My trimmer is about a year old and like others I've never been shown how to restring it until now BUT I can't get the head to turn while trying to line up the holes with the arrows. What's the trick, it won't turn at all; do you turn a certain direction or maybe pull up or push down while trying to turn? Any help would brighten my day.

I'm a 51-year-old woman, whose son bought one of these for her after tossing her old one across the yard in frustration. (That one was a Bolens and he replaced the carburetor, lines, spark plug, bulb and pull cord and it still took a solid 10 minutes to get running.) This thing is the EASIEST to start and to rethread, EVER.
I brought up this video to remind me what he showed me on rethreading since it's the first time I needed to and he was exhausted from working in the heat and I didn't want to bug him.
This video is now in my favorites and made me feel very accomplished.
(My son, an adult who doesn't live with me, would gladly have just done all my trimming for me but I actually enjoy the satisfaction of tidying the yard with a weedwhacker. Also I am married and my husband does the mowing but hates weedeaters because he never experienced one so easy to start and rethread as this. Just don't want anyone thinking "why didn't your son do it for you?")
    Anyway, thanks for the video!!!

You used it for three years and you just ran out? I am thinking I used it a lot harder than you do therefore consumed a lot more line faster than you. I hit many obstacles and had to use the bump feed many times on my first day and consumed all the line. That's OK as I am pleased with the performance of this line trimmer and it is easy to reload new line.

I put it down to read instructions and load later after I finished mowing the yard. Well my 9 year old said he could probably load it for me. I told him to wait and I’ll help. Thank you for posting this video! My brand new trimmer sucked the line back up in the trimmer head with about 10' line still on the spool so I had to disassemble the trimmer head to get it out. When I put the new line on it I couldn't wind it on the spool. I took it apart again and noticed that the spool had L on one side and R on the other side so I knew there a correct way to install it. I called ECHO customer service and they didn't have any idea how to install the spool. This video saved me a lot of aggravation. When I took the trimmer head apart I found that I had installed it with the R side down which is upside down. When I installed the spool with the L side down I was able to easily load the new line.

the drive. Never thought I would get it out. When I managed to pull all the cable out, it didn't faze it at all. The drive shaft, the spool, nothing was out of round as a result, no eccentric spinning. I leave the speed control about mid way on the dial most of the time, putting a rheostat between the battery and motor is a great idea to suit the task, heavy or light. Very pleased with the purchase.

Thanks so much! So silly how unclear it is which side of the spool goes up. Your explanation cleared it up for me. I took a white paint pen and wrote it on the spool permanently. Really appreciate this!

Excellent instructions - it worked perfectly on my echo trimmer. Took me 30 seconds, and probably saved me a half an hour of grief. Two thumbs up 👍👍

Thank you sir! I own a large equipment construction service company. Most things just make sense so I do not read instructions. In this case a neighbor lady was left to take care of her children. I asked what I could do to help. She said she needed her lawn mower working and her trimmer fed with line. She did not have the instructions and this made it very easy. You did not just help me, you helped a single mother in need. God bless you sir, and I am sure he will. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for the quick tutorial! I bought my new Echo SRM-225 about 3 months or so ago. Before I purchased it, the sales rep showed me how to replace the line, but I couldn’t remember for the life of me on how to replace it. Today is the first time I’ve had to replace the line. A quick Google search lead me straight to this video, and, I have to say, it was straight and to the point. I had no issues! Thank you for spending the time making this quick tutorial!

As my daughter would say, "this is game-changing"! I cannot believe I have been winding string with the top off and trying to feed it thru while keeping the string tight on the spool only to have it come loose. I could go on and on. WOW!!! I just went to my shop (9:45 pm) after watching this video to see if it would work on my old Echo GT-200R and it does. I put string on in less than 5 mins. I bet over the weekend I had to stop 10 times and restring! (Guess why I went looking for a better way?) Sir ...you and your video are awesome! Thank you so much!!!

I have had my Echo SRM 225 for a few years now. Never read the owner's manual. A neighbor saw me using it and asked how I liked the speed feed head... I said "What?!!" Yup, I have been wrapping string the "old fashioned way" for all this time. Thanks for the video.

After loading about 15' of string on two tries, the entire length flew out of the head both times. The manager at Home Depot said that it appeared that I didn't have the little white collar aligned correctly where the spool is seated. He loaded some string for me at the store, and it works just fine. Hopefully I will be able to correctly do the process next time on my own. Congrats on a great video.
