    I have this whole recorded session and several times Albert chides Stevie for holding back and encourages him to stop holding back and Stevie would just smile and do a brief flash then kick it back to Albert. Such humility and he was always so held back when he played with those he considered legends.

      @AndrewVOdom Před 2 lety +3

      I don’t recall it that way. He encourages SRV but also counsels that playing too fast and forgetting that “less is more”..: Making that one note count can be half the battle! Albert wrung so much out of his licks and reminded all that it’s not about speed… SRV covered that well (“you got ‘em both”..:

    You can definitely see the love shared between these two icons. Albert looking like a proud daddy and Stevie grinning from ear to ear...priceless. There is little doubt as to who Stevie's #1 influence was.

    Back in the day Albert King didn't like to share his stage with any guitars. In fact he didn't like any of them. When he met Stevie, there was an instant bond. Stevie considered Albert is Godfather. And Albert loved him like a son. You can tell by the video. He would also always tell Stevie he can always do better. Tough love

    Stevie held Albert in such high esteem that it never occurred to him to try to "one up" him. Another guitar player that loved Albert was Gary Moore, who not only wrote a tribute song to him, but also had Albert play WITH him on that tribute song, among a number of other tracks off that same album ("Still Got the Blues"). The difference is, when Gary and Albert had their back-and-forth moments, Gary always tried to show off. Not (I think) to show him up, or make himself look like the better player, but more like a little kid that can't help showing off in front of his grandfather. It seems to me it's more a case of doing all he can to gain his idol's approval.

    Watch "Pipeline" with Stevie and his brother Jimi - it is a "must see to believe clip"; "So Excited" from El Mocambo he just shows his unachievable monster tone and murders this song; "Blues at Sunrise" from this show with Albert; and if you can past the copy, his entire 3 song MTV Unplugged on a 12 String - so hard to play he makes it loo like a toy - or just try one, "Rude Mood" from that set...any new SRV fan at some point goes "god, man what would an SRV Unplugged be like!?" Well wonder no more, it exists and is as amazing as you'd expect...thanks for all the great vids! The Radiohead list you were given really was an odd song list for a new listener - check out "Wierd Fishes' and Reckoner''- Live From the Basement" and "Paranoid Android" to uncover just why they are so worshipped as the Gen X 'Beatles' - it is legit and I am afraid you just got maybe not the best intro to a band you could easily lose yourself in for life.

    🙌👏🙌🎶🎸🎶‼️i clicked on as soon as I saw Harri finally circled back to Stevie Ray! And this is one of my favorites, I am sure I even recommended it. And yes, you are right these two incredibly talented musicians were having themselves a fine conversation between themselves. No room for ego at that level of musicianship. Just the pure joy of making great music with a peer is all the reward they need. Stevie was never happier than when he got to ham with all the greats that he had looked up to all his life. When Stevie first heard an Albert King recording when he was a young kid changed his life. He wanted to play like Albert. So this whole 90 minute session is magic. Albert loved Stevie like a son. Great pic and great reaction Harri🎉🪅👏🎸🎶‼️
    For a recommendation for something from Stevie may I suggest "Lenny" performed in Japan. It is a beautiful instrumental soulful love song he wrote and this is an exquisite performance. Most people would say do the El Macombo version and that was a very special one as well. I would love to see you react to the Japan performance. Thanks Harri❣️. I hope all is well with you✌️🦋

    Harri, this is the REAL STUFF, blues/rock at it's very best, fantastic reaction. You've got to hear Albert's "Born under a bad sign", now I love Cream's version but you can't beat the original and best. Take care kid and cheerio from Glasgow.

    Hey Harri, I remember watching this sessions jam on TV and being completely blown away by both Albert King and SRV. a few years later in 89 and 90 I was fortunate enough to have seen SRV in concert. As a matter of fact in 90 it was July 15th, my wife's birthday, I was 21years old and 1 month later was his horrible helicopter crash. I still remember how it shook me up. Anyway there is so much greatness to be seen, I can't wait for your reaction, but I won't spoil it for you.
    Thanks. Check out Texas Flood live at the El Macambo and you'll see. PEACE.
