- In this video, we meet the CSX manifests Q580, Q582 (two versions), Q583 and the military train CSX W880 with KCS SD70ACe leader. Talking of EMD SD power: The most remarkable power lashup in the video is the trio of the heavy Tier 4 compliant variant SD70ACe-T4-H of the popular SD70ACe series on Q583-30. CSX designates these units ST70AH. CSX only owns 10 such locomotives; when can one see three of them leading the same train? This is truly a rare catch. Enjoy, like, subscribe (if not yet done so), and comment!
Love the newer location shots. EMD's are my fav. You'll have to catch the remaining 2019 SD70ACe's NS finally bought this past month. Should be in service by Spring is my guess.
I have already shot some of those NS Tier 4 Credit units in the past. I guess the ones you mention only complete that batch. But it's true, I haven't been on NS in a while. It's about time again...
God Bless our Troops, what an awesome Military Train to get this video started up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, this was a good one. Timing for this location was perfect, great light.
Great stuff! That KCS unit looked really good. Always been one of my favorite paint schemes, along with Conrail blue, Chessie's, and Santa Fe's war bonnet, amongst a couple of others. Those manifests must've been either yard emptying, or about to fill up somebody's yard! Loved the opening long shot coming out of the fog by that, for me, landmark mill, followed up by that really cool shot of that train disappearing into it. Excellent videography. You're right about that trio of SD70's and feeling like you hit the lottery. Top tier work!
Very cool, thanks! The feed mill in Comer is truly a landmark. I absolutely love it and accommodate it in as many shots as possible. We don't have any rail-served industry here, so this mill is the closest to that we can get here. And it's a quite rural area at the same time - it's quite relaxing to be out there and watching trains!
@@mbmars01 Glad I'm along for the trip.👍
Military trains are always exciting. It's rare to see a Dash 8 nowadays, yet there's two here. The Tier 4 trio is fantastic, you caught 30% of the fleet. Great action again, thanks for the quality update. I'm looking forward to your next video. Those are indeed excellent EMDs. :)
CSX has reactivated some of the Dash 8s while the rebuilding of the AC44s went on, but they are rare catches, of course. Yeah, the ST70AHs were fun to chase and to inspect further. They likely will remain unique pieces.
I find this interesting. The MKT hopper car at 6:44 on Q582 showed up in hamlet on October 30th 2021. I got to see this car and sister number OFOX 4186. Infact they were on Q582-29 when i saw it in Hamlet. Its funny how things happen like that!! Amazing video by the way, The KCS Military train was probably one of the coolest picture oppurtunity shots ever!
Yeah, I also think I have already seen these MKT hoppers multiple times lol. Howie is an awesome location. I have shot from this particular spot before, but light works best in the morning, which was the case for this northbound military train.
That is rare to see three SD70ACe's powering a train these days no matter what tier. Great catch and chase. Excellent video.
Right. One is already happy if one catches an ACe leading a train, but getting this trio of ST70s was absolutely amazing. It's one of those catches that have that "once-in-a-lifetime" potential.
Nice Railfanner!😀👍
I love it :)
This was a fantastic video!!! Seeing those 3 ST70AHs and many more! Sometimes I see them in my place, but I haven’t seen no military trains, but I hope one day will be something good like winning a lottery! Lol :)
And hope you had a very Happy New year Mbmars01!
Cool you like the video! I'm sure you'll see one of those trains one day. They are always interesting catches; they never look the same. Thanks, I hope it's gonna be a good year. Happy New Year to you, too, and stay safe!
@@mbmars01 , same for you my friend keep them coming! :)
I will!
Another great job MB, I love that KCS SD70 to start the video with and on a military train, awesome. It was good to see the 3 ST70's not only still on the road, but lashed-up together. I tried to catch them when they first came out and they were running around Florida on one of my many trips down, but never didi. Thanks for another great video.
We occasionally see one or the other on a train on the Abbeville Sub nowadays, but it's rare and the three-unit lashup clearly was a very rare catch. Nice you enjoyed watching this video!
Great video, the military train was a very catch.
Thanks, Mike!
I was more excited to see the Dash 8's. 🙂🙂
Awesome video!
Right, there's something in it for everyone :) Thanks!
Very nice catch of the ex-MKT 2-Bay at 6:44 . Keep up the great work!
I knew it would catch someone's eye :) Always good to see remnants of fallen flags still in active service. I will; there's a lot of cool stuff to come in future videos.
👍🏽🙋 Very interesting video, along 3 ST70AH leaders, crossing train with 5 engines ( I love those older locomotives #123, #68, 7001 CM44AC and the Dash-8!) Awesome 👍🏻😎
I also like these CSX AC44s, particularly those in the YN2 paint scheme. Nice you like the video!
Compliments to you sir. Three EMD's (T4) in a single lashup s quite noteable - these days especially! I would glady crew on that 583 :)
This was a rare catch, for sure. I'm not sure if the crews are so happy. From what I heard the engines are not particularly popular among those who operate them.
Man welcome back! Havent seen video from you for a long time. I remember those slo-mo wheels, the factory/mill loading videos etc.
Well, I say welcome back!! There have been a ton of uploads, dig through 'em if you want :)
Amazing work....Big LIKE from Zimbabwe!!!
Thank you very much! Cool to have viewers in Zimbabwe :)
Great catch on the EMD three.
It was an extraordinary one, indeed.
Haven't seen any new videos from you, wasn't sure if you had any or not, had seen some older ones, but not any new ones, I'm on the lookout for some from you, okay. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀
Well, I have released videos pretty regularly recently. If you subscribe to this channel you can get notified whenever a new video is online.
3 Tier 4 Aces on one train.. one in a million shot right here
Right, close to :)
Wooooow awesome vidoe
Cool you like it!
Great video, great editing.
Thanks very much!
Awesome video! Sad to think EMD may not be around for too many more years🤔😞
yeah I heard the same thing about GE 10 years ago, giving up on their locomotive business then they had a big turn around and are doing well, I just think that progress needs to invest more in the creature comforts of their tier 4s, that's what I hear more than anything ,nice power but a B**** to drive.
@Soulbrotha73 Very cool, thanks! Would be sad, if EMD goes out of business, but maybe they get back on their feet again. Who knows.
Those ditch lights on those ST70AH's don't flash alternately, which is quite unusual. Typically CSX locomotives have flashing ditch lights.
That's right, but I guess there are different modi for ditch lights and someone has reprogrammed them for whatever reason. In a future video, there will also be another CSX loco with synchronously flashing ditch lights.
Great catch!!!
I know, it was awesome!
Nice one!!
Cool, thanks!

Cool. Looks like I need to keep an eye on rare boxcars instead of rare power lol
@mbmars01 Tier 4 EMDs, I wouldn't say, are exceptionally rare, lol. Rare on CSX. And relatively rare compared to GEVOs, lol.
Another interesting fact is that I looked up the reporting marks on that boxcar, and a very old but still in service short line railroad now owns it - Laurinburg and Southern Railroad in NC subsidiary of Gulf & Ohio Railways. I never even heard of the LRS short line. Supposedly, it has existed since 1909. It's only 28 miles now - very short, lol. Mostly car storage services and some local freight.
@mbmars01 The Seattle and North Coast Railroad was originally part of the old Milwaukee Road. It was a car float / barge operation on Washington state's Olympic Peninsula. The line had no interchange with any other railroads.
As far as I know, only UP will have up to 100 EMD T4 units and CSX 10,; plus a hand full Progress Rail lease units exist. BNSF and NS cancelled their orders and CP and CN haven't ordered any. Several RRs ordered Tier 4 CREDIT SD70ACe units, though, but these aren't actually Tier 4 compliant. So I would consider the SD70ACe-T4 a rare species.
@mbmars01 I suppose so. "Rare" in current sense but nothing that makes me foam out over, lol. Sure, it gets bonus points.
From my perspective, that boxcar is more rare, lol. The "vintage foam" factor must be considered and is worth more points. The Seattle & North Coast was an interesting and unique railroad. Now, this gets the foam going, lol.

🚅Chuga choo choo I'm a train and I approve this video!🚅
Haha, very good :) Thanks!
I think the tier-4s have a lot of potential being 1010 V-12s and all, but they can be ordered with variations in their trucks among other things, I'm tired I read a decent write up on these critters and now I can't remember a thing, I hate long hours.
I think the major problem is that the American railroads currently don't need new power. GE captured the Tier 4 market right after 2015 when EMD wasn't ready yet. Now it's all about rebuilds and less demand because of PSR and all that. And with the customers getting more and more concerned about the carbon footprints in their supply chains the diesel era may end sooner than anyone ever thought. Maybe this is an opportunity for ProgressRail/EMD if they catch it in time.
A 4-stroke engine in an SD.....that just ain't right.
Lol
Isnt KCS 3997 a pre production SD70ACe?
Yes. If I remember correctly it was even one of the EMD demonstrators.
How much money do you make posting videos about the CSX, mainlline movements, derailments, etc I am sure Corman appreciates the lime light. Do they pay you anything?
Nope, nothing. Maybe I should ask them lol. The only revenue the videos generate is from CZcams ads and this covers only some of the expenses for equipment, gas, travels, etc., but it's by far not enough to live from it.
I know there's no more intermodal traffic on this route, making the Abbeville Sub more of a secondary main
The regular trains are Q580, Q581, Q582, and Q583, but there's also relatively frequent coal and grain traffic, plus the occasional special (military, ballast, high-and-wide) and multiple locals. There are often huge gaps, but sometimes one can still watch great action.
@@mbmars01 I can remember Q194 and I think Q195 handling intermodal traffic thru here but I know those trains were abolished long ago. CSX has been seemingly moving intermodal business away from Atlanta
That's right (and they even briefly ran a Q192/3 pair, too). It's sad we lost Q194/5, but since NS had an own Charlotte-Atlanta pair running and CSX basically surrendered Atlanta to NS after introducing PSR, it was only a question of time when they would lose this business. Only now it seems CSX is trying to get back some share of Atlanta, but it's not likely we'll get intermodal trains back here anytime soon.
@@mbmars01 They did indeed close Hulsey Yard and now handle whatever intermodal business remains at Fairburn Yard
Yea, I know.
They dont sound like EMD
EMD 21st century :)
@@mbmars01 those EMD's are way quieter. They also auto shut down if there's extended idling then auto fire back off when power is demanded.
