I got them for diatom algae growing on all the leaves of my plants. In 24 hours all the leaves were spotless, no algae whatsoever. Simply amazing!

I love those little otos. I'm really enjoying your videos, the info is great and I love seeing what you keep in your tanks. I like how you give a personal touch to the care you give and why.

Absolutely great info provided here. I've been researching nano aquarium ecosystems for the past month, because I want to get into the hobby and these Otocinculus catfish are really fantastic and extremely peaceful cleaner fish. I think personally I would put them above invertebrate cleaners such as Amano shrimp and Nerite snails, even though I do not own a nano aquarium yet. However, as mentioned in this video; it's important to pick healthy looking Otos from the fish store and then make sure they are supplement fed with algae wafers, blanched zucchini and possibly some Repashy Soilent Green. These fish cannot survive on eating algae alone, either there's not enough of the type of algae they eat or because there are other tank mates that also eat those type of algae. I think the biggest mistakes people make when getting this fish is; buying already sick/skinny Otos from the store, not slowly drip acclimating them and then not feeding them supplementary foods specific to their diet. All in all; one of the best video I've found on Otocinculus catfish.

Hello, I love your channel and subscribed, I am from Toronto, Ontario and is a beginner for shrimp, neon tetra and plants tank. Need to treat algae eater for my 10 and 20 gallon shrimp tank. Otocinclus Catfish looks like a good choice.

Thanks for the sub! Otos should be kept in groups of 6 at least so for your 20 gallon, they could work well. If it's a 10 gallon, consider a Nerite Snail and possibly 2-3 Amano Shrimp.

@@shrimplycanadian Nice to hear from you. 6 would be a lot and I want the 20 gallon for Cherry shrimp only, maybe I can put Nerite snail and Amano Shrimp in it. Thanks.

Do you think otos (I'd probably do a group of 6 or so) would be happy in a 20 gallon tank? I have a 20 gallon moderately planted tank set up with about 30 neocaridina shrimp in it. My plan had been to get some otos, since I like them and they're supposed to be shrimp safe. When I think about it though, I can't decide whether my tank would be too small for them to truly be happy

With 6 Otos, you should be fine. I had 11 in a 20 gallon long with Neocaridinas, Neon Tetras, Harlequin Rasboras and Rosy Loaches. Couple of things to keep in mind is that they are love to graze so ensure you have food like Hikari Algae Wafers as they absolutely love that. If you don't have any, check my profile for a link to my Amazon store if you wish to order them online. Once in a while feed them blanched cucumbers, zucchini, etc. Don't clean the side and back glass as they will munch on algae throughout the day.

@shrimplycanadian lol nice... no I haven't been to planted aquaria ... I want to look for a reputable site to read up on setting up a shrimp tank and other info.. do a rimmed 10gal and most likely do a neo red cherry shrimp.. keep it cheap and simple for now lol

I did make a video on setting up a nano tank for Blue Velvet Shrimp. It was an aquascape guide but you can keep it simple for your shrimp: czcams.com/video/U6dyC9jr58I/video.htmlsi=8HeY3Q5dJffLj8Wf
I am actually planning to make a simple shrimp tank for breeding which beginners can also refer to if they want to have a basic setup.
