I was an 80's kid. GI Joes were my favorite! Back then I modeled on stage at the mall a couple times and won. Winners received toy certificates. I remember buying He- Man. That smell of rubber, meaning brand new. Anytime I smell that same rubber smell it immediately brings me back to the 80's. You have an awesome collection!

My dream has been to someday recreate Toysrus from the 1980's for myself. I work at a Toys R Us here in Canada and while I agree I don’t necessarily feel that magic in the store any more either. I can happily say the kids still do. That’s the best part of my job, seeing the little kids sprint ahead of their parents to get to the door and run to the section they know their favourite toys are. And seeing the joy as they stare in amazement at their hero’s.

Hey, I’m here because of Rebel Force Radio. Mind blowing stuff!
I grew up in Yugoslavia and we had to go to Italy or Austria to get toys like LEGOs, which were the only expensive toys my parents decided to buy for me, because we didn’t have money to spare and after seeing how creative I got with LEGOs, they saw the value in them. Just looking at LEGO catalogs gave me hours of pleasure and daydreaming. 80s really was a special decade.

We grew up lower-middle class. Initially, we were bordering on dirt poor, into my dad found a good job. It wasn't enough money for us to be spoiled with all of our favorite toys, but my parents would still occasionally buy us a GI Joe figure, or Thundercats, or whatever other toy was flavor of the month back in the 80s.
I always appreciated every single thing they bought me. I cherished them all. Not once did I ever throw a tantrum if there was a toy I wanted, and we couldn't afford it. My siblings were just the same; they appreciated everything we were given.
I remember having friends that were the only child, and we're given near everything they asked for. Absolutely spoiled. The few times they didn't get what they wanted, they'd kick and scream, throw things, insult their parents... Just sad. God forbid I tried to tell them how lucky they are, with all the things they were given. I'm talking multitudes more than my siblings and I combined.
Anyways. This video brought me back to my childhood in the 80s/90s. We really did have the greatest toys of any generation, hands down, no competition.

as an '80s child growing up in England, this was my bread & butter!! Without doubt my fav toyline was M.A.S.K., but like you my parents couldn't (or wouldn't!) afford to feed the collection, so I too dreamed of what it would be like to own them (aside from the ones I got bought at birthdays/Christmas) and cherish them without ever doing so....I lived in a part of Greater Manchester called Middleton. There was a huge Arndale centre in town and at the back of it was a kinda supermarket mum used to shop in and on one specific aisle was just rows and rows of toys where I used to lose myself! There was also another store (John Menzies?) that used to have toys right at the back....ahhhh, the memories!
Now, at 45 I can really appreciate your collection and what you've done, how you've recaptured the magic of your childhood and the fact your wife has helped and supported it is just as awesome! Fantastic, just way too cool; thank you for sharing and re-igniting blissful childhood memories :)

Last year I began putting together a collection like yourself. Just what was magical to me as a child and obviously still burns within me today. Mostly JOES, TRANSFORMERS, and MASK. I love your message about not settling in a relationship with someone that doesn't empathize with your desires. I was in a relationship for a long time where I felt drained most of the time because I don't think I was truly able to be myself around them. Now I'm so much happier. Thanks 🙏 for the video!

So many times I remember being in toy stores and seeing walls of carded figures and being told 'no, its too close to your birthday/xmas' or 'if I buy you one I have to buy your brother one so no'. It made the times I did get something all the more special though! ;-)

80s was a real era I feel. Growing up back then was an enriching experience in itself. The toys were lively and used to invoke playability in real sense, cartoons used to be fun and teach learning lessons important for character building and life, and we used to be having a very important aspect in all of us - imagination. Sometimes I so badly wish to back to thoese days. Back then we didnt have the internet accessibility to be aware of all the toylines or to know all the characters and their ammunition arsenal, but even owning 1 toy was a matter of sheer joy, pride and sense of achievement which today's era cannor offer with their moden technologies of toymaking. I wish time had frozen back in the 80s.....

YES!! But I also remember they had so much "weird and generic toys" that you could spend hours looking at!!!! I've tried looking for videos of Toys R us during those years, but no one carried a camera around like we do now! what a shame! Thank you for recreating the memories for us!!!

Fantastic video of the ultimate toy room! I myself grew up in the 80's, born in 1972 and I remember the toy stores being stocked so well back in the day. Your right, trip to TRU just isn't the same anymore. I check mine weekly, but the stuff on the shelf doesn't have the same excitement as it did when we were growin up. Look forward to part 2!!!!!!

Same! Your story is my story, I think that is part of the fascination of why I still buy myself a doll here and there, things I couldn't afford then I can now treat myself to. Makes me feel like a kid .❤

I love your description of how you felt walking into Toys R Us.
For me in the 70’s it was Child World Toy Store in Massachusetts
I remember how the toy store smelled and seeing Evel Knievel Toys in their boxes and cool plastic Marx Machine Guns! I have a “ toy room “ in my home it’s a time capsule. I’ve been collecting for about 30 years now I’m 53.
    As Willy Wonka beautifully said
“It’s a world of pure imagination” We are collectors who bring to “life” our most cherished memories in our toy rooms.
Thanks for sharing your iconic collection and the narration was magical ✌🏽

I am from Ontario too! I lived up in northern Ontario in Thunder Bay. There is really only small towns in northern Ontario and it's like a 15 hour drive to Toronto. I remember the first time I was in a Toys R Us in the 80s we had gone down to Duluth Minnesota for my dad to see family and we got to go to Toys R Us there. I never seen a store so big and with so many toys, I was in awe! I got a wwf board game from that store. It was awesome.

Great vid bud. I have my mighty morphin power rangers collection from the 90s, I was the person who never had the toys when I was younger but everyone else did. I had to wait 20+ years until I had the money to buy mine. All brand new inside the original boxes all still sealed. One day I will have my own gaming room / man cave with my display.

This is actually the first video I saw from your channel. It popped up on my feed after watching a few Toys 'R' Us demise related videos. Your museum room set up is more Toys 'R' Us than Toys 'R' Us Has been in the past 2 decades. The lighting and the set up all perfectly recaptures the feeling of an 80s Toys 'R' Us. There is just a warm and fuzzy feeling when watching all these virtual tours. Excellent Work!

Thanks! So glad to hear that. I love that I'm able to share it with fellow 'Toys R Us kids' who grew up in the same era as me. There are some younger people who don't get it and some who even go so far as to make personal attacks, and I just feel sorry for them. Empty inside and dying for attention. Not willing to do anything positive to get it. With the mass sadness of TRU closing down, I'm glad I can share this little piece of it frozen in time with those who saw it first hand. :D

I just discovered your channel and I absolutely love it! I was born in 1977, so the 80's was my playground and I remember all of the lines that you talk about on your channel! I loved Star Wars, GI Joe, Wheeled Warriors, Transformers, MASK, He-Man, MUSCLE, Battle Beasts, Thundercats and TMNT, as well as a few others, but those mentioned are my absolute favorites! I still have a few of my toys as well, but like many others, many were given away after I passed them on to my little brothers. Thank you for your work and for collecting so that I can relive this part of my life that I hold so dear!
