    Extreme Ownership Summary:
    Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, two retired Navy SEALs, tell us how to be great leaders in their book Extreme Ownership. In order to lead and win, you have to take total ownership of everything in your world. There is no room for excuses, blaming, or complaining. Everything rests on the leader!

    Jocko is, and has been for over a year, my inspiration for life. I have gained more from him than school has ever taught me. I have listened to all 117 of his podcasts, and read both books that were not his children's books. I have his quotes in my wall and live by the montra "Discipline Equals Freedom."

      I'm making my way through his podcasts. I've only heard about 10 or so, but they've changed my life for the better. Looking forward to hearing the rest.

    Had to read this for a work convention at 36, realizing how lucky I am for my call centers experience to bring over to the construction sector. Many have only done this job or similar. It’s revolutionary to them. Call centers train in this model, just don’t see Jocko on the booklets. Also, be mindful that you can “over own” and you shouldn’t “keep” issues waiting on solutions that are not in your scope. Pass it. Trust the process. Thanks for the video.

    It really comes down to not settling for substandard. I've posted this around and it fits here too. Something I advised my subscribers in the very beginning of my own work day one. The substandard--everyone seems to settle for it now. We have reached an apathy to achieve---not just in this country but the world. But you can look at this apathetic mindset in a different light today. The fact that everyone is so weak minded and so unwilling to put forth effort makes it easy to stand out and excel. Simply put, become the Sheepdog among the docile lambs. If you develop a mindset that would be able to compete with other Sheepdogs you will blow away the competition which are largely not today. And life is about competition, not the participation trophies that they are trying to indoctrinate us with. I hope this helps someone out there and go be GREAT!!----Charles

      @wisdom-for-life  Před 2 lety +1

      You’re right, it’s very easy to stand out these days if you put in the effort/time. But I think it’s cooperation more so than competition. Win-win situations for you and others. It’s not a bad mindset to be competitive, but pushed too far it can be. Leadership is about cooperation.

    you missed a crucial pro for Decentralized Command: if everyone understands the big picture, or the Commanders Intent as Jocko and Leif put it, it will be easier to adjust to unexpected changes or other obsticals (my brain can't compute this word atm lmao) and Get After It successfully.
    thought, i add this here because that just beats every other reason to follow or lead correctly by taking in the Commanders Intent.

      Yes, it’s still worth reading because the book is about taking full responsibility and accountability of your life... extreme ownership style. This can start on an individual basis and from there it can be applied to bigger teams.. but you always start with yourself

    I actually disagree with the part about the leader success and failure rests with the leader! at my work my team has a new manager who is a shitty leader! he has little people skills and is a liar! he doesn't understand the job properly and plays with (heavy plant) machinery like a little boy with toys. our team is phenomenal and gets on amazingly and gets the job done well until the "leader" interferes! so it follows that he stands on the back of the team and reaps the glory for a job well done and was already well done before he came along! it's not so simple as how this video makes it seem!

      I think what should be taken in your situation is that your manager is fully capable of being that much better, but is most likely in over his head and has the respect of nobody because of it. Upper management needs to be notified.

Personally i will be glad if i never lay eyes on him again in my lifetime! He completely changed the dynamics and atmosphere for the worst massively.
