3 during the overdub if Track 3 is a mic? You have a Focusrite headphone jack and a headphone jack in your mixer that your DAW is hooked up to but you can't listen to both at the same time. ??
Listen to the prerecorded tracks in headphones. I usually use the headphone jack on the interface.
@@AudioUniversity My pre-recorded tracks are midi instruments that play through another mixer. There doesn't seem to be a way to hear both.
So clear and wonderful, thank you👌👌👌👌😊😊😊😊😊😊
Ijust bought this for my daughter.
In most scenarios, I would record guitar mic and DI at the same time and then vocals on top of that.
