BRITISH PATHÉ'S STORY
Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance.
British Pathé also represents the Reuters historical collection, which includes more than 136,000 items from the news agencies Gaumont Graphic (1910-1932), Empire News Bulletin (1926-1930), British Paramount (1931-1957), and Gaumont British (1934-1959), as well as Visnews content from 1957 to the end of 1984. All footage can be viewed on the British Pathé website. www.britishpathe.com/
that moment when: :The past is more futuristic than the Future itself
Backyard Aviator once upon a time. There was imagination, hopes and goals.
Search up the CA 60 it's a beautiful dream that hasn't been completed
It was called freedom. Knowledge = power and the Gov wants it all
I agree with you,
The past is more modern than modern things today itself 👍
I know everyone just sits down and deals with what we have
Oh my gosh. The dynasphere is awesome. Why did we stop that. That's so futuristic right there !!!! Love that one
+Darvin Gramajo The torque in such a large wheel makes it very hard to stop and steer. Particularly in an emergency.
@@binaway
But, how about two more narrow wheels, like big bicycle wheels, one in each side of the vehicle. That would probably make it easier to steer too.
I don't know, but...uh... It would be a funny vehicle 💯%
@@oneshothunter9877 You have just described a tricycle.
@@George-df4uc
No! Only two very big wheels just much more narrow than these on this vehicle, No steeringwheel in front.
But I get your point :)
The inability to effective brake is a harsh mistress.
In the past : Future is gonna be awesome with all these
Now: wow ...the past used to be soo much more awesome
The future is one giant disappointment.

I've always wanted to die on a zeppelin or drive a vehicle with no brakes.
The Jet pack is still used and being perfected.
Bruce Long I wonder if they went VTOL if it would overcome the "limitations of the human form" or whatever?
Jordan Lawton dude, only a burning fuel can make push or a thrust. if it is solar power how would it fly? By attaching a fan?
Saral Thakur magnets can do it too
+darthgamer79 Yes. Maybe so. But do you know what magnets need? Something to repel against.
Terrafugia plans to release the first commercially available flying car model in 2021 and it uses helicopters to propel itself to the air. Megnets need metal floors and magnetic flying devices would only go up by a few feet.
Thanks to everyone for your suggestions for next month's theme! We've read and considered every single one. Some we've pencilled in for future months, others we just don't have the footage for, sadly. Announcement of the new theme to follow. All best, BP.
We're pleased to announce that next month's theme will be BOMBS, for July will mark 70 years since the first atom bomb exploded in a New Mexico test. Look out for the teaser on our channel next week.
It's Day 3 of our Transport Month! And our latest video is a look back at some transport inventions that we'd like to see make comeback.
Do you propose like..
Extracurricular exercises for your social-media engagement, as well?
haha the first one the monowheel looks a bit like the form of transport mr garrison invented in south Park
Tom tonka I was looking for someone to say that
Ouch
It's also in Men In Black
It still exist a filipino from south re invented it.

What's the deal with the jet pack?
That guy seemed to fly pretty well I thought? Surely by now it should be available?
Exactly it's like 2015 and they say it's impossible
It's a problem if it's windy and it requires lotsss of fuel
Larry hoover Doesn't glide well when the fuel runs out...
@@ajivins1 ...which happens after about half a minute with the usual hydrogen peroxide jetpacks.
Another version of the jet pack was developed a few years ago and while it worked perfectly indoors it was highly susceptible to wind currents and they tended to try to fly close to the ground because there was no safety mechanism for the flyer if the engine cut out at 200 feet. So it looked good, but was not practical.
I wonder if the monowheel had the same controls as Mr.Garrison's IT.
this is the comment i was searching for
Only In Brighton.
First thing I went and looked for 😂
Whoa, it's so crazy to think that we have invented the jetpack already! It's still being used, it's not publically available yet!
The problem with the jetpack is endurance. The fuel runs out in less than two minutes. Carrying enough fuel for practical flight times would make it too heavy for a person to use. Unless they solve that problem, it will remain just an interesting gimmick used in movies and publicity stunts.
@@maxkronader5225 the jetpack is used as of now and it works very well. marines and SBS use it to board ships.
@@maxkronader5225 who cares? just refuel on the ground every minute or so, just use it for fun
@@maxkronader5225maybe use fuel tanks that can be discarded like rocket stages to reduce weight
What ever happened to airships, hover scooters, dynaspheres and flying saucers?
British Pathé I WANT ZEPPLINS BACK, if they didn't catch on fire easily
GamePlayWithNolan Why? Incredibly slow and effected by weather conditions compared to planes.

Imagine pulling up to your destination in your new monowheel. You apply the breaks, but instead of stopping you just keep rolling because your basically a run-away tire.
I flew on a Zeppelin a couple of years ago. They fly regularly around Friedrichshafen.
They aren't rigid airships anymore though, which is what a Zeppelin actually is.
Yeah, research!
Most of these vehicles are still around in one shape or another, Dynosheres are still made, the Zepplin is set to make a comeback, hover bikes are still being tested and improved etc etc...
Land yatchs do exist and there is a sport based on it!!!!!!
***** Tell me more about the zeppelin comeback.
I'm an airship fan and when I heard they were looking to make a comeback, I got quite excited. They are a very green way to transport goods and people around the world.... As well as being ideal centres for medical aid in difficult parts of the world. Imagine transporting a hospital facility and not needing a airport and can take aid straight to the people that need it!
***** That's very exciting! But they need to make more massive ships that can hold MUCH more people and(or) cargo.
The problem is helium. Once thats solved then bigger Airships... Read Sky Lords.

It is always interesting to think of people's misguided thoughts on how to use a new invention. For instance, The telephone was first viewed as a "voice telegraph," and "idle chatter" was discouraged since they thought of it as a business-only device. Other odd ideas included using Television during World War II to guide bombs or (in the US) thinking of a 1939 RCA "home fax machine" where the user would set it to receive a newspaper facsimile from midnight to 6am. [They forgot to consider that it was a lot cheaper to have a normal newspaper delivered rather paying hundreds of dollars for a machine to give you a poor copy. And let us not forget that "someday, everyone will have a helicopter in their driveway." [I sure would hate to live in LA or London if that were so -- crash, the traffic!!] Just look in old copies of Popular Science or Popular Mechanix to see how we saw the future....
nice,i liked the jet pack and the single wheel thing.the hover crafts were cool too.thank you very cool and interesting
Each one of the vehicle shown in the video is a great innovation. You can make a separate video for all
4:42 I want one
same
I like the dynasphere very futuristic 1930
FANTASTIC!
Thanks for sharing.
Great video 👍
1:00, monowheel circles beautifully as narrator says it can't steer
Malfunction?!?
This does put a smile to my face
The last one was really good and would've been perfect for everyday uses
Given how garbage most drivers are these days I wouldn't trust someone flying over my head. Plus if there's a malfunction you're instantly either dead or crippled being a burden on your family for the rest of your life causing your wife to cheat on you, then she gets the house and kids and you have to pay morgage and child support leading you to a life of drug addiction and eventually suicide.
@@Simp_Zone Jesus christ... you could've left it at being a burden man.
But yeah I agree
This channel kicks ass!
4:01 Stolen german technology from WW2 (Operation Paperclip).
Please elaborate.
Very Good!
Terrific video
Excellent!
if that 1st giant wheel vehicle ran over a poop, it will be all over your face :s
Exactly!
Imagine if you were going 70 and hit the brake? The wheel may stop turning but you wont...that would be one heck of a ride! Hope you are buckled in...
I saw a Monowheel at the Arlington Parade..
..Neat....
Mind blown! Forget "Back to the Future" I'll get a hoverboard from the past!! Lol
The first vehicle appeared in MIB3.
True. And that's interesting because it didn't appear much anywhere else before.
“Men In Black®”?!?
This is great! I expected to see the Ekranoplan feature in this list.
Thanks!
That jet pack flight and landing was very smooth
Inspiring.
I wondered about the monowheel! Cool
Really good
Very interesting 🌻
Mr. Garrison is a brilliant man indeed.
Thanks
The jet pack no longer "exists" because that would be too much mobility for civilians. You could easily infiltrate restricted areas such as a country's borders, prison fences / walls, etc.
Motion/Heat detection on invisible fence lines prevent that, same set up they use for unwanted drones.
0:26 Ah yes, the original gyrosphere
The Land yacht is still being used in flat areas as they still hold races sometimes.
We used to use the Land Yacht racing in the desert in Arizona. The Ice version is still in use in the Northern Lakes during winter.
Please make more videos like this
amazing
Incredible
4:24 The Hover Scooter. There are many hovercraft. A Formula 1 racing hovercraft.
The first one looks very fun and the other vechiles looks amazing :D
Virtually all of these with the exception of the “flying platform” and “Denise” (because of her retirement) continue to exist to this day.
they still tricycle yacht in Leucate, the home of sea/beach sail/kite surfing since the 1970s
Nice..!

One of the Hiller flying platforms is on display at the Hiller museum in San Carlos, California. Along with it is a folding compact helicopter they also made for pilot rescue. I believe they also have Hiller Hornet pulsejet powered helicopter as well. Interesting museum and very good.
All of those vehicles look like death traps. Still the creativity is enchanting.
1. Dyna something - still being made and its being used.
2. Zeppelins are also being made and used today
3. Sail cars - also being manufactured and used
4. Similar platforms exist today
5. Submarines such as this exits today
6. Exists today
7. Exists today
8. Exists today
Linus Magnus blimps not zeppelins
The zeppelin, is coming back, in a more modern form, read about it a little while ago. Looks impressive.
Looks futuristic
Maurice Moss, from IT Crowd, is that your voice ? :)
Did someone notice the underwater kid in 3:27 ? o.O
it does look likea kid, indeed, but it isnt, you can see by the shadows later, if it wasnt already obvious
Not a kid

"Hoverscooter" - The original Princeton X-2 "Airscooter" exists and is on display at the American Helicopter Museum in West Chester PA, USA. The other Scooter shown flying over a field was last in the ownership of The Smithsonian Institute. It's current status is unknown.
Nice vedio
I think some of that stuff will be brought back later on in the near future.
British Pathe - Hovercraft both Commerical and Recreational still EXIST in 2021.
I want to fly in a zeppelin so unbelievably bad also the flying platform is pretty awesome to
Next month could you do classic comedy acts or interviews with classic comedy troupes/actors/so forth?
NO.
I love this dynasphere I wanna own and ride one
I like the woman at the beginning.
"Gravity itself is our motive power and pulls us along"
If you don't know what you're talking about dear, shut up."
I didn't think the monowheel from Men in Black 3 was real, TIL it was, crazy!
Quite futuristic
The Dynasphere...used in MIB 3. :)
nice
Jetpacks are still around but what makes them impractical is that they only carry about a minute of fuel. A recent variation is essentially a large firehose taking the place of the jetpack with unlimited water thrusting the person into the air over a lake or ocean
Waaaaow.... Classic monowheel
Incrível! 😳
Amazing so long time ago
Thank goodness for _Grand Theft Auto; San Andreas_ because it's the closest I'll ever get to flying a jetpack. With regard to flying cars, a modified four propped drone should take care of that, surely?
yup, look at Dubai police cars
Mto bom
Goddamnit, I want a Dynasphere.
BRING IT BACK.
Its most likely not to happen any time soon.
I want that flying platform!!!
Jet pack still exists
That thumbnail looks like Mr. Garrison’s “IT Bike.”
Woow!!!
OQ ACHAMOS É MODERNO HOJE JA EXISTIA ANTIGAMENTE, FROM BRASIL
I like the "South Park" version of the mono wheel. For its send up, not for the self desire for such things. ;-)
Wow , damt wish to be back then:))
Where from you got the video footages?
