      If you listen to what Putin and his advisors say and write repeatedly, it was the plan all along. Ukraine is not a real country to them and the nation does not exist.

    • @Neion8
      @Neion8 Před 2 lety

      So Putin personally publishing an essay on why Ukraine shouldn't exist titled 'On the historical unity of Russians and Ukrainians' arguing that they are one people and the borders shouldn't exist doesn't suggest that maybe he wants to get rid of the things in the way of him doing that, such as eliminating the differences between them (Ukrainian culture) and removing their ability to ever fight Russia again via annexation? Are you really gonna say the guy quite openly threatening to nuke the British Isles out of existence (despite knowing full well what that means for everyone), has already turned several Ukrainian town and cities into ghost-towns neighbouring mass graves and abducted hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians cares deeply about human life or people's ability to choose?
      This isn't about restraint, liberation or anything else - it's a powerplay; many of the countries Ukraine feeds (bear in mind, it's a country of 43 million that produces the food for 600 million) are also targets of China's belt and road initiative. By making not only their economies, but their very ability to live dependent on the Russia/China partnership, they make vassals of those countries - which include Egypt, owner of the Suez canal aka the fastest way for European ships to get to the South China sea and aid Taiwan or any other targets of China in the event of a conflict over there. Should Egypt be coerced to block off or even temporarily sabotage the Suez canal, that could delay reinforcments from European countries (as well as European-stationed American assets) by a week or two at least, meaning it's basically whatever America has in the area plus Japan, South Korea and Taiwan vs China (since India is unlikely to throw itself into war on the American/UK side without a damn good reason), which is much more favourable odds.
      Taking Ukraine would also give that co-operative 46% of the world's supply of graphite (China has 26% of the world's supply, Ukraine 20%) - an important resource for batteries/solar panels etc which will be a massive market in the coming age - as well as making it harder for Europe to wean itself off Russian oil/gas, since it'll need Russian graphite to do so. This isn't a 'special operation'; this is the opening play of the new cold war/potential WW3 aimed at cornering certain markets and forcing the world to be more dependent on Russia/China than vice-versa.

      The Ukrainians are almost encircled at severodonetsk and lychyshank....12,000 Ukrainians is about to be captured or perish like the 6th army in Stalingrad.
      Ur right taking territory means nothing,but the Russians aren't trying to take territory,they are trying to trap the Ukrainians in tiny pockets,cut off their supply lines,starve them out and eliminate them.
      The guys at severodonetsk and lychyshank can't move because they are literally surrounded on three sides and the Russians are applying lots of pressure on them

      @@Pers0002 Russias behaviour and reasons are summed up by the Russuan minister who resigned.
      Resignation of Boris Bondarev May 2020:
      "My name is Boris Bondarev, in the MFA of Russia since 2002. Since 2019 to now - Councillor of the Russian Mission to the UN Office at Geneva.
      For twenty years of my diplomatic career I have seen different turns of our foreign policy, but never have I been so ashamed of my country as on February 24 of this year.The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia with a bold letter Z crossing out all hopes and prospects for a prosperous free society in our country.
      Those who conceived this war want only one thing - to remain in power forever, live in pompous tasteless palaces, sail on yachts comparable in tonnage and cost to the entire Russian Navy, enjoying unlimited power and complete impunity. To achieve that they are willing to sacrifice as many lives as it takes. Thousands of Russians and Ukrainians have already died just for this.
      I regret to admit that over all these twenty years the level of lies and unprofessionalism in the work of the Foreign Ministry has been increasing all the time. However, in most recent years, this has become simply catastrophic. Instead of unbiased information, impartial analysis and sober forecasting, there are propaganda clichés in the spirit of Soviet newspapers of the 1930s. A system has been built that deceives itself.
      Minister Lavrov is a good illustration of the degradation of this system. In 18 years, he went from a professional and educated intellectual, whom many my colleagues held in such high esteem to a person who constantly broadcasts conflicting statements and threatens the world (that is, Russia too) with nuclear weapons!
      Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not about diplomacy. It is all about warmongering, lies and hatred. It serves interests of few, the very few people thus contributing to further isolation and degradation of my country.
      Russia no longer has allies, and there is no one to blame but its reckless and ill-conceived policy. I studied to be a diplomat and have been a diplomat for twenty years. The Ministry has become my home and family. But I simply cannot any longer share in this bloody, witless and absolutely needless ignominy"
