Extreme Ownership Summary:
Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, two retired Navy SEALs, tell us how to be great leaders in their book Extreme Ownership. In order to lead and win, you have to take total ownership of everything in your world. There is no room for excuses, blaming, or complaining. Everything rests on the leader!
Jocko is, and has been for over a year, my inspiration for life. I have gained more from him than school has ever taught me. I have listened to all 117 of his podcasts, and read both books that were not his children's books. I have his quotes in my wall and live by the montra "Discipline Equals Freedom."
117 podcasts! Wow! 😅👍
I'm making my way through his podcasts. I've only heard about 10 or so, but they've changed my life for the better. Looking forward to hearing the rest.
...Good 😎
wow, beautiful thought!
Jocko is great! If you like him, you might also like Jordan Peterson. Have you listened to his lectures?
Whattttt? All of them. And they are all like 5 hours long. I can’t 😩
This advice is pretty applicable if you’re a young manager in your job. Mistakes give you an opportunity to show that you can own up to mistakes. It helps you a lot.
i'd say it's applicable for life
Had to read this for a work convention at 36, realizing how lucky I am for my call centers experience to bring over to the construction sector. Many have only done this job or similar. It’s revolutionary to them. Call centers train in this model, just don’t see Jocko on the booklets. Also, be mindful that you can “over own” and you shouldn’t “keep” issues waiting on solutions that are not in your scope. Pass it. Trust the process. Thanks for the video.
Found your channel over at practical psychology. And I stayed and subscribed because of this video! Great stuff! It's been on my "to read" list for a while now.👍
Jocko is a great inspiration as he delivers real world advice .
This video is an awesome summary of the book. Thanks a lot for that!
yes it is, you're right!
Good job ! Having read the book a couple of days before seeing your video, I appréciate it even more ! Good reminder of all the good pieces of advice you get by reading this GREAT book !
Thanks man! I appreciate it! Agreed, this is a great book. I recently read his newest book and it's also quite good - concise and no BS!
I need to read his book. My mindset was no confidence all my life.
I didn't expect to enjoy this book tbh... but in the ended ended up really enjoying and appreciating it!
Awesome video! I have a promotional test in 2 days and this book is a big chunk of it , this will definitely help.
This is an excellent summary - thanks!.
The book is a must read for an aspiring or active leader.
amazing summary. Thank you
This is a book full of inspiration!
Great overview thank you
Thanks for summarizing this. The book was a chore to get through
This is a phenomenal book! Great for newcomers to personal development because of how exciting the stories are in in. It's like reading an inspirational movie. Leadership Strategy and Tactics by Jocko is also a great read.
Thank you! Sir. Jooko!😊
Jocko is the type of guy who brings a mattress to a pillow fight.
Great video
Lesson 1 belief system, wow 2nd time I've heard that today,
Thanks
Great review thanks for this! :) (Y)
Thanks Danny!
I currently work in an environment where if someone is corrected, They get hostile
Also management points fingers at everyone else
Welcome to 2022... But keep trying!
Discipline & Consistency
It really comes down to not settling for substandard. I've posted this around and it fits here too. Something I advised my subscribers in the very beginning of my own work day one. The substandard--everyone seems to settle for it now. We have reached an apathy to achieve---not just in this country but the world. But you can look at this apathetic mindset in a different light today. The fact that everyone is so weak minded and so unwilling to put forth effort makes it easy to stand out and excel. Simply put, become the Sheepdog among the docile lambs. If you develop a mindset that would be able to compete with other Sheepdogs you will blow away the competition which are largely not today. And life is about competition, not the participation trophies that they are trying to indoctrinate us with. I hope this helps someone out there and go be GREAT!!----Charles
You’re right, it’s very easy to stand out these days if you put in the effort/time. But I think it’s cooperation more so than competition. Win-win situations for you and others. It’s not a bad mindset to be competitive, but pushed too far it can be. Leadership is about cooperation.
@@wisdom-for-life Not a bad insight. We'll call it a bit of both. Keep being great--Charles
I like this book but I think this review could be simplified. It feels too fast and I think a numbered system or something that shows the connection between the different sections would help me.
you missed a crucial pro for Decentralized Command: if everyone understands the big picture, or the Commanders Intent as Jocko and Leif put it, it will be easier to adjust to unexpected changes or other obsticals (my brain can't compute this word atm lmao) and Get After It successfully.
thought, i add this here because that just beats every other reason to follow or lead correctly by taking in the Commanders Intent.
Good point Bert... I tried to fit in as much as I could, but that's an important pro I should have included! Good catch.
Is this book worth reading if you’re not interested in any management role???
Yes, it’s still worth reading because the book is about taking full responsibility and accountability of your life... extreme ownership style. This can start on an individual basis and from there it can be applied to bigger teams.. but you always start with yourself
WISDOM FOR LIFE thanks for your reply, I’m in love with your Channel!!
Extreme Ownership also means owning that you are the one who farted in the elevator.
Maybe a book for the Donald. Would not hurt.
Thanks for this. We just reached out to you via your Facebook page. Can you check your messages there?
It's all super basic stuff. Most of the concepts are taught in WLC (PLDC for you older guys).
HIIII GOOD-FACT
Except ... Everything ISNT our faults. its a good mentality, but just dont actually believe that you are the cause of all mistakes in your world
I actually disagree with the part about the leader success and failure rests with the leader! at my work my team has a new manager who is a shitty leader! he has little people skills and is a liar! he doesn't understand the job properly and plays with (heavy plant) machinery like a little boy with toys. our team is phenomenal and gets on amazingly and gets the job done well until the "leader" interferes! so it follows that he stands on the back of the team and reaps the glory for a job well done and was already well done before he came along! it's not so simple as how this video makes it seem!
I think what should be taken in your situation is that your manager is fully capable of being that much better, but is most likely in over his head and has the respect of nobody because of it. Upper management needs to be notified.
Become the leader
@@desebuds In a sense i have, I left the company 3 weeks ago now. i should have left a long time ago. I couldn't stand his narcissistic and lying ways any longer. I will never understand why any director (CEO) would ever want a person like that in management. I really am not exaggerating, the man is an awful human being! Personally i will be glad if i never lay eyes on him again in my lifetime! He completely changed the dynamics and atmosphere for the worst massively.
Lol what are we, in the military haha
The background music!
Maybe, just remove it.
🤦♀️😆😂
…but it’s my favorite song 😂😂
Thumbs down for the background music. Makes listening insufferable.
What’s do you do when you’re subordinates are in corrupt union, and you can’t discipline them without a grievance?
Hilariously inappropriate background music, lol. Otherwise, nice review.
Thanks man! You say the background music is completely inappropriate for the theme of this video?? Well, let me point out that it’s because I have no idea what I’m doing making these videos. Lol. Seriously. But thanks for stopping by! :)
Book’s stories were too long 😆
This felt robotic 😊
I’m part cyborg
@@wisdom-for-life some days I feel the same :) 😎 and one more thing, awesome video
@@kristopherleslie8343 Thanks. lol. I'm really a very robotic speaker.. and too analytical for my own good. no joke! :D
@@wisdom-for-life sometimes it’s good 👍🏽 smile a little and let it out on camera I’m sure we would appreciate you
