I went through it with my grandmother over 20 years ago and now it seems like I may end up going through it with my mother too. It is common that as people age they become more suspicious- especially if they begin developing dementia. But this scene is focused on her desire to be independent (even tho she is no longer a good driver). To convince her son that the driver needs to go, she came up with an accusation that would be accepted by many whites: he was stealing from her.

@@adelucas4824 : Yeah, that's pretty common. An old man, about 80, lived next door to me. He kept saying his kids were causing him stress, hoping he would die so they could inherit his house and the sizeable amount of money he had in shares on the stock market. Actually, they were concerned because he had got too frail to live safely on his own. I said to him "You miserable silly old coot. If that's what's worrying you, cash out your shares and spend it. Have fun! Hire a maid. Eat in nice restaurants. Hire a couple of high class prostitutes." He replied, ""Oh I couldn't do that, I can't get it up anymore." I replied, "Doesn't matter - they'll put on a good show for you anyway. So good it just might stand up." But he did nothing, his kids got him certified and he went into care and he hated it.
Disclaimer: I'm about as old as he is. My wife died from cancer 6 years ago. But I'm still fit. My kids are getting pesky though ......

I think he figured she had been sufficiently humbled and wouldn't pull that crap again. Telling Hoke, at least at that very moment, would have just sown distrust. Maybe he says something later, but since Hoke showed his honesty, there was really no need to bring it up unless there was some new accusation.

Although Boolie was kind of a self-indulgent Mama's boy, I pitied him. His mother was nothing but a shameless, petulant old crone. Nothing was ever her fault or her problem. She never took the time to acknowledge the frustration she put him through. Morgan Freeman's character made this movie likeable
