The losing team has to keep it within 10 if they are chasing or get it to the final over or last out if they arent chasing for them to get the Close Game Point. We should have explained that during the game. Our bad.

I think there may be an error on the stats. Joez only faced 1 good pitch (the first ball to him after Jimmy got out was wide, then he hit a single and didn't see another pitch) but he was given 2 balls faced in the stats. I think one of the balls Dalton faced got credited to Joez. Not a big deal, really. Just something I noticed and my stat nerd OCD kicked in.
Why would a team opt to bat first when they can get a point if they lose the game but are within 10 runs when chasing?
@@johnnydropkicksthe team batting first can still get the 1 point if they take the chasing team to the last over and/or get 2 outs in the final inning of a loss.

I’m sitting by the phone, when the owner of some team called the “Houston Texans” called and said they were gonna draft me first overall. I told them I didn’t trust call waiting, and that they were tying up the line. Then I hung up on them.

Clean game from the Breakdowns. Question: do the Story's still get 1 point for keeping the game within 10 runs? Seems like if that's the case then the chasing team should get to face atleast the remaining number of pitches or until they get the game out of the 10 point range.

They don't get a point, as the game would have been over before breakdowns won by 10 runs. You only get the extra points if you're the team chasing in second innings

Just left this same question… it’s interesting and very much benefits hitting second. There was no way for The Story to earn the extra point then right? Because they always would have either won the game outright (and thus earned 3 points) or lost with some amount of balls left for Breakdowns?
@@mikew6644jimmy clarified, if u lose in the final over as the team hitting first, you get the close game point, or if u lose by less than 10 as the chasing team

Every damn video this channel puts out has at least 1 amazing play.
Absolutely love ball in play. Love the new captains league format. However the scoreboard from the tournament last year was so much more helpful and really spelled things out. Miss seeing the ball markers for how many pitches were thrown and what kind/how many runs were scored per pitch
Captains League is a smaller crew so we had to shorten the post production process there. But have heard the response and are going to add the big score bug to the playoff games. It was always coming back for the franchise tournament

I would be interested to see the next iteration of Ball In Play have the one of the innings where the batters use an actual cricket bat instead of a waffle ball bat. I think it would let the back wall be more in play by allowing glancing hits to be purposefully utilized.
We have a plastic cricket bat. It’s way too easy. You can basically bunt for a six routinely. I think as we play more and more the back wall will come into play. Me (Jimmy) and Dalton practiced ramp shots and scoop shots to hit it backwards and high a lot and it can be done. We just didn’t have the confidence to do it in a real game yet. I’m hoping my the pro cricket players will use that method for the next franchise series

yes, you can! trickier than it might seem though, especially with the catcher behind you. a tip headed to the back wall for a 4 can easily turn into an out.
Yes! We all were trying it in practice and doing it at an okay rate but weren’t confident enough to do it in a game. The risk is high. I’m hoping the pro cricket players that join us for the franchise series will put that on display

Casual warehouse fan; most rules make sense and stopping on that rules page helps a lot, but ya'll bring up the "Golden Bowler" often and I have no clue what the heck that is lol
It means a bowler throws no bad balls in a over. (Ball never misses strike zone)
Someone goes 6 for 6 on good throws. I.e. never misses the strike zone
If a pitcher/bowler makes it through an over without a wide or bad ball they are allowed to pitch a 2nd over.
In this game, a bowler is normally not allowed to bowl more than 1 over per inning. However, if they get through an over without throwing a wide ball, they are considered a “golden bowler” and are allowed to bowl a second over in the same inning.

Why didn't The Storys get 1 point? From what it sounded like between The Rippers and The Goodfellas, if the losing team is within 10 points they get 1 point on the ranking.
Chasing team must still lose, even as they chase. Story's kept it close but were in the lead at the final inning, hence why they are ineligible for a bonus point.
For the bowling team to get the "close game" point they have to have it go into the final over or last out. Jomboy pinned a comment at the top clarifying.
In the first game it sounded like there’s some rule loophole where if a chasing team brings the game to within 10 but still looses then they get an extra point? What happens here in this case? Since the Breakdowns won with so many balls left but technically only won by 1 run does The Story pick up that extra point??
It's in a pinned comment at the top. If the bowling team brings it into the final over or out, they get the "close game" point too.

Is it cricket convention that no-balls (wides, etc) are not credited to the batsman? It seems odd to do so in Ball in Play - commentary often mentions swinging doesn't hurt but at an average strike rate of over 2 runs per ball, it is a useful skill to identify and let wide balls go. It's a free run with no penalty, while swinging at a bad ball is more likely to end up as a dot or a 1 than a good ball. When there's a good striker up, the pitcher can be intimidated into throwing wide balls - feels like the batter should get credited for those runs. But I get it if they don't do that in cricket.
Yeah extras don’t get credited to the batter for traditional stats. The notion batters should swing at everything isn’t correct. That’d be a bad strategy especially when trying to eliminate the golden bowler. In our stats we have the traditional one without extras but we also tracked batters stats with extra runs added bc it does play a huge part
