Also for an impressionable kid living in an era where whites were almost seen like an alien/demonic race, he grew out of that just fine, getting angry at Mizu for more comprehensible stuff with each episode: -"You're a freak demon, you should die" -"You ruined my honor and my engagement to my bride, I'll kill you" -"You want to kill Fowler but don't care what happens to the government and Japan as a whole, I'll kill you after I save them" -"I don't need to be great, I just want to be happy". If anything I'd almost dislike Akemi for saying she did want to be great, but I don't see it as a glorification like any cheap modern "girl power" show would have done. There's a broken resolution in it, her relationship with the stutter guy reminds me of Margaery Tyrell of GoT, someone that will be glad if the man she has to influence is not an asshole, but ultimately her sweet compliments are a means to reach political power.
@@karma9340 I think only fowler and mizu would come back unless the second season is split between 2 plots because the distance is too great for any reasonable explanation that would bring taigan to London unless mizu's quest gets put on hold for a really long time like months

Also the voice actor for Taigen is literally the actor for Ben on 'Never Have I Ever' on Netflix, I can't find any videos of him in studio or talking about it, though. 😮
In my opinion there's so many similarities between BES and Mulan. They both: - Are a main female character and must conceal her gender in order to navigate through a male dominated profession - Meet a headstrong potential love interest who is lowkey bisexually falling for them while earning his respect and admiration through their skill and resilience - Have a narrow escape from a epic battle scene in which a plethora of arrows are suddenly darted at them by the enemy army Also, the character of Heiji Shindo reminds me of the character Chi Fu from Mulan. (The advisor who reveals Mulan's gender to everyone). And Ringo is like a combination of the three men that befriend Mulan in training. I also find a lot of similarities between this show pieces of media like: Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein' (a gothic novel), 'Brave' (a Disney movie), 'The Glory' (on Netflix) and 'The Tale of Princess Kaguya' (on Netflix)
