One of the most overlooked thing about VT’s offense? Is that arguably their best WR is returning and didn’t play last year due to injury. Ali Jennings, if he’s healthy this offense will be nasty.
Excellent point!
One thing with VT that bears repeating, once Drones got in and Bowen molded the offense around him, VT looked like a solid top 25 team that was really good at home and prone to mistakes on the road. If both Bowen and Drones improve and limit mistakes on the road and the new talent makes a small difference, they have every chance to end up 9-3 or 10-2 because of the ease of schedule. The key to the season is making sure they don't get in holes early, because the defense is built to get after the passer not for prolonged ground attacks.
Kyron Drones was making his first start last year agains Rutgers, but Rutgers also did not have any film on Drones before last year's game. Rutgers will also be coming off a bye week this year. 19 points with, basically, the same two teams should lead to the same result.
Delusional
Excellent and fair analysis as always! I just hope the hype doesn’t go to the kids’ heads. I think 10-2 is very realistic as long as they do not play down to their competition (which they tend to do). I was skeptical about Brent Pry, but I think he has this program on the right path. I’ll also say 10-2 with losses to Clemson and Miami. The game at ODU definitely has me nervous. That place is a house of horrors. Hope your summer is going well. Go Hokies!!
Haha the house of horrors comment got me! Surely they can get over that hump! But I agree. Don’t play down to the competition and don’t get ahead of yourself. That’s the key for this team because everything lines up perfectly for them! Can’t wait to see them in action! Appreciate you as always, Hunter! Hope you’re having a great summer too!
I'd say 10-2 with losses to Miami and Syracuse. In this era of college football, having so much returning production is extremely good for you. And Brent Pry is clearly getting the Hokies somewhere. The future is bright.
A few notes:
- There haven't been more than three ACC teams with ten wins in one season this millennium. 3/4 of your predictions so far are at that mark and SMU would be a bowl win away from passing it. I'm curious what you have in store for Miami and NCST. Just some history to consider.
- VT has a really bad record in Blacksburg against GT. I think that game is very 50/50.
- In the second half of 2023, VT dominated teams they were "better" than, but never beat a team than was significantly favored or really even an equal. With the exception of NCST, they were dominated by any "better" team they faced. The Tulane win looks good, but the green wave was missing a HC and star players. Personally, I'm not ready to call a 10+ win season for VT until they show they can beat solid teams.
1. VT is 4-5 vs GT in Blacksburg. Heavy stretch to say “bad record" vs them there.
2. This team fixed all of its weaknesses and they upped their strengths as well. They have many high impact transfers coming off that DLine including All ACC DT Aeneas Peebles.
3. Nearly all their difficult games are at home their hardest road game will be Miami and it’s not like hard rock stadium is some world beater home field advantage.
I agree they have to prove they can compete vs similar/better teams but I disagree with your reasonings as to why they "couldn’t" do what they want
@HokieFanatic22 I don't know that they've "fixed" their weaknesses. Brumfield should be a step up, but from what I've heard, he's not nowhere near an all-conference MLB. One Safety position is sill a question mark. The O-line should be better. We'll know what we have after Rutgers.
I would also add, I think it's a bit of a stretch to say they were "dominated" by FSU. Barring a (really) bad first quarter where FSU capitalized on two big mistakes, they gave FSU all they could handle -- I think it was 17-17 or similar for the last three quarters of the game, they had Jordan Travis flummoxed once they settled in. IIRC, Lousville was at home and had a point to prove that week after losing to Pitt.
Barring a slew of injuries, VT will not win less than 9!!
To those that say, they lost to the better teams in 2023 you’d be right.
but after drones was fully embedded in this offense after week five they were much better…just look at the stats.
And this year there’s only two teams on their entire schedule as good as NC State, Louisville and Florida State, from the 23 schedule, that VT and drones lost to. This is why they will get 9+.
I think Virginia Tech beats Clemson at home. And in my opinion Virginia Tech is the better team than Clemson but I wouldn’t be surprised if Clemson wins
Virginia Tech gonna be good? how so?
Bro. I know you're wearing shorts under that desk. (I would be too)
Also, Stanford is a big trap game. Going west for the first time, after putting everything on the line against Miami. I think Miami is a toss-up, but don't feel great about that Stanford game.
You might be surprised!😂
Hopefully I am Virginia tech fan so we were 7-6 so they could do better this year
Drones will be electric this year considering much he showed out with his arms & legs last year.
1 game at a time! None of these games are guaranteed wins. With that being said, we have all the ingredients for a stellar year. Stoked to see all the progress from the off-season. Looking forward to the new memories this season and hopefully making room for more championships...maybe even THE championship! One game at a time, boys! Go Hokies!
Very solid take and very solid mindset! Just go undefeated each week! 1-0 is the goal!
Let’s go
What are your thoughts about the ea college foootball game?
I haven’t been this pumped for a video game in years. We’ve waited over 10 years for this and so far it looks amazing. I’ll be pre-ordering it and talking tons about it this season!
I think they go 9-3 with losses to Miami, Syracuse (looking ahead to Clemson), and Clemson
Any team with 2 conference losses is not going to be in the hunt for the ACC Champ game much less the CFP!!!
Virginia Tech will play in the ACC title game
I don’t see Clemson winning in lane stadium they have before but the va tech was no where near at talented as they are now
8-4
Not happening. People don’t realize how far vt has fallen. Over the last 6 years they have a worse record than uva. The vt schedule is soft so it does make it possible for vt to have a lot of wins without being a great team….but they didn’t beat a single good team last year. 10-2 basically assumes everything goes their way and that hasn’t happened in quite some time. 8-4 is more realistic
I have Virginia winning at least 9 games this season… ODU is a trap game on the road!!! I have them losing to Miami, Syracuse and Clemson to finish 9-3 this season
VT not Virginia
Looks like confidence in Cam Ward! Go CANES!
Yes sir! Tons of confidence!
10-2 losses to Miami and Syracuse
I see 9-3 or 10-2 at best. At worst I see 6-6. I really doubt that they miss out on a bowl game.
I think VT goes 7-5 or 8-4. Losses to Miami and Clemson for sure but then I do think they slip up at least a couple more times like maybe Syracuse on the road or Georgia Tech at home. I could see the Rutgers game being a loss too
FIRST! I predict GE will chose VT over Rutgers. Ok - lets go! DM.
You nailed that prediction, my friend! But just wait until our Rutgers prediction!
Cant wait for your Rutgers predictions! Remember, Rutger's is really "New Jersey State" ! (What is a "Rutgers?!) I bet most of your fans do not know this. DM
