  • Today we are going to learn the story of adjutant of the 1st battalion of the Panzer Regiment "Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler", how they were preparing for the storming of Kharkov in early March 1943. In his memoirs, he describes in great detail the hard tank battles, which clearly demonstrate the technical superiority of the "Tiger" tank ...

Max Wünsche would get the German Cross in Gold for his actions in Kharkov, after the battle, and then the Knights Cross in Feb. 1943. In June of 1943, he was transferred to the New 12th SS HJ Division where he would be the Regimental Commander. Survived the war.

That's right! The Germans had excellent tanks, but in the USSR they were made 10 times more. Have you noticed one interesting fact about Soviet tanks? They were manufactured from the factory with untreated welds! They didn't waste time on this little thing, they wanted to produce as many tanks as possible))

@@JohnnyReb-tr2fsworse, the germans had no long range single engine fighters. If they did, they may have won the battle of Britain. Without England the US would not have invaded Europe and Germany would have been free to focus on the russians. Either they would have won or the French would be speaking Russian today.

Think this only worked because of the discrepancy in oil supply. If the German had more oil they probably would have made more tanks and been able to field bigger armies/capitalize on breakthroughs/more industry etc. oil was the reason the war was one with tanks being a footnote :)
Very true though, soviets correctly leveraged their raw materials, industry and man power due largely due to the oil advantage

The photographs used in the video come from several different winters, many different places and many different units.
I didn't see even a single Tiger of LSSAH at Kharkov - which is supposed to be the subject of the video.
That's a shame because they all had the "black square" 5:40 where their ID number was painted.
It would be nice to see the things being talked about.
It's interesting that the journalist was given headphones. Panzers didn't have a spare headphone socket; he must have borrowed the gunner's set. He certainly didn't use the commander's set, and the loader didn't have any.

Anybody who wants to throw the "Nuremberg Process" in your face is an ignorant lunatic. No sane American needs any explanation about WW II. Even Gen. Patton is reported to have said that America fought the wrong enemy, and that's actually true. The problem is that the victors write the history books. The divisive history is always, always written by members of the religion that agitated for the War and enabled the Soviet Union and spied for Russia.

Germany at that time seems always use tanks as spearhead. It works in the Blitzkrieg, but later in the war when enemy has well defended position, anti tank guns, etc, the very precious tanks sacrificed. Why didn't they use artillery to soften the enemy's defense? We don't talk Luftwaffe as their scarcity of planes is well understood.

The Soviets where saved by Winston Churchill, though indirectly. On the April 6th the German forces where forced into invading Greece because Churchill insisted his General's sent forces to reinforce the Greek army in its war with Italy even though the Greeks neither ask for or needed such help. Hitler and his General's then had to invade Greece to protect their flank. The result was the invasion of the Soviet Union had to be delayed until June 22nd. This time and the forces and logistics involved would be vitally missed when we consider how close the German army got to Moscow.

@@daveybyrden3936 I mean, do you want to forget that this is actual fiction someone pulled out of his ass, I mean, it's like asking me how much historic value is in the movie "the dirty dozen" or "saving private ryan" and that's the first issue, as it proclaims the story would be based on someone's personal story. Therefore, you can flush everything the protagonist judges and rates down the toilet. This also makes all conclusions drawn from "his experience" worthless. Wünsche was the commander for the 1st tank-regiment, not just a company commander. When it comes to the Tigers. Well, the majority of German tank forces at the time were still made out of PanzerIII and PanzerIV's. In fact, 1st SS only received 9 tiger tanks in total during the 3rd Charkov offensive. They were organized in the 13th heavy-tank company. Now, we don't hear about tons of tigers in this story. I also do appreciate the technical breakdowns of the majority of their tigers mentioned. Than again, this should already be a hint, how much the tiger wasn't "superior engineering". The tank forces had lots of problems with them, especially in the early days. While some of its kinks could be worked out during the war, some major ones were never fixed. Regardless, on the battlefield the tiger was an effective weapon. The "clear technical superiority" is debatable however, given that only 50% of all Tiger losses during WW2 were combat losses.
When it comes to the storming of Charkov, well, the fact that this is fiction already tells you, that this is not what actually happened. Besides that, it's been the last major success of German armed forces in the east. The 9 Tigers didn't make the difference on the grand scheme of things. Is it a nice story? I see why some like it. I also don't see anything about the mentioned tigers, which would be completely bollocks. The problem I have with this is the assumed historic context. Some may not realize this fault, and go around telling people that during Charkov, there were these two tigers doing destroying 56 anti-tank guns, together with the 1st, second and third company or something along the lines. This is a story and nothing more.

@@rantanplan178 The nine Tigers of 1st SS were organised as its 4th company during the Kharkov battle. Their turret numbers all began with "4". It was only later, in the spring of 1943, that the unit was renamed as the 13th company.
Can you point to anything tank-related in the story that's factually untrue? How do you know that it's only pulp fiction? When he spoke of a "black square" on the side of the Tiger's turret, for example, that's the kind of detail that speaks to him being there.

@@johnking6252 wait what 6 months in the European theater? Better check that barbarosa date again entering the war in the Pacific has no effect on German Russian war. Russia may have not survived without America's land lease agreement this is arguably different then Russia paid with 20 million plus military personnel and some estimates go up to 80 million Russian lives in total and on June 96 1944 between June and August operation bagration Russian army completely wiped out Germans attack group center and had already battled back through Russia across Ukraine across kiev now we made it easier relieving the west front but who they had in the west wasn't hardened soldiers they was all on the eastern front fighting Russia. Majority of battles in WW2 happened in East Europe between Germany and Russia and was without a doubt the most brutal cut throat dehumanizing fights of the war. But after 1942 even Russia was mass producing its own equipment after relocating all of its industrial power to the. East which is arguably the one thing that saved Russia from total defeat. So yea I stand by my statement but if you have a version of how the Pacific war helped Russia in any way I'm all ears but Japan was asked by Germany to attack Russia in the east to relieve some pressure and Japan's response was after you take moskow, basically saying after you win we will and Hitler declared war on America after pearl harbor. They was in fact the worse alliance pact you could come up with, Germans themselves told Japan they was superior there wasn't much love lost between the 2 so don't see how that benefited anyone in the pacific

Stalin decimated his own military leadership in the 30’s because he was worried about a coup when he was starving most of the country with his collective program.
Fortunately Russia had a lot of land to trade and they kept retreating had Germany not broken the pact with Russia by attacking them and declaring war on America at the same time Russia would be much smaller today.
The allies were sending convoys of food immunizations vehicles aircraft by ship through the North Atlantic America & was transferring aircraft from Alaska to Russia.
This helped the Russians finally get their shit together to where they could go on the offensive.
