👊🙏🙏🙏
This comment will age poorly, HC about to blow up
Clear, simple, concise...thanks Joe.
Always a pleasure seeing you on my feed Joe thank you 🙏🏻
Well, with this one video, I'm subscribing! Thank you for the thorough and clear instruction.
excellent guide! thank you coach.
Best video on how to use the trap bar thank you for keeping it simple.
I sent this video to my son to Reinforce form and function using the Trap bar, my 17 year old rack pulled below the knee 405 - on a traditional deadlift .
I have used a trap bar in the passed n got to 285 for 3 sets of 10 , to put it simply the trap bar combines the most power the full squat and a conventional deadlift into one piece of equipment if you stick with it I'm sure you'll come to find out that nothing else works as good as a trap bar.
My legs always grow well using the Trap bar - !
Having gone up to 360 on squats for 20 reps - I am a firm believer the trap bar works incredibly well.
Up your protein Boys n hang on.
Enjoy your lifts .
Good Information and nicely explained!!
Thanks 4 info, knowledge is power
Stopped doing conventional deadlifts and started doing this. In 4 weeks my squat went up from 120kg for 6 to 140kg for 8 - I won't be wasting my time on conventional deadlifts anymore ... Not a powerlifter. My legs clearly got bigger too, quads especially.
High or low handles?
Hamstrings are part of your legs. Now you're neglecting them. Do RDLs
@@Shvabicuhamstrings have the pretty same load from conventional/straight legs/trap bar deadlifts
@@Shvabicu 1/2 of bíceps femoris dont work in Hip extension, the knee flexion exersices like nordic curl are better than RDL and good morning for hamstring
@@vicente09a-g92 I do leg curls too, but the main muscle builder is still sth like a rdl
This was very very good explanation of good form. Subscribing now 👍🏽
Just found this channel n hope the rest of his vids are equally as good. Nice vid
I was thinking there's an argument that the Trapbar is the best expression of human strength and force production. Conventional deadlift and Sumo both take decent amounts of skill in order to produce great force as well as strength. Where as with a high handle trapbar you can basically take a group of random people off the street get them deadlifting it safely, get them learning it quickly and then have a decent idea of how much force they can produce through their body.
Talk like that will get a powerlifting nerd fatwa put on you.
I have a bad back so I’ve always avoided dead lifts but I just started doing traps and they feel so damn good. They’re one of my favorites now
Fr. I don’t squat much anymore since they are a great replacement for squats too
@@bennettblackmon2858 sumo trap bar squat dl great!
you dont have a bad back, you have an underdeveloped core and poor trunk stability.
@@bloatmax4420 what an idiot comment. I have joint issues in my lower back due to falling years ago from 2 meters on my back. I used to regular deadlift 250kg before and now regular DL hurt my back even on 120kg. Nothing to do with underdeveloped shit when there is spine/joint problems. With trap bar i can deadlift straight up without any pain in my lower back, so there you go. Trap bar takes out lower back pain for many people
@bloatmax4420 these comments are hilarious...no, he has a bad back. He'd know. My L4 and L5 are blown from...deadlifts in my 20's. These allow me to go way heavier as I can't have heavy weight to the front of my body. Have you ever had a back injury?
Very impressive knowledge about the deadlift. Nice tips
Great pro tip about the handle position. I never considered that!
Nicely executed and thought out.
Good tips. The best pumps I've ever gotten in my Quadriceps came from doing these standing on a pair of step-ups side-by-side (to increase the range of motion). Trap Bar can't have the secondary upper handle for it work though.
First time seeing this channel. Excellent. Subbed.
I am quite new to using weights, you have made it clear for me. God bless you.
Watching this video while sitting in the Gym. As a newbie to Gym I was always curious about trap bar. Good explanation sir. Thank you.
Nice thorough explanation of technique
Great explanation of the basic form. Went to these during the lockdowns as I have minimal equipment in my garage. Much easier on my low back. A whole different feel than leg press plus more of a 'full body' exercise; shoulders, core, glutes. A lot of great info on this channel. Thanks.
it really is great bang for time and buck to exercise a lot of the body.
Thanks for video!
I have short arms so I like using the 2" advantage handles. Thanks for the video
I appreciate this explanation of how to use the trap bar.
Nice video. Good information and no BS.
Awesome ❤❤❤ thank you brother
at 6 5 with 37" inseam this is a game changing approach for me. feels like a natural movement.
Me Too - I have the same mesurments - Trap changed my life - I feel zero lower back pain - I can really load up the Trap Bar and feel really safe
Same brother. I’m 6ft 3 and after a full ACL reconstruction from a Rugby injury I usually use trap bar deadlifts for my heavy leg movement over squats. Depending on positioning you can make it back or leg workout so I use it for both at different positions. I’ll do back or front squats for high rep work. Then a lot of weighted lunges/ farmers walks. Just feels so much better. No more low back / knee pain.
You're 65? That's old dude.
Thanks for this
Great video.
Good video, thanks. Wondering if you have advice for doing a deficit trap bar lift please?
I've been giving these a go recently as I've come back to lifting recently and had experienced issues with my back in the past despite being very careful about form, which I think were cause by some kind of hip imbalance. Anyway, they definitely feels a lot less stressful on the back the handles are horrible to hold and make my arms work a lot harder than during regular deads. Possibly because as a shorter guy at 5' 8" the angle of your arms in relation to the trap bar handles is considerably greater? Anyhoo, my lower back thanked me.
Thank You!! Great explanation all the way through for us noobies😛😛
This is excellent
Thanks!👍🏻
Best part about them is in the name, them traps gonna be getting some meat on them. I train early in morning before work and this is just a great all in one movement for gains on upper and lower body, working back traps core quads hams and a little calves all in one. And a great thing I love to do is a back off set and the end strait into some farmers walks with the trap bar
Thank you
Noticed you gained like 20k subs recently, Congrats! Do you agree that the eccentrics on the conventional deadlift should not be controlled since there is more risk of injury? Some say the conv deadlift is a concentric lift only..
Great T-shirt 🤟
Great instructional video! Seems to me the trap-bar is an unrated piece of equipment. I fine it much easier to use for squats, deadlifts and RDL. Thanks for sharing.
Liked, subscribed and rang the bell.
I sustained a full quad tear; 2 sx later and 3 years of PT. I finally have full ROM but I can squat with the hex bar vs a regular squat. I feel I get a better work out but will I develop the size squats gave for over 20 years. Any suggestions to maximize the teardrop without leg extensions. Von Monger and I had a similar injury but I’ve seen his workout and he is performing extensions despite the injury. My MD is wondering how I made a full recovery just need to get the atrophy out. Sorry for my long inquiry. Great show
In order to reduce axial load. Would not locking out / going all the way up be beneficial?
thanks
So i do leg extensions 60kg, for reps 10-15 on leg exstensions super set trap bar deficit deadlift stading on 2 20kg plates,
the trap bar is loaded with 120kg of plates, about 8-10 reps on trap bar what's your thoughts, this is about my 3rd exercise on my quad focus leg day
This guy is like if Ryan Humiston actually gave solid information.
😂
I like to reset and brace for each rep like I would a conventional deadlift.
Best sets x reps for a leg day?
This has been the main Quad killer on my split now for over a year, i dont like squats too much since im tall but this is basically a reverse squat minus the balance issues.
I am similar. It helped me put overall muscle on with 5x5s
Very very very informative! However, can an individual who suffers from scoliosis, lordosis, and kyphosis use the hex bar as a substitute for the dead man lift?
I’m 54 yo make with has scoliosis since I was 14. I have two curves and one compensates for the other. I used to perform conventional DL. My back hurt like hell. I had a trap bar a long time ago but sold it. My son is 22 and he’s starting to workout more. So I purchased a trap bar. I started light and went up from there. Currently pulling 320#. Not heavy by comparison but I’m trying to increase 10#’s each week if possible. My back doesn’t hurt anymore and I feel more solid. Love my trap bar!!
Hey Joe...Would you recommend heel elevation for this exercise as well?
Sure!
I don’t normally comment but have been a big fan of the channel for a while now.
I never ever thought of twisting the trap bar round. I’ve always used the raised handles….what a fool!
Thanks
But can I do them for mass though?
Do you do those on back or leg day?
Is this Ives from Tenet?
Hex bar really is a no brainer to use instead of the straight bar.
yep, only straight bar if you do powerlifting. athletes are doing hex/trap bar deadlifts only, it's way better for sports and have very low risk compared to straight bar. i would do sumo over straight bar too. only people with very long hands and (often) short torso will do well with the conventional deadlift, tons of people fucks up their back from doing it wrong for years tho. even with seemingly perfect form you can snap your shit up easily on the conventional deadlift. i have seen it many times, from lifters that did it properly (no cat back) and had 600-800 on the bar. some of these people never deadlifted again (disc pop)
@@lort6022 true. Straight bar is for competitions, cause they don't allow anything besides the Straight bar. Hex, and other bars are for everything else.
If you don't want to specifically get very very strong back, these are the way you want to go. They're more leg activated, but even that can be modified by standing on plates to get your hips and butt lower at the start of the lift. When I do my hex bar deadlift, I stand on a couple of 45 that are stacked, that way it gives me extra depth to my leg activation.
@lort6022 I sometimes wonder with all of the herniated discs and the back injuries from deadlifting - why people don't try to incorporate back extensions into their workouts? I'm talking starting with bar weight, slow and controlled, and progressively overloading slowly with the weight. This is just conjecture I'm throwing out there, I'm new.
TDL and RDL are for skill and form based fitness, trap bar are for functional fitness. Thats been my take over time anyway
"meat militia" is that his brand? I'm new here. Anybody has info on that T shirt?.
here for MASS
What are those black things on the wall?
Wedges for heel elevation
Please shoot some video for CZcams with Ben Pollack!
We will
Just finished deadlifting with my trap bar. I did zero bicep curls, yet my biceps are sore like I did. Very strange all the muscles deadlifts work.
That bicep soreness may be an indication that you're not locking out your arms completely, which could be dangerous for your bicep tendon. If you are locking them out, then the soreness is okay.
@@zee4125 yeah I’ve been doing this exercise almost 2 years now and never experience bicep soreness. Only thing that gets a little sore is my ass lol
When did David Arquette get jacked and grow a beard??
Man this fucking "Scottish hip" of mine doesn't allow me to conventional, with straight and braced back, I tried everything, gotta buy this bar
I've always enjoyed leg pressing the earth away
I just leg pressed the earth away. Next time you lift, can you press it back? Thanks.
@@eduardosuarez2414 This is how the world keeps turning
But Joe i can't do sumo with a trap bar 🤭🤭🤭
You’re just not trying hard enough. Feet outside the plates.
@@HypertrophyCoach 😅😅😅 u are right , saludos desde Chile !!
An alternative to these that doesn't require all the fancy equipment, is a split leg deadlift with one foot on either side picking it up in the center.
The straddling bar style is a bit risky, but once you get it down that can work legs as well.
"All the fancy equipment?" It's literally one piece of equipment that only costs $200.
Excellent stuff...but why are u guys always dressed in shorts sizes XXXXXXXL or something? Why are u working out your legs and hide them under a tent?
Cause they’re comfortable
And you wont tear your shorts if your wearing board shorts.
He’s out of breath
I purchased a trip bar and I am happy lol
