This video is PURE GOLD!!
My god! I am guitar player who was born a drummer. I’m doing well, but mostly playing singles, doubles and paradiddles along to my favorite music, Zeppelin, Clutch, Deep Purple. This is way advanced for me, but inspirational. Thank you.
this was super helpful man, really helped me pick up my speed
Nice, glad this was suggested i will be looking for more . Thanks
Amazing video.I did this 10 day plan, and not only this helped me in speed, but it helped with my concept of practice routine. Thanks!
Glad I ran into this video. Gonna start these exercises!
oh man, hey Mike i hope you read this, thank you so much man! im like a intermedium drummer and i felt frustated cause i just feel i dont advance but i know that it takes time to improve and i know this excercise will help... thanks man is really kind from your part!
Great lesson, thanks. Hand speed is something that I never really payed much attention to until lately and it's been really helpful to develop and troubleshoot technique. That said, I get super distracted trying to time myself playing and do everything I can to avoid it now.

Wow excellent, love this and thxs!
Glad you like it!
Went to Drum magazine website, bought the digital download of the April 2013 magazine. Everything is in there, cheap and better than trying to write it all down yourself. Great 10 day program!
Mike Ferguson could you tell me how much is it :)
I think it was $6.95 for the download. Well worth it.
Mike Ferguson thanks, cheers from Peru
Superb, thanks
Amazing video, amazing coach, this will help me a lot \m/
Cant play my ddrums up here so pillows will do an its great with these exercise been playing 17 years an always learning...thanks man.. felling the burn
If you play this back at 1/2 speed, he sound hammered.
I am working on this currently. The exercises, not getting hammered.
Lol
Love this video.
Great lesson Dr Wooten always says slow is fast its so true
I wish I had math teacher like you Mike!
for singles I usually play a measure of 8's on the right then a measure on the left and repeat . then I play 7's,6's,5's,4's,3's ,2's,then a measure of alternating singles. then I get technical and play them all over again playing a cheese on the last note of each set . Not necessarily for speed but they should ,like all rudiments,be played slow then advance to faster .
Starting today!
great stuff mike top bloke
thank you
Fantastic
Guys just signed up for this channel Mike is awsome and this really works.is there sheet music for these excersises?
Gracias!
IT, s good and it is effective technique for hand
everytime he said "alright, little faster"
My brain is screaming: wtf...
Lol
Just read your article in Rhythm magazine. Seem like a nice and very professional man. Sick of Jared might be time for change.
that room is heavenly
great exe / lesson
You got a new subscriber!
Weird, 4:45 I came up with that exact exercise myself a long time ago, because I figured, like he did, that I had to switch to a left hand lead.
thank you Mike! :)
Yea he has mentioned in one of his videos that the cymbals are all meinl cymbals that he can take out and try on the kit.
me too :) magazine, sticks, pad and metronome in hands :)
Hahaha omg he even says its so much easier without talking LOL but ya he says at the end all what he is talking about the toto shuffle a while back I really wanted to play Rosanna and hold the line lol not as much but that shuffle just sounded so go but I couldn't play it so I actually just played it reeeally reeeally slowly and it is effortless now at double speed for almost a year of doing so! This is all great stuff!
you're awesome!
"5 minutes!...or 3 seconds" Awesome videos!! Enjoying better control and speed :)
Hello wyatt from 8 years in the future!
Hey Mike, I love the concept of this video. I’ve come back to it several times but I’ve never actually followed the program. Decided I was going to give it a shot and start tomorrow. I noticed with the paradiddle diddle that it is felt as 16th note triplets. However only one of the three exercises using this rudiment are felt this way. The others are felt as 16th notes. Should I multiply my speed by 1.5 to find my correct percentage? Or do I just use the same BPM? I was messing around with it this afternoon and it felt incredibly slow. Thanks in advance for your advice.
been doing that first exercise for years. still an old favourite. for some reason though my left hand works a lot faster when i use traditional grip. but i find match grip way more comfortable... weird :-/
I know this is an Old Video.. But Love your recording space sir! Do you have any specs on how to create something similar in a tutorial?
awesome
question, for the warm up before the main exercises, do you play the focus rudiments fast for a minute, slow or moderate?
I wish I had youtube when I was a teen. I sloppily got fast playing to nofx and pennywise with headphones and I'm still sloppy because of it. This is really cleaning up bad habits!
Quick question. Is there a specific tempo I should be taking my one minute warmups at?
did everybody here reach it in 10 days? I'm looking foward to see the results... I haven't tried it yet, but planning to for my next practice
yes, trust him, that will bring you up
It would work best if you ordered DRUM magazine April issue, as the exercises he hasn't explained are in the magazine and have been explained on the Part 1 video, its basically a repetition of previous exercises. Hope that helps.
yes, if you get it in 5 mins, then you can speed up a little bit, but dont rush it. the point again is to build muscle memory so that means repetition, lots of it.
Hi Mike, i am practicing the open and closed technique at the moment, can this apply here also?. Are you using fingers only for this way of practicing as i am noticing that you are pulling the stick right back and playing it 2 different ways with full motion being wrists and then fingers when sped up.
The 8422's i do pataflaflas to help with count.. Cheers
Now I know what I'll be doing for the next 10 days.
Question. How long should we practice each exercise?
5:15 prrr prrr prcaa praa praa praa xD
I think I missed it, but, how long to play with my timer?
1 minute for each exercise?
Anyone know where I can get a PDF of this?
Which speed u advice to start with all these exercises?
Is all this written out somewhere? It seems really awesome and a sheet would make it way easier to follow.
Hi there. What brand is your practise pad?
where can I find transcripts of these exercises?
fuckin amazing... Drum Sheets available?? Thanx for making drums fun!
