Etta James was born Jamesetta Hawkins Jan. 25, 1938 in Los Angeles, California, to Dorothy Hawkins. She claimed that her mother told her that her father was a white pool player, Rudolf "Minnesota Fats" Wanderone. She is an American blues, soul, R&B, rock & roll, gospel and jazz singer and songwriter. In the 1950s and 1960s, she had her biggest success as a blues and R&B singer. She is best known for performing "At Last". - Hudba
NOBODY can duplicate or imitate Etta James. She sang from a place deep down in her soul starting at her toes.

One of the best torch songs ever written or sung. Especially by Etta herself! Many musicians/bands have recorded this song. Most of the have done justice. But there's only ONE Etta! Will always love her and her voice! Nobody can match it!

My fiancé’s mom uses to be her personal nurse. He told me stories about he would sing karaoke with her there and his family would laugh at my baby as he sang. Etta would turn to my fiancé and tell him that he reminded her of a singer she new back in the day that would sing like he was before the pearly gates. The singer was Sam Cooke....

In 1970 I wandered into a radio station trying to pursue my dream of being a broadcaster. I was only 15 and the DJ was a black man with pointed boots and a 10 gallon hat. He invited me in the booth and spent the next year teaching me about the broadcasting business. That man was Sonny Mitchell, baritone singer in Sam Cookes gospel group, The Soul Stirrers. Sang on 2 albums and on the road for several years. Memories!

This song was one of me and my father's favorite. I was not old enough to see Ms. Etta in concert, but we are a family of musicians, and my father introduced this wonderful music and iconic woman to me. I just couldn't get enough of her singing. Her songs got me through many sad times.
Like Ms. Etta, my father has passed on, and I listen to her music quite frequently.

I was born in 1996, i've heard her songs since i was a kid. Never realized that she was this too damn amazing. Now, it only takes 2 videos of her singing live (it feels like i was a fool for not to consider that she was a fuckin damn amazing singer), and knowing that she already passed away, it makes me feel like i really want to cry out loud.
