I was there nearly every weekend too! They played at Avalon the most, faithful to Chet Helms (or under contract?) Anyway we probably danced together under the strobe light! Thanks for posting this, it means a LOT!
The Avalon Ballroom was my main hang out, remember all the after hours jam sessions when the show was over. Musicians would drop by after playing the Fillmore & jam until the police came in to close it down. One night the jam session keep on until the cops had the Fire Dept. cut the power to the building.
The problem with a lot of bands in those days and still to this day is that too much credit is given to the singers and not enough to the band...The band is tearing it up and hardly anyone remembers any of their names, but everyone will remember Janis..Either way, they all rock and deserve the attention, but some of the musicians should get some credit too..
If you want to know more about those times and the band , read the book "Living with the myth of Janis Joplin. The History of Big Brother & the Holding Co."
I saw Big Brother & the Holding Company almost every weekend until Janis left the band & screwed up a good thing. I never whet to see Janis without them as she was going for pop stardom.
I remember all the members as they were one of my favorite bands back in the 60's in San Francisco.
great tune
