- DECLUTTER with Me for the NEW YEAR!!
In today's video we are going to be decluttering my basement! With the new year around the corner, I love to do a deep dive into my storage spaces and clear out some of the items that I haven't used or needed over the last year. Today I'm going to share my thought process on HOW to declutter "expensive", "just in case", and "sentimental" clutter. I hope you will find motivation and encouragement from today's video! Remember, YOU are the boss of your stuff! - Jak na to + styl
My mother was someone who kept everything thinking us kids would want to have her "stuff", unfortunately we did not, and I was left to go through multiple dumpsters and financial costs to clear it out. Memories of spending time together was worth more than the burden of physical clutter. You use the words cute and adorable allot but it's best to donate or toss everything being kept as kids don't want to be responsible for clearing out after we are gone .
Yes, donate the 12 days of Christmas board. Crafters would love to find it.
I would definitely keep the dress so maybe one day your daughter could pass it on. Maybe you could vacuum pack it to save space or find a way to frame/display it. ❤
Great minds think alike!😅
It’s too precious to give away! Something your daughter will cherish. Please keep.💖
I’m the daughter that got her mom’s dress from when she was a baby, I donated it. It wasn’t sentimental to me and she didn’t want it anymore
i think is better to donate clothes so someone can wear it now! instead of storing it forever and honestly, those sentimental items don't have value for others
If you have a granddaughter some day it would be sweet to have her picture in the dress.
Keep the pink dress! I’m old enough to know it will be great to dress your granddaughter in! And who knows, a great! It may not be an heirloom, but it could be a tradition!
I would toss the Christmas board, donate the sewing kit and dress, and keep the queen sheet. However, the sheet would need to be recategorized as a toy (for fort building, yes!), live with the toys, and evaluated accordingly when decluttering toys.
Love, love, love when you said your time is more valuable than the refund you would have gotten for returning the pom-pom garland. Yes! Your time is valuable!
Would have loved to see you when you were actually decluttering the basement. Maybe that's too hard to film so I'm glad you did this video update. Every little bit that goes out the door is an improvement and I hope you'll take us along for more basement decluttering.
Someone will love your sewing kit!! Let it go,!!!
We have 1 family heirloom and it’s the outfit I was brought home in. My mom gave it to me at my baby shower and I brought my daughter home in it. So when my daughter became pregnant I knew if she was having a girl I would gift it to her at her baby shower and as it turned out my grandbaby girl was brought home in the outfit. That is one thing that will be passed down for sure.
Love this tradition! I recreated the background with my 4 daughters and my bonus daughter has continued this tradition into the next generation with our first granddaughter. I got married to her daddy when she was 2 and I was so excited that her daughter was the first granddaughter to wear the dress.❤
also: great idea to ask your mother if she wants the doll house back! although she will probably not play with it, she might want to set it up for when your daughter comes at her house (and your daughter might actually enjoy it there) or she has a beautiful gift for another child!
Yes!!! And there’s another grand baby on the way who might want to play with it!
@@FancyThatwithCandice awwww that‘s lovely 💕 :)
Someone will love that who sews or a beginner wanting to have a supply of sewing things - give it to a thrift shop. God bless you and yours.
Donate the sewing kit - it will have more „lives”, maybe it’ll serve it’s purpose as a sewing kit and then become just a cute container :)
Donate the sewing box… it will always just look like a sewing box. 🥰
Without, the numbers, just toss it. If someone is really crafty, they will make the whole set themselves. Coming from a crafty lady.😊😉
Donate the dress and Tupperware. Trash the Christmas board.
I agree
Cut the Pom poms off the string and let the kids use them as indoor snow balls for a snowball fight.
Thanks for your encouragement and motivation! One thing you may consider with the dress is that your children may want to take a picture of their baby in your dress in the future. ❤
I took a picture of my 4 daughters and one of my baby dresses that I
I wore in a picture when I was a baby my daughter just had her first baby and had to continue the tradition with having my first granddaughter take a picture in the dress. I may be more sentimental than you are, but it could be something to think about.😅
Love your channel and enthusiasm. Appreciate all you do!
I love hearing your thinking process with each item - that way you cover so many "oppositions" that come up
The be real and practical theme is spot on!
Have a blessed holiday season!
Always rooting for you!!!!!
Im so glad it's helpful to hear how I go through the decision process! Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!
I would give the sewing basket away for someone who would like it for sewing.
I would keep the sheet for every reason you mentioned. I would keep the dress, and do something special with it, there are Etsy stores that can make something special with it for you. The sewing box is very cute….My daughter just bought something similar at a thrift store for her 4 year old daughter to hold her tea set with all the cute accessories.
I’m working on decluttering our basement and making an office. This was super relatable and helpful. Thank you for normalizing storage! Some things we just aren’t ready to get rid of, and that’s ok.
More fun in the basement!
Your awesome! Love this video- gives me more motivation to get rid of stuff!! Thank you 😊
thank you!!! Glad it was motivating!
💜 i love the vibe of your videos, so inspirational! thank you! wishing you and your family lovely christmas! 🎀🙏🏻🎀
I moved our needle and thread items to a tiny container for “if” I need it. I understand the struggle of some of those what if items.
I enjoyed your video, but I mainly wanted to say that I love your sweater.
Donate things, and let the donation center decide if they should go out to sell or not. 😁👍
Easy decision! 🥰
One thing to consider is that the donation center usually has to pay to throw out donations that don’t meet their criteria. I wouldn’t worry too much about this one singular item, but I would discourage people from donating everything without sorting at all.
I have that pom pom garland which I love! I use it on a smaller Christmas tree as garland. 🎄❤
Pretty sweater!
Our basement and attic spaces are completely empty! If it doesn’t fit in any of our closets in our house, we don’t keep it - I won’t store things for “someday”!
The kit is cute and functional. Empty it out and let your daughter have a look at it. If she really loves it, there are so many uses like for her hair accessories, doll clothes/shoes/accessories, etc.
That's kind of what I was thinking! Then when she grows up she can use it as a sewing box if shed like!
Keep the sewing box for ur daughter,I hv one like this..n I use it for ribbons n the box really pretty
no garage or basement no attic either ( at least not one where I can store anything
I would donate the sewing box & dress. Toss the Christmas board. Great video 😊❤
Love your headband ❤❤
Thank you!! It's fun to wear one every now and then!
What is the book about?
Someone WILL love the sewing kit. I would! I rather give away these beautiful things and not repurpose them: if it’s downcycling to keep, give it new value in a different house!
I would keep the dress!!!! Your daughter could put her daughter in it + it’s beautiful🤩
I’ve been purging my house since October! Feels good to get it out. Out of everything I would keep the dress if your daughter has a daughter (in the future) how cute would that be for all of you to have worn the same dress. Baby clothes are hard for me, but it’s okay.
Tupperware is the devil 😂
Totally! I have the real Tupperware and since they’re so expansive, it’s hard for me to let them go. But if I could go back in time, I would not buy them…so I guess that it’s a good indicator that I should let them go! 😅
❤❤
That dress is so dang cute. I’d have such a hard time getting ride of it. 🥺
Donate the sewing kit! Get it off your plate! Hope you are having a great day!
Love this look the headband with the red sweater and needed this video for motivation for clutter before holidays!!!! Tyty
The one basket with handle looked broken? Is that the one you kept or gave away.
I would throw the clock ornament away. I know some people can add the clock figures but if I saw it in a charity shop I’d think it was total rubbish & wouldn’t buy it.
I agree about not getting your money back on the Pom poms. Sometimes it’s not worth the petrol money, or bus fare in my case, to get a refund for something.
You look great in red, it really suits you & looks very Christmassy.
Let it all go!! Your overthinking, on some things, that's why you don't go thru the bags again
Cut those a part and let the kids use them for an indoor snowball fight 😃☃️
CUTE idea! Thank you!
You're welcome.
My grandchildren love it!
As for the pink dress? Give it to Grandma and let her make a doll dress from it for your daughter! 😉
Keep the dress your daughter may play dress up with her dolls that what my 8yr old does all the time… plus it’s easy to fold up and store not bulky
Good point!
You always look so cute.
😊 thank you!!! ❤️
Donate the number board! Someone will love it. Give 5 yo the sewing bucket for storage
You can always find possible uses for things but the question is "Are you using them?". If you're not, or aren't immediately going to take it into your house to start using, then it serves no purpose. It's the definition of clutter.
I would donate the sign with missing numbers to somewhere that people can pick up freebies. There’s a place near me like that. I absolutely would not donate it to some place where people would have to pay for it.
put the target pompoms in the back window of your car! unless you have a minivan......dump the dress and yes donate the 12 days of christmas
Add the dress to your grandmothers box
I don’t mean this to sound rude through keyboard - genuinely curious. What’s the purpose of asking a grandparent if they want that child’s toy back? You mean to keep at her house for your daughter to play with?
We have another baby joining the family soon, my mom loves collecting toys for her grand babies to play with!!!
Donate the sign and they will throw it away if they can’t sell it. Donate the sewing kit as is. You daughter doesn’t need more stuff she didn’t ask for.
👋🏾;)😘😘😘😘😘🇫🇷
Keep the dress incase your daughter wants to take a picture of her daughter in it
Sorry but I had to stop you when you referred to your old toddler dress as an "heirloom". Nope, it's just old. An Heirloom has value, not simply emotional value, but actual resale value (as in you could purchase it for lots of cash at an estate sale). This is a donation, or a garage sale item at best. You said it yourself, that you have pictures of yourself and your daughter wearing it, so keep the pictures and declutter the item. (btw, it's taken me years to admit this truth to myself and push myself to letting go of things that are not serving a purpose and are not "timeless" and will be in demand from my offspring.) Keep decluttering and inspiring us to continue to do the same - it's SO worth doing for our mental wellness.
If it was her baby dress, and then her daughter's baby dress that she passed down, it is now considered a family heirloom... it doesn't have to have monetary value. I'd probably make sure I knew what I was talking about before leaving rude comments on someone's video... just a thought.
This dress is cute but so are plenty of baby clothes. My mother-in-law left bags of baby and teenanger clothes for her daughter and her children, she stored them for about 30 years and they all ended up in trash. Also, I would toss out the board. Sometimes donating things or keeping them for others is just giving responsibility for your clutter over to them.🤷
I never donate anything that does not have all the pieces. Yes, people are crafty.. but the majority of people going to donation centers are people who need things and have no other choice, and they will not be able to have time and resources to be crafty. Being on the receiving end of donations, food pantries, and clothing services I can tell you first hand nothing feels more degrading than getting ripped, stained, slightly dirty clothing; expired food; and broken, dirty, or not complete objects. It's like people assume that we are so desperate that we will just be thankful we got anything. But we also want to be humans and keeping our dignity is half the battle.
Keep the little pink dress for your grand daughter.
I’ve been watching for over a year now. You’re a sucker for “cute” stuff and for bargains. If you would go on a no spend journey for “cute” stuff and invest that money instead, I bet you would explode your investments. $10 here, $20 there on wasted items adds up over time. I enjoy your decluttering videos but I have realized that I don’t have much to declutter anymore bc I’ve stopped buying things that don’t matter. Maybe something to think about….
Get rid of the dress and sewing basket.
Throw it away
Get rid of the Dress, you have pictures!!
I think you can mail things back to Target. But please do not shop there. They are pro trans for little kids
