Norfolk is the central hub in the entire South Eastern area of the Hampton Roads Metro area which is home to NATO, Norfolk Naval Station Norfolk, PETA, Douglas MacArthur Memorial, and historic districts... Hampton Roads consist of Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Hampton, and New Port News (Including North Eastern North Carolina)...a lot of politics in the area has caused setbacks in progressive growth that is a challenge as far as development. Overall it's an active and evolving area that is offering to those who live, work, and play in the region awesome opportunities to experience a top-notch quality of living!

Richmond is more upbeat and vibrant similar to DC and Baltimore I don't understand why Richmond doesn't have light rail and Norfolk does kind of wierd.

It's because Norfolk VA has a more progressive mindset than Richmond. Norfolk is the city that pushes hardest for civil rights and other nice things. Also, Norfolk is bigger than Richmond, and the Norfolk metro area (Hampton roads), dwarfs Richmonds, and is the 2nd largest concentration of people living in Virginia right behind NOVA which has a subway system. The reason why downtown norfolk is less vibrant is because most of the tourists go to the VB oceanfront instead. The Hampton Roads area has a lot of sprawl.

If you lived in Richmond you'd understand lol, they didn't even want to build a minor league baseball stadium to save the Richmond Braves, ironically RVA had one of the best streetcar systems in the world at one point

It's fairly quiet but there's plenty to do and see!! It has a good mix of downtown vibe and harbor view of the Elizabeth River

A lot of the cities we’ve been visiting seem quiet, maybe people working remotely still ?

@@cityscapestravel no sir Norfolk has never been that big in population. It's bigger than Richmond though. Both cities have lost alot of population within the past 5-10 years.
