Way back when there was an attempt to develop the economy of Molokai. after the plantations left and Molokai Ranch faded away, there was nothing there to pump money into the economy. People insisted on keeping Molokai “country”. As I recall, the community on Molokai records the one of the highest levels of social distress in the state. Drug abuse, poverty, etc. tragic.
It's time for change..
Exactly the same in Puerto Rico. Land needs to be sold and higher paying jobs need to be created or poverty will persists.
Ask Walter Ritte what he thinks about this. During covid he told people don't come to Molokai we have no covid. Then one of the residents brings it back to the island. You want to stay country then don't complain about the inconveniences.
If only there was a super ferry system that was ever considered, built, and not shot down by folks that didn't think anything beyond the tips of their surfboards.

The issue is who will run the ferry system and who or whom will fund it.

What if Mokulele just stops operating? Then what? How about building a clinic or hospital on the island and offer incentives for healthcare workers to go there.

It's the others' responsibility to make sure you can get to your doctor's appointment on time. Especially if you live way off in the country. NOT!

When you live in rural and country areas, there are inherent hardships that come with that lifestyle.
People in molokai need the health care and medicines to help them out...life line to health care should be an essential thing for the molokai residents. Flights are essential...put yourself in their shoes!!

Molokai has been fighting against development forever, every Hawaiian comes out from behind every rock and protests development. Than they complain they dont have essential service, you cant have both.

I been to MKK numerous times to attend their Festivals and the residents should get the same RESPECT as the major islands have
HELL!!! recently on a flight to Maui, first original time from HNL was 1145 depart to 150p arrive Maui, then about hr later, changed to 730am depart, arrives on Lanai at 830am.....then FINAL change 1 hr later (again..) 620AM!!!! to arrive to Lanai at 700Am......here's the kicker.....next flt out from Lny to maui, 1200pm, arrives maui 1230pm..........this was about a week ago. Even Security asked if I was ok...... the MK agent even told me to call the town cabbie to take me to get breakfast while I waited til 12pm.....

either Southwest would be operating flights half empty or they'd see a mass flow of tourists. I think Hawaiian Airlines would be better off applying for the federal subsidy as their name implies that they should be flying there.
