Dear Teri, As always, I get such a kick out of watching you make soap. I feel like I am back in high school; you would be my favorite teacher. I always learn something new from you with each new video that you share. I have noticed that in your last few videos you had frozen your distilled water into cubes prior to adding the lye. That is a great technique to control the heat produced by adding the lye to the water. I also have noticed that you now use a disposable coffee filter to line the cup into which you pour and measure the lye crystals. I like that too! I chuckle when you speed up the video. Watching your gloved hands move fast as you mix and stir is so funny! By far, my favorite parts of your videos is watching you use your painter's palette and painter's scalpel to mix your carefully measured micas with olive oil. Oh, and I like how neat and tidy you are; always wiping up after yourself. And thank goodness you plan to release a video specifically explaining why you slant that ruler. LOL!!! I am from SoCal. To quote a phrase from my neck of the woods: " Gurl you got skillz".

Slanting the ruler ensures the easiest way to divide the slab into equal parts by allowing the cutter to mark on the largest line on the ruler at each interval. However, if you want a desired width, then you have to measure perpendicularly.

I tried using a water discount in my most recent batch and ended up with a mess because it accelerated so fast, but when I use full water I always have glycerine rivers. I'm going to keep trying, and look forward to learning more from you. You're an excellent teacher! And I really like the black in this. Your colours are always gorgeous. Peace to you from Canada. ☮️

Did you stick blend only to an emulsion was reached, then split the batter? You have to give yourself time to color your batter. If you need to stick blend after to get to trace you can at that point. Just make sure not to stick blend too much in the beginning. Happy Thanksgiving to you in Canada, Christine! 🍁🍂💕

Another thing: you asked about the colors and if we liked them. Don't judge that until after you marble them. I didn't like them at all...serious, except for the Fuchsia and Aurora Purple. The yellow was great, too. But, after you marbled, all the colors married well. So, that would be the point to ask if there is something different that you might have chosen for colorants. You did awesome.

Gelling happens when soap heats up starting in the middle and spreads out to the edges. Other soapers make larger batches and use a higher water %. Higher water and larger batches equal easier to gel. My soaps are smaller batches and lower water. Lower water soaps with smaller batches may need a nudge to get all the way through gel. Either way, your soap is fine. It doesn't have to go through gel. I am trying to avoid partial gel because I don't like the look of it. Also gelling my soap along with lower water helps to avoid soda ash, glycerin rivers, sticky cuts and it makes a harder bar. Here is a link to a partially gelled soap of mine. facebook.com/TreeMarieSoapworks/photos/a.751305801660231/492401444217336/?type=3&theater

Beautiful technique!! Peppermint and eucalyptus are also very slow and decelerate trace, so it's not just the lemon. 😄

Hi, Amy! I have people tell me that Peppermint accelerates. I never have trouble with it. Good to know. Thank you, my friend! 😘💕

@@TreeMarieSoapworks More than one person has mentioned this? I've never experienced that either! Makes me wonder if the eo was adulterated.

Yes, I had a few on my black and red soap. I use Pink GF EO and Peppermint, and I said this mixture is known to behave and I had some disagreements. (It was a video I deleted and reposted without the Pewdiepie reference because he was controversial. All I was trying to do was his chair pattern. My son showed it to me and challenged me to make it. Anyway, I don't want to be associated with that so that video and all the comments on the peppermint were deleted.)

I went back and watched this one, and your explanation of oven processing reminded me of something. I use water as 25% of oils, and I had been oven processing my soap, but realized recently that my soap was overheating (bubbles on the edges of my silicone molds). I haven't done much research into this, but my hunch is that different blends of oils heat up more easily. I use a combination of lard and tallow for my hard oils, so others who do the same may not need to oven process to get gel, even at a steep water discount. Has anyone else noticed this?

The black adds contrast makes the other colours pop
