There’s no doubt DT has improved their overall quality but there’s something charming and nostalgic about the old environment in these older lists. Thanks to all of you guys. Now and then.
I love going back into the past with these.
Tom needs to bring back the moustache!

"Roll for lemons"! haha I love these top 10 vids, thank you for the time & energy you spend on doing them :D
Thanks for this video guys, lots of great fun! After a bad couple of days this hit the spot!!
I think it would awesome to see an update to this list. Plenty of new disappointments have come out since this video was posted ;)
They actually just did the same list a few days ago (maybe they forgot the already did this). And surprisingly many games are still on the list :)
lol, I love how a fight breaks out every time someone says "Agricola".
Really fun episode guys. I always enjoy your videos Tom, but my favorites are always with Sam and Zee there. It feels like board game night when I watch you guys. Keep it up
I love these Top 10s with Tom, Zee and Sam! Best part of The Dice Tower! Great job guys!
Zee's performance at his number 1 is definitely one of his best in the show IMO. I rewatched it probably 100 times and still laughing every time. Good job, man! :)
It's almost pointless to comment on something which has over 200 of them already, because no-one's going to read it (it's just too much). Anyway, I only wanted to say that I do love watching Miami Dice and these Top 10 videos, I think them three (Tom, Sam and Zee) work very well and make me laugh, I really appreciate that they do these recordings. Just for the topic, for me Agricola is a disappointment, it wasn't for me at all, so I'm with Zee on that one.
FYI...I, at least, do go back and read up on comments that I may or may not have missed. So, don't think that that posting is pointless.
Thing I was most surprised to see in this video: Big Red. Only soda that tastes like 'red.'
I come back to this video at least once a year just to hear Zee talk about kingdom builder.🤣🤣🤣
I'd love it if you guys would put the top 10 list in the video description, with timestamps... would be pretty useful when looking for opinion on specific subjects !
+Fred Methot They give complete lists at the end so you can find the segment you are looking for without too much trouble. Especially if the preview window at the bottom when you move the cursor along the timeline shows the numbers.
Eclipse is the number EIGHT game on Board Game Geek, yet Sam can't muster a single reason as to why he placed it atop his list.
My favourite thing is seeing your reactions to eachother's selections. Tom; you are so diplomatic!
at 35:00, instead of calling tom his game ninja nuns, I suggest he simply call it "nunjas".Your welcome, tom.
Completely disagree about Kingdom Builder. I am fine with the 1 card, it forces a different type of strategic thinking. The variety of goals and board combinations gives it a lot of replay value. It is a good non-direct competitive game for folks that don;t enjoy the "I screw you over" feel of other competitive games.
@@victorikkykawahara7680 Well said.
I love Touch of Evil. It is text heavy so that's fair but it does play out like a good story with friends and that's why I love it. It took what I liked about Arkham Horror and boiled it down into a more digestible time frame that I feel is less convoluted and plays smoother as a result.
Probably one of the funniest dicetower top 10 lists. Thanks guys!
Call of Duty Ghosts was my most dissapoint I was not scared once
Also no spooky ghosts
3spooky5me
Great and informative thanks.
I think you guy's should do a Top 10 games for 2 players. You guys put out informative and hilarious videos, good job.
Great topic, and another fun Top 10. My pick would probably be Tales of the Arabian Nights. I love random, and I used to buy a lot of Choose Your Own Adventure books. But my first and only run of this really dragged and wore out its welcome for me pretty quickly.
Keep going, Dice Tower!
From your brazilian fan.
Thanks, guys!
When you were talking about Lock 'n' Load and how there were so many rules, I desperately wanted to ask if any of you have played 40K
Agricola was one of my favorite board games next to Puerto Rico :(
Epic fart! @ 10:30
Great video. I was really dissappointed with Firefly.
I loved Zee's rant about kingdom builder!!! I haven't laughed that hard in awhile! Hilarious!! :D
Pilotstu I loved that rant of his too. :) Zee's the best!
Great List. My big 'dissapointment' would proably get me a ton of grief (not from you guys though) so I'll leave it at bay. Suffice it to say that it takes place in the world of Terrinoth, and it gets a lot of love. I think all three of your lists are fine, except for Zee's number 10...we really like the game, but we play it with a compliment of a spooky music playlist and with only 2 or three (at most) players. Doing a top 10 of games you were surprised to enjoy is good...make it so! :)
These are great at an hour long. People who want summaries can go to your web site and see the printed lists.
I love Co-op games and IMO Zombicide is the best cooperative I have ever played. If you don't cooperate and work as a team you WILL lose. I understand that people have different tastes but Sam's reaction to Zombicide really baffles me.
List starts at 2:27
Sam, you should try A TOUCH OF EVIL. Maybe Zee didn't have the right people playing that game with him 'cause it is not disappointing and actually better than Arkham Horror. My opinion.
Zombicide my friends and I find to be a lot of fun. There are game mechanics that as others have said can be tweaked to improve the overall enjoyment and "realism", but as a whole it is a solid co-op game that has tremendous punch IF you like the zombie survival genre. The game benefits tremendously for Prison Outbreak season 2 and the Toxic Mall expansion, plus if you add the zombie dogs that is a huge game changing dynamic. Overall for wow factor on the production, replay options customization and team fun in the face of the zombie apocalypse, it is a great game IMHO.
I apologize in advance, but many times I become disinterested in your "Top Ten" videos, and just cut to the end to see the result. This one, however, does not disappoint. I watched all 58 minutes, chuckling all the way. You guys are funny and amiable, and in this one that really comes out. It was amusing to watch your reactions to these disappointing games. BTW, I share your disappointment in the 6-7 games on the list I have played, and will take your word for the rest.
Are you guys the singers of the songs we hear over the coutndown numbers?
The Pathfinder card game is probably the most disappointing one I've played in a long time. The group I played with loved it in the first scenario, but when we got to the second one, it just stopped being fun. The rules didn't read well, and the goals in that second scenario were just difficult to achieve.
Junta is awesome! Only problem is that you can never play it with the same group as people tend to take revenge a little too serious. :)
We love a Touch of Evil. We never play it coop, but when you play it
competitive it has great pacing.
See we never play it single only coop. Too much Munchkin type plays happen when you play competitive. Drains all the fun.
My number 1 disappointing game? Terraforming Mars :(
Hey what are those containers used for Battlegrounds Fantasy Warfare that are on the middle shelf behind Tom throughout the video?
omg, Zee was awesome at 54:25, really good laugh!
Yeah, he has his Big Moment in many of these videos, and they never fail to crack me up! =D
Heh. "I POWNED you!"
Favorited part, normalising the fun in the room after opening the wrapping
I hav eto agree on Agricola. When I first played it a few times with my family I was so excited... I even got my own copy although my sister had one. I was planning on buying cool looking meeples because I thought I would be playing that a lot... then I played a few games in the non-familiy-mode and was upset: Instead of giving more options you often had less points at the end since your choices simply did not bring you far. Yes you had some nice "tools", and "jobs" but it did not at all make the life of your farmers easier. I guess you can make some pretty cool combinations but actually I couldn't bring anyone to play the harder decks with me so... It sits on the shelf and look nice.
My vote for Worst/Disappointing games is "Are you the traitor?" from Looney Labs. What a waste of a game. You get your roles and then on your turn you look at someone and say "Are you the traitor?" Really? My next choice would be "Forbidden Island". I don't mind co-operative games. But, this game really doesn't need anyone else. Just play by yourself. I like a little bit of individual player thought.
Great as always. Just I'd like to ask for one slight detail improvement... Could Sam (as much as I love him the most) explain better his opinions? His point about Lock 'n Load (too complicated rules) I got at the end. But why he was disappointed with the Battles of Westeros? No idea, no hint...
A Touch of Evil is still one of my favorite games, but I see where you're coming from. For me it was like ... my second thematic board game I'd ever played and I've played it like a hundred times and loved it soooo much, because I didn't know any better. Having played like 6 years of games since then, I can see why it would be disappointing but you're completely right, the theme is really cool and that's why it sticks around for me as a favorite. I really think this is a game that deserves to be "killed" by another game. I WANT a colonial horror old style monster board game that is good. ARGh. I can have fun with A touch of evil only because I have played it enough I can look past its flaws to enjoy the good bits. I wish I didn't have to do that.
I really enjoy Eclipse, but no one will play Twilight Imperium with me so I have nothing to compare it to.
you know, I just now realized that is basically a scaled back Arkham Horror, but I think AH would be better all around.
hey guys, im getting into the tabletop gaming scene and I was wondering if you guys could do a top 10 gateway or intro to gaming post. thnaks!
Tom's description of that one game at about the 33:45 mark was absolutely priceless.
Totally agree with Lock N Load's rule book. Maybe its how the rules are laid out, but I tried learning it ten times and then times I got about a page in and gave up. It might e a good game, but if it is I think someone would have to teach me rather than try to learn it through reading the rules.
Love how they say this game sucks! ...and link in video, you can pick it up here LOL
I disagree on kingdom builder. I wasn't sold on it when seeing reviews, but decided to give it a go at a local gamestore. I was pleasantly surprised. The combination of special powers and objectives which all change with the setup and the variable board makes it a fine game for me. I like to find which combination of actions work best and do neat tactics.
That one is so hard to judge. I definitely wont buy it till i try it. It looks cool, but it may not be so good for casual players.
I knew Sams nr 1 in the moment he started to explain. I watch you guys to often
I enjoyed this - sometime you really just need to vent... especially when you pay $100 for a game and... it.... just... sucks.
I brought home Super Dungeon Explorer - heard nothing but praise and excitement, looks amazing, but what I got was a game that seriously needed 1) a rule book, 2) play testing, and 3) models that fit together properly.
I don't know how so many people like this game.
$100!!!! Stink!
just sadness.
Oh yeah! I was about to buy it until I saw what kind of game it was. Not really a bad one, but seems like the good side is a lot stronger that the bad guy.
There was a lot of hype on CMON (Cool mini or not) with that game, and I was interested in it. I felt it was a niche game for miniature gamers that want a OP anime style dungeon crawl. And the pieces could be used for other games (like familiars or weapon holders, etc). When compared to other miniature games (that require assembly and such) it is fair priced (which is a bad thing for the cost of other games)
RoseKindred Agreed that for the price it's pretty nice, but the game seems unbalanced and that's sad.
eclipse has VERY similar components to Galactic Emperor (which I own). Is it a reprint?
Zee was brilliant in this video! Loved it!
I'm actaully quite glad Gipf is on here. I was really hyped when I heard about that series, and I found Gipf such a disappointment that I never played any of the others. Now I might have a look at Tzaar and Yinsh. Thanks guys. :-)
betrayal at house on the hill reprint did fix things change the clips for the stats fixed the underground lake and has a couple new haunts. i was glad to get the game since the original was out of print.
Help! im caught in watching Dice Tower top 10’s again!! end up watch all of them
From Tom's description, Rum and Pirates (or is it Pilates?) sounds like Ticket To Ride.
Top 10 Affordable Games. (like won't break your bank account)
Top 10 Simple Games. (easy to learn but really fun. good without being brainless. no longwinded rules, no 50 bits of tokens, no dozen sets of items etc)
I think mine would include Cheaty Mages, Face Eater, and the Pathfinder card thingy.
Cheaty Mages I picked up on a whim seeing it was from the creator of Love Letter. "Oh cool, another cheap light game I can bust out when going out to eat and stuff." Except it's actually a lot more involved, and really chance based. Like, yeah there's strategy involved in when to play cards and who to bet on and shit, but I never felt like what I did really mattered. At one point I bet on Skeleton and we had the judge who allowed anything, so we were loading him up with negative effects (Skeleton reverses all buffs on him), then somebody played a card to change him into another fighter. Which admittedly some might view as an epic moment, but personally it just felt kinda dumb. Especially since one of the other players had dispel magic in hand, but the rules of the game pretty much forbids player interaction, so countering it was not an allowed action. Plus it feels like too often people will be able to guess your game plan well enough to fuck it up even if some of the cards are played face down.
Face Eater I might actually enjoy, except they made zero effort to explain the rules. Apparently it's basically an expansion pack for Gin Rummy, but having never played that game, I was disappointed they didn't even have the courtesy of a header saying "I don't feel like explaining all this stuff, so go learn how to play Gin Rummy, then reconvene here."
And Pathfinder my friend and I went halvsies on thinking "Oh Cool, it'll be like D&D without needing a DM." Which, it kind of was, but basically took all the mechanical aspects of the game and sucked the soul out of it. "Draw some cards, roll some dice, YOU WIN!"
Hi guys, can you make a new vidéo with an updated list?
Lol Roll for lemons
Roll for lemons! Makes me think of what Cave Johnson said about lemons...
I agree completely about Cash N Guns: Live. Have tried running it multiple times, never really works out.
Did anyone mention Gauntlet of Fools?
ZOMBICIDE IS BEAUTIFUL
My thoughts on Kingdom Builder: I read the intro to the game on BGG and thought to myself that it looks cool. I took time to read the rulebook and it didn't take me long to realize that the game is lame. I never bought a copy and Sam confirms that I made the right decision.
What's the card in Battle Cry that Tom has a problem with?
I was so looking forward to Mad Zeppelin when I first heard about it because there are so few games with a solid steampunk theme...
Yeah, that was a pretty bad game...
Warriors with the Dragon expansion is actually pretty FUN.
I didn't really come across Kingdom Builder since I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. I finally saw the TableTop episode and I can really see what you mean. It's not a hand of cards, it's a card (why can't you see it before your turn?). The board is dull and I thought flowers were gravel. If I understand it right, you are being told where to go and laying down a line of houses every turn? It seems tactical at best.
What game does Tom mention at 12:09? 'One Fighter Dies'? I can't find it on Board Game Geek.
It's "Run, Fight, or Die"
Cheers.
one fighter dies wuld be a funny game name lol
Nice Ross Perot reference Sam!
Zee, i love Citadels also! I think role selection is my jam
My disappointing board game was cosmic encounters! I saw a lot of praise for it and it is great to have that many alien characters to chose from. Played it with my friends and it just bomb. Everyone was like "why did you buy this?" I was just crush and we tried a few times more but could not get into it.
Awww.... I really enjoyed this instalment... have you revisited this subject in recent months/years? For 2017/8 I think a Top 10 Most Disappointing but Beautiful Miniatures Games would be a compelling subject... ;-)
Speaking of Kaiju, are there going to be any Pacific Rim tabletop games? I loved that movie.
Touch of Evil is a pretty cool game. However it always kinda falls flat after playing it a few times. I liked it for being a simpler Arkham Horror but with a competitive mode as well. However in the end competitive just ends with whoever got lucky card draw early flying through the game and dominating. Coop is just a snooze feast as you build up as long as you want to be unstoppable and just murder the boss. Expansions seemed to change it as far as difficulty, but the game already took up a lot of space needing even more was horrible and really increased difficulty really only extended game time and didn't increase the fun factor at all.
In the end its a descent game when you don't know what all the good cards are. Once you do it is no longer exciting and just a battle of who can draw them faster and plow through everything.
This video ranks at around #3 in my most disappointing videos list.
When Tom does that movie presenter imitation, he nails it surprisingly that's the highlight of this video hilarious @ 56:45
The moment I saw the title for this Top Ten I thought, "Jimmies shall be rustled!" Slamming Sammy strikes again! Haha!
I'm losing my cookies over saying "losing my cookies". That's hysterical!
Zee,
You clearly played with the wrong group. Junta (classic from 1978) is amazing. Part of the game is getting into the roles and having fun. It doesn't take itself seriously. Respectfully, find some experienced players and give it another chance.
Around 8:00 I thought he said "Raman Pirates" until the box art came up :P
These guys are a freaking riot!
Kingdom Builder is a lot more interesting if you play the variant where you control 2 colours and you score each separately. highest of the lowest scoring colour wins.
Man... I was losing my cookies when Sam and Tom were talking about Battles of Westeros!
Zee, did you try the newer rule set of MoV? Eric said it's different from the old rules, maybe you'll like the new version better
Funny quote "Negative a hundred times as fun."
"What's he building in there? A Game? No." hahahaha.
Its called Monsterpocalpyse by Privateer Press.
What about top ten sleeper hits - games that started with no buzz but just kept delivering good times and became something great.
Roll for lemons!
Nathan Surgenor Time Stamp?
I don't think they can get through a single top ten without mentioning Agricola
Slammin' Sammy, Turbo Tom and the Zee Man.
Betrayal did update the game with the reprint. The components were absolute garbage, but they added more scenarios and corrected a lot of the typos. Did I miss something?
Merchants and Marauders - To long and there is no point being a pirate if you want to win
Lords of waterdeep - 2 hours of collecting cubes for no real reason
YAY Sam for Dinging Zombiecide: This is a shining example of the Super-hype that Cool Mini or not is able to create on Kickstarter (consistently).
Think the setup is good, and I love that there are different (distinct) characters, but other than that...falls short.
