    Highways Update
This afternoon we met with senior members of the National Highways team regarding the A417 Missing Link Project and its impact on our Bike Park.
We welcome the re-engagement of National Highways and are now awaiting the outcome of our discussions from today; we remain hopeful but sceptical and we will keep you up to date as we hear more.
In the meantime, we are still very much open and would love to see you over the Easter holiday break!
A big thank you to you all for your help and support, keep the emails coming to highways@flyupmtb.co.uk.

I'll second the idea of getting more coverage. It sounds like national highways have behaved disgracefully and should be ashamed. Let the local papers and TV and the national MTB press/social media and influencers know so they can publicise it. It all sounds like they're trying to keep it quiet and railroad you, get out there and shout it from the rooftops.

  • @connorclarke2134

You need to get larger press coverage behind this, get some solicitors onboard? Amendments to DCOs need to still go through the standard planning processes which they’re completely ignoring. This needs to be big big news for a bigger affect on highways

    Absolutely disgusting!!!
They have no respect and clearly no interest in how this will effect people financially, emotionally, socially.
This is a life line for so many local people, to get young kids away from towns and essentially the streets. Get them active and enjoy their hobby.
The country is an absolute joke!! This needs to be put to the local news and massive increase awareness.

One of the key mtb parks in the country. It needs full support from national and local authorities to enable young riders to have suitable training facilities to stand a chance of competing at a high level. It is also a fantastic place for leisure riders too, for those of us who started mtb in the 80's, it has given us 'new life'. Hope you are successful.

My son is just getting into cycling and was super excited to have the bike park near us. He is wants to start a protest encouraging more bikes less roads. It is a reminder to him of the story of Rush and also what is happening to Long Table. All these amazing project that make our area so special and unique quickly disappearing or under threat even though they are so popular and successful. I hope you can find a solution.

What an absolute sham by the Highways and shows a total disregard for an honest, successful and important local business. Genuinely hope that they can turn their thinking around and put someone back in charge who is actually willing to listen and communicate openly. So sick of the dishonesty of these big organisations, it's so cliché. There will be ways to mitigate this and my support goes to you guys at Flyup. Get this message out there, get the press, the TV, local and national behind you. Whoever is watching or reading about this, if you have good connections in your network, please please get the message out to them!

I see on your website you also operate in the Forest of Dean? If so you should contact Mark Harper directly as he is the areas MPand very vocal about helping local businesses. I know the 417 bike park is outside his area, but as transport minister he should be as concerned as you are, especially if it affects a company that has interests within his area.

Highways are massive bastards and crooks.
We had some rather large trials just of public bridal path called Charlies Jumps, they was built by a small crew for years Highways silently went to council and got them Bulldozed without anyone knowing, ruined approx. 10 years of progress.

    Hi 417
I can see on your expression how upset you all are
national highway should’ve kept you updated every step of the way as you are a fully functional business & Not just that you’re giving people in Gloucestershire somewhere to go have fun safely exercise and thats not including your professional races and much more.
Unfortunately these sorts of big companies don’t see what they are doing same times to local businesses Around the area. They just see the end goal and try to achieve it in time & make it cost-efficient to benefit them and the investors / everyone involved in the project.
    Very selfish
At this point, I would just like to say thank you 417. You have come a long way from just uplift in the Forest Dean to a fully functioning Bike Park you should be so proud of yourselves in which I know you all are. You have put a lot of smiles on peoples faces over the last eight years.
I only hope at this point you have sent them all a clear message to them and they acknowledge what they have done And reimburse you all for the hundreds of hours put in that Bike Park
We stand beside you 417 Sad Times

This is horrendous news and Highways should be ashamed especially when they have gone back on their original agreement. I agree with everything that has been said already, you should try and get some national coverage of this and perhaps get some influencers on board.
I am sure if you reached out you could get the likes of Matt & Jono Jones, Sam Pilgrim, Matt Cardy etc. to come and let them make a video at the park highlighting your case. I imagine Sam would be very keen considering how he was forced to close his own private jump track.
Definitely going to send an email, Flyup 417 is my boys' favourite bike park and they have both been riding there for about 5 years.

As per usual the highways agency/gov don’t actually care about a project that brings people together to unite in a passtime that is good for your health both physical and mentallyl. Not only that you meet so many people that you would never meet. Christ I live in Croydon and and used to come down regularly to have a great day out and obviously then contribute to local communities via spending lots of money for food, drinks, lodging etc. I do so hope it stays open as the guys and gals who have done all the graft for years will be utterly gutted. P.s I’m still rubbish at biking but damn had awesome days there and long may it continue.
