They cut out Andy Samberg's final joke which was the punchline to the entire bit, where he suddenly drops the nice-roast thing and just calls Jeff Ross a melting hippo.

Every single time that joke always seems to get cut out of all of the shortened versions. I have no idea why, it’s the payoff of his whole roast

Norm was the master at bombing intentionally just to make everyone uncomfortable. The people that know what he is doing are dying 😂
@@bigrudd9346he's "bombing" with most of the audience who don't get it, that's why they're silent. They only start applauding later because the assume they heard something funny and think they're supposed to clap. Gilbert Gottfried had the same type of humor.

@@beppo2814 Bob said in his podcast after Norm died that Norm didn't like the idea of roasts in general and didn't see the art form in it. Plus he just didn't want to say mean things about Bob.
Pretty much an ideal situation for someone like Norm who likes to go against the grain anyways.

Not bombing so much, but telling Dad jokes instead of the really nasty stuff you're sposed to spew. And he never breaks character. My favorite roast.
Watching Saget choke up at a real heartfelt message from Norm is S-Tier. Always gets me.

When Bob chokes up and then gives Norm a desperate hug I remember that they are both gone and then I choke up too. So sad

Norm truly had that side of him he rarely let people see - showed his love for both Bob Saget, his close friend, and David Letterman when Norm made his final appearance on his show.

norm is usually great. but he was not great at all with these jokes here. that was not what anybody would call "laughing hard".
@@apauln All these jokes came from a very old speech joke book. They all knew this, that is the reason they are laughing so hard is because they know where the joke are from. That is why is reacting that way to the "well" joke. Knowing that and knowing he is adding bits to it makes it funny.
Norm is the best comedian for comedians he was not afraid to bomb in on purpose to just entertain his friends
Where else can you be very bad at your job and be considered a great? All those “comedians who love his bits” would never want that few laughs.

Norm's silence after the birds joke, like demanding the missing applause, is part of what made him legendary.
I love how the biggest comics were the ones laughing the hardest at his jokes. Rest in peace.
The jokes came from an old speech joke book. They all knew that and that is why they're laughing so hard.

Anyone notice how half of the first roast group is now gone. All before their time too. Norm, Greg, Gilbert, Bob... All were comedic legends.

I hadn't seen Pete's set before, like you said he absolutely killed. I knew he did stand up but tbh I only knew him as the kid that occasionally showed up on Weekend Update and the background of SNL sketches.
Norm. I love how he just pulls back the curtain on comedy...goes way beyond where anyone else would go, and it seems like only Saget and Gilbert were laughing. So much under-appreciated comedy lost in such a short time.
He was there for the comedians. Unfortunately most of the people on these roasts are not comedians. Bet the people that wrote the rest of the acts were laughing.

You’re right. I never realised until you said after all Therese years and I’ve seen the Norm MacDonald clip a million times and watched Samberg do his on tv premier. He’s obviously a fan. It is a bit of a nod to Norm.

23:05 these folks knew about Kevin Spacey for a long time. This roast aired 13 years before he got in trouble.
The beauty of Norm is that he doesn't even try and thus mocks the whole agenda, yet he achieves the goal of the whole sharade.
Norm at 5:08 is so endearing. He and Bob sharing that moment was beautiful, not to mention his experimental and hilarious anti-comedy roast.

I love how Saget is just on the same wavelength through Norm's whole thing. I have a friend like that where we just are in that same frequency. I hope everyone finds somebody like that at least once in their life

The most stand out set on here (imo) , is Chris Redds set. All i heard leading up to the roast was that he didnt belong up there with the legends.. yet he not only showed up, but had probably the best set of the night 👏 He deserves more props.
Dude also killed, skit after skit, week after week on SNL and doesn't seem to ever get any love. It's criminal.
Same for me. He absolutely killed it!! Surprisingly this is the 1st Iv seen of him so I never heard those bad stories about his set b4 I think he had one of the best roasts Iv seen.
