We have'em here in Brazil too, they're good but a little too sweet, almost reaching "Child's Medicine Syrup" levels of sweet depending on the fruit.
Also they make for killer projectiles, you gotta make sure to look up before parking your car, if a durian falls on it, its gonna be an expensive repair.

If you like Durian, you really like durian. For me, it is very good to eat (especially the more expensive one--they can sell for quite a price!) The odor might be bad for first timers , but once you try it and adapt it, it's one of the best fruit out there.
It's not just the smell. Sometimes they are also thrown off by the texture. I mean it's all mushy and has a weird consistency.

Not actually true, those modern flags are made of medieval ones. For example Łódzkie coat of arms is made of the of Łęczycko-Sieradzkie (Lancicia-Sieradia?) combined with the Rawa land. Flag is just the background.

Durian depends on people. Generally, it's because there are two types of people: those that can stand the smell and thus can enjoy the taste, and those that can't stand the smell and associate the smell with the taste and thus hate it.
EDIT: And this small percentage of people who aren't affected by the bad part of the smell

I've heard that durians only make that really bad smell when they are ripe, however it is the jackfruit that smells the worst. Thing is I've ate jackfruit before, in small, thin slices which are then cooked for a crunchy and soft texture and a yummy taste.
