Hey Oli, great review. Based on this review alone I’m gonna pull the trigger on this one, or the new black version with SS frets. Cheers man.
I have the misty blue Pro mod dk24 Mexican made and it’s an absolute beast to play and the full shred pup is superb and I love it for metal and rock. I will change to a big brass block for longer sustain but l have had USA made and Japan made and believe me these Mexican made charvels are epic and won’t let you down at all. Personally I prefer my Charvel compared to my Ibanez RG550 Genesis. 👍🎵🎸
That is a beautiful Guitar,
i love this guitar, but a SS refret takes it's price up even further. It's the best looking Charvel though IMHO. So much so i've been tempted to buy it even though i hate Nickel (allergy). The pickup combo was smart also. Beautiful guitar.
Im about to order either this or the esp mii you reviewed. Which one do you think is the best? Yeah, i know, different pickups, hardware etc.. But just like playability and quality wise 😃 thanks🤘
hey dude is the top volume knob on your a slightly lighter colour than the knob pot? my volume knob looks like rose gold where the tone knob is the same as the whole knob
They are slightly different colour on mine
@@RolandPogonyi good to know! how do you find the pickups? when I use a high gain amp there is so much buzz, I've got 4 other guitars and they are silent with the same gain. ive had to use a strong noise gate with this guitar
how is the noise with yours? my pickups seem very noisy! all my other guitars are silent when plugged to a high gain amp but this guitar buzzs like mad until grounded, I have to use a hefty noise gate
Re-solder your joints.
I am undecided between this and the ibanez azn. what you think?
you'd really have to try them both out for yourself, they're very different feeling. The AZ neck is probably a lot thicker than you'd be expecting from Ibanez, it's not particularly shred at all despite what you'd think given that so many modern players are playing them. But the charvel is in my opinion way more comfortable especially for lead stuff
Hows the neck? comparing to the dk24 mim? is it thicker?
@@alexjackson8841 but they don't make Mexican ones with same walnut top!
@@alexjackson8841 I agree to an extent but SS frets are not a trivial feature, they're worth several hundred dollars over the time of ownership because you won't have to re-crown dented frets every 2-3 years, and the slick feel of SS is superior, which is worth something in dollars. Fender puts SS only on their $2400 US line. They're not gonna put SS on $1300 Charvels soon, not until demand for SS goes up and the industry figures out how to put SS on efficiently. Lots of luthiers just won't take your money to put SS on. It's ridiculous. Stuck in the past.
Are the frets Stainless Steel or Nickel?
Nickel
any chance you recall how the neck on this compared to the pro-mods? I had a pro-mod charvel that i really liked, but the neck was just a little too thin for me... if it were like, 1 mm thicker, it would have been the perfect neck I think.
it is thicker
Nice review! I would say due to Wenge being hard and can be brittle they probably didn’t want to risk wasting wood if drilling the side dots for luminlay. Another reason to install stainless frets imo. I also miss the cool angled input jack on the back like the other DK24’s. Harkening to more traditional Charvel customs I suppose? Cheers!
Want!😅
I think they missed the memo on ''figured'' when naming or picked the wood for this guitar..
Are the fret wires SS?
Nickel on this model!
I cant really understand why this one is so much more expensive than a mexican dk24??! Same bridge, same specs and it dosen’t have stainless steel frets either! So, you pay for the japanese name and wenge neck? I have 3 dk24’s from mexico and they are soo nice built so i just cant quite understand the price. But a really nice guitar though🔥
For this kind of money i would have exspected SS frets and better/different hardware compared to the already great MIM models. I tried several of those and never really liked the pickup configuration on them. The Neck PU is very standard, nothing Special. The middle one is very bright and noisy in these guitars and i just hated the full shred. It lacks proper low end sounds very thin and scooped out. Probably the worst duncan I know of. My Jackson MIJ came with a very authentic dimarzio super distortion. I would love to own this walnut styled dk24 from japan, but the specs are just not there.
Should be SS frets on this guitar otherwise it's not worth it.
