The chemistry between Charlie and Alan was the reason this show was so great, in fact when Sheen left the show turned into a complete disaster, I like to think that season 7 or 8 is the last one

The lead left the show and almost cost a bunch of people their jobs. Kutcher might not have been great, but kept people getting paid.
