I met Bob Seger In Northville Michigan a few times. He would pull up in the silver bullet band bus and stop at McDonald's restaurant after his tour or just before taking off on the road to start one. He bought me a burger 2 times. I was probably 6/7 years old, nice guy. His music has spanned at least 3 generations.
This song reminds me of my high school boyfriend, he left NY for Cali when I broke up with him because I was just too young to stay pinned down. I never saw him again. It turns out he was the best boyfriend I ever had. You live and learn that hindsight really is the clearest view.
I was blessed to see him perform in the 70’s. The saxophone player swung out over the audience playing his heart out. Thank you for reacting to who I consider the “Boss”.
Alto Reed was in my dental office a while back and much to my surprise he brought the sax from this song. He played this song and the whole office, patients and staff went nuts. He was a great guy and is missed. Rest In Peace.
True story: when I was in college, a girl who lived in my dorm was dating Bob's guitarist. Most folk didn't know anyone in the band other than Bob Seger and one day he came to pick her up wearing a jacket that read "BOB SEGER AND THE SILVER BULLET BAND GUITARIST" on the back. I thought to myself you know, without that jacket, I'd never pick him out of a crowd. ;)
He's an amazing singer. The song is basically about how tough it is to be a rich, famous, hugely successful rock star and he manages to get you to feal sorry for him. That's talent!
Was born in '75 but I never heard this until the early '90s. I still feel it. I never listen to it once or twice, I have to listen to it at least 7 or 8 times in a row.
I saw him twice in concert, and he sounded EXACTLY like this both times. This song brought down the house both times, the second concert the whole place sang along with him. He got a standing ovation after this song, which was not the last of the concert, for several minutes both times. Class act with enormous talent...

back in 1976, after discharge from the Army, I rode my bicycle from Detroit to Ft Huachuca, Arizona, roundtrip, and being a Bob Seger fan since 1965, I had this tune in my mind for the 5,000 mile trip... When I went into restaurants and would feel these thoughts, I tried to stay clean and worked for a meal when I would do dishes or wash windows. I have personally known Bob all these years and he was always helpful when I wanted to cheer up a cancer patient, with maybe an autograph or a photo... to let them know he wanted to cheer them up. I wish him all the best, now that he has retired, and hope he and his family are doing well. God Bless Bob and Cheers, JP Bear, Plymouth Michigan.

R.I.P. Alto Reed, saxophone and friend for Bob for over 20 years. The songs Bob Seger has written {and performed} could stand on their own as poetry. His unique choice of words or phrases always say exactly what he wants the song to say.
He was diagnosed with throat cancer and disbanded. He was absent for several years. Dr had told he might not be able to speak let alone sing due to the harsh radiation and chemo. He survived, made a strong come back and still sounded GREAT! Voice was just as strong as before

I've wondered if the metal bands in the next generation were angry because there was no where left for dreams. Everything moved west, and by the 80s, where could you go?
I grew up hearing Bob Seger singing in clubs as a kid, hanging outside of doors around Metro Detroit Area in the 60's. My son has seen him live at least 15 times. He's awesome
If you can ever get to see this man in concert, Please GO you will not be disapointed. So, So glad I get to see him back in the 1979. One of the Greatest singers and songwriters of all times.
His voice really conveys how tiring and draining being a traveling musician can be
Andrew Miller BUT HE STILL TOURING!!!
I’ve seen him 15 times, It’s like CHURCH! 😀
Back before he made it BIG BIG, Bob used to do an insane amount of dates per year (upwards of 250, if I remember correctly).
True that ❤️
When this came out thought I would live forever but I know different now wish I could go back
Alto Reed. His sax player. Is a beast on sax. He has been with Bob for years.
He was great. One of many we lost in 2020...
Thankful i had the chance to see the farewell tour ,great show but this one song was wrth it
It’s too bad he passed recently... he was a true sax legend.🙌🏼
Was the guys name really 'Alto Reed'? Maybe the best name for a sax player I've ever seen
@@jaythompson5102 it sure was Alto Reed and he IS the sax player.
The first time he stopped I was like “oh you just wait! Get ready for it.” Lol
Me too! Power of his voice! WOW
The first time i heard this song I had just gotten my driver's license and i was on my way to work. I had to pull over to listen, i was so blown away. As soon as I got off work I dashed out and bought it and i wore that sucker out. We were able to see Bob in concert about 10 years ago and he still absolutely blows it away.
Beautiful Loser is my favorite Seger song.... can't really go wrong with Rock and Roll never forgets and Still the same as well. I've always thought the best songs were never played enough. Turn the page was played every 5 minutes for a while so I got a little burned out. .. I haven't listened to this in forever! Thank you. .. I had forgotten just how good it was!
Because we are all a little bit older and less bolder that we used to be.
Beautiful Loser is an awesome song!!!
But only if you play Travelin’ Man together with Beautiful Loser.
@@alanpeterson4939 ha!! Very Awesome! !!! I very nearly said .... only listen if you play Kathmandu after...and Travelin man before! But I had already written and was too lazy to edit.
Till It Shines is a beautiful gem
Listening to Bob Seger is like eating comfort food.
Yes!’ Exactly ❤❤❤❤
His sacrifice, exhaustion, and weariness come through so beautifully. That horn lays up against his voice so well.
This is one of those songs that you can't help but to sing along with, especially the chorus.
Jamel_AKA_Jamal, "Her Strut", "Feel Like A Number", "Hollywood Nights", "Against the Wind", "Mainstreet", "Come To Poppa" and "Beautiful Loser" are some good Bob Seger songs to review!
I know Like a Rock is always associated with an ad but that is a killer song. Kathmandu too
Hollywood Nights is a must.
@@daveingrey2615 You'll have fun with Horizontal Bop , Get out of Denver, Rock and Roll Never Forgets and of course the most famous Old Time Rock and Roll.
I agree "Feel Like A Number" and...
U.M.C.
"Making Thunderbirds"
"Sunspot Baby"
"Fire Down Below"
"Horizontal Bop"
Seger has so many great songs it is a shame classic rock stations have forgotten most of them.
Come to Papa. Famous final scene. Can't get wrong with any of them really
this guy was told that he'd never make it with that voice.
Well then he was told by someone who's tone deaf.
@William Stefens To the back? Of the BANK I presume?
@William Stefens I do it too...you can back on it! LOL
HA! the music industry is FULL of idiot executives.
This recording was from the Live Bullet album. Recorded in Detroit ♥️
I grew up with his music. First time I saw him was at a bar when I was 16. (they let all the young girls in 🙄). He’s our home grown gem! Just a great soul who always remembered his roots. He still lives there now 🎶
You can hear the loneliness in Bob’s voice. He carries that song so well. Love it.
Detroit in the house
He has a soulful voice that for the last few decades been labeled "blue eyed soul" most embrace it but Darryl Hall from Hall and Oats rejects the term “I hate it; it’s a racist term, It assumes I’m coming from the outside. There’s always been that thing in America, where if you’re a white guy and you’re singing or playing in a black idiom, it’s like: ‘Why is he doing that? I grew up listening to the greats of Motown.. There is no color to soul. Soul music comes from the heart".
One of the greatest songs from one of the greatest singers ever!! His voice is soulful and smooth and that saxophone really sets the mood for the entire song. It's a perfect song.
Those of us who have been fans for decades love to see your honest reaction to this voice we love.
He had long ass hair .. the cliche' in the 70s was with long hairs. " Is that a woman?"
That really started in the 60's but yeah I was a long hair 70's teen and I know what you mean.
Loved those Detroit Biker Bad Boys with long hair! ♥
"You look like a girl" was a common insult.
@@ms.chuckfu1088~ maybe, but, my friends wore those insults like a badge of honor! They were hardcore, long haired, and leather jacketed bikers, and, we girls loved them! Heck, I even married one 44 years ago!
terry connelly That’s funny I’ve had my hair long since 1969 and back then most just got out of my way or are you a rock star. Lol.
This song was covered by Metallica as well. This and his other great song Against the Wind are my favs
A rare example of a cover being every bit as good as the original, very well done!
Really ? I have to check that out ! Must be awesome. Same type of gritty voice ! Thanks Meeple !
@@robertdavis5976 shinedown did simple man amazingly. In my opinion, if you haven't heard it check it out. Let me know what you think
On that same record Metallica did a good version of BOC's "Astronomy" and a better version of Thin Lizzy's "Whiskey in the Jar" that was better than the original IMO.
@@timturner3359 Good call sir, loved it!!
Check out Roll me away or The distance. You might change your mind.
Bob Seger will always be a favorite artist of mine. He threw the middle finger at the music industry and you gotta love it!
Yes he did!
My youngest son’s first concert with me!
A song by him I know for sure you'll recognize - Old Time Rock & Roll. Also, It is worth checking out the Metallica version of Turn the Page.
czcams.com/video/sMqNFAU0tOw/video.html
Brandon Wiesner Lord Have Mercy!!
That song could be Jamel's theme song!
OTR&R, the album version is Bob covering a demo done by the writer played by Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section.
I was blessed to see him perform in the 70’s. The saxophone player swung out over the audience playing his heart out.
Thank you for reacting to who I consider the “Boss”.
Here here 🙏🏻❤️
Alto Reed was in my dental office a while back and much to my surprise he brought the sax from this song. He played this song and the whole office, patients and staff went nuts. He was a great guy and is missed. Rest In Peace.
Wow great story! Bet some people were very very happy they went to the frickin' DENTIST that out-of-the-blue, SPECTACULAR DAY!!
Real musicians, real singer, no computers, no autotune just pure talent
How about Seger's Roll Me Away? I cry every time I hear it because it was played over the closing credits of the film "Mask".
Patrick Collins Mask! So good!
That movie gets me every time. It’s got a couple of Seger songs in it
God, I was so mad when I saw the later editions that cut the Seger out. It's not right.
darastarscream right ? I saw that version once....not the same.
laura kali as opposed to still the same? Lol sorry couldn’t resist
Alright here’s what I like about you AKA, everyone who feels it, feels it in the right spots, and you feel that shit...genuine my man.
Gives me the chills. I met my husband when he was on the road with the band, our son followed in his footsteps. Thanks for doing this.
Bob Seger, “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”, “Against the Wind”, “If I Were A Carpenter”
True story: when I was in college, a girl who lived in my dorm was dating Bob's guitarist. Most folk didn't know anyone in the band other than Bob Seger and one day he came to pick her up wearing a jacket that read "BOB SEGER AND THE SILVER BULLET BAND GUITARIST" on the back. I thought to myself you know, without that jacket, I'd never pick him out of a crowd. ;)
Joe Blow Never thought about it....so true!
He's an amazing singer. The song is basically about how tough it is to be a rich, famous, hugely successful rock star and he manages to get you to feal sorry for him. That's talent!
In those days we could really feel the whole song and just melt into it.
Was born in '75 but I never heard this until the early '90s. I still feel it. I never listen to it once or twice, I have to listen to it at least 7 or 8 times in a row.
Bob Seger has that timbre that makes you wonder why he didn't sing the blues as well. That is his catch..that blues voice in a rocker
He has, but they aren't well know like this one or many other great songs. Check out Tryin to live my life without you. That give an idea.
"Katmandu"
"The Fire Down Below"
"Sunspot Baby"
all great choices. You really cant go wrong with Seger. So many great songs.
Or fire lake
Should add No Man Land
Ship of Fools
I saw him twice in concert, and he sounded EXACTLY like this both times. This song brought down the house both times, the second concert the whole place sang along with him. He got a standing ovation after this song, which was not the last of the concert, for several minutes both times. Class act with enormous talent...
My man went to pause the song at 4:53 and the saxophone was like "get back!"
Ok Essential Bob Seger , not counting the two you have done, "Still the Same" "Against the Wind" "Her Strut" "We've Got Tonight""Old Time Rock and Roll"
Still the same is one of the best songs ever. It's my Vegas song.
Hollywood Nights, Main Street.
@@cryhwks Yeah glaring omissions to my list
I like all of the ones you listed and many more, The Kenny Rogers / Sheena Easton version of We've Got Tonight is pretty damned good too.
His voice just sits in the pocket. Just perfect for what he's singing about.
back in 1976, after discharge from the Army, I rode my bicycle from Detroit to Ft Huachuca, Arizona, roundtrip, and being a Bob Seger fan since 1965, I had this tune in my mind for the 5,000 mile trip...
My Husband was a musician, he did all Of Seger's songs, sounded just like him! He had that gravely sound to his voice. I sure do miss hearing that voice. R.I.P. Baby! You're singing with Elvis now!
You should really do “Southern Cross” by Stills, Cosby, and Nash.
Fave.
Please!
And the Jimmy Buffett cover of "Southern Cross" might be even better.
When he hears Southern Cross for the first time, he'll understand why he came this way...
Southern Cross by CS&N... great harmony on that tune!
When you see Bob in concert, and that sax rips out your heart, the whole place quietly erupts.
I love your videos, don't mind when you stop to comment. But you seemed as entranced as we ALL were, back in the 70s, listening to his fabulous voice singing this soulful song. Rendered you speechless, so to speak, what a tribute....best wishes to you, thanks for letting us enjoy your honest reactions.
One of the songs on every truck drivers favorite list...relate so much
Seger is a good man. He took several years off touring to care for a sick child , just doing local shows. When things were good, he resumed his career. Old Time Rock and Roll is his song.
you're moving to the beat and you realize Bob's vocals are the beat. that's smooth right there.
Bob Seger is one of my all time favorites
This song is great I love all of his music
R.I.P. Alto Reed, saxophone and friend for Bob for over 20 years. The songs Bob Seger has written {and performed} could stand on their own as poetry. His unique choice of words or phrases always say exactly what he wants the song to say.
Bob is the man! Even in his seventys he’s still rocking today.👍🏻👍🏻
Bob Seger is a LEGEND. Honestly, you react to any of his songs and the impact is always soul deep.
He was diagnosed with throat cancer and disbanded. He was absent for several years. Dr had told he might not be able to speak let alone sing due to the harsh radiation and chemo. He survived, made a strong come back and still sounded GREAT! Voice was just as strong as before
Bob Seger wrote, sang, and performed live so many great songs. The sax part by Chris “Alto” Reed pierces you.
You should finally react to Styx! Here are some of their best:
Come Sail Away
Renegade
Too Much Time On My Hands
Queen Of Spades

YES
@Move "Show Me the Way" makes a great Sunday-go-to-meeting rock & roll song. Always been one of my favorites.
Love Styx. Love Seger more. 😘
THE FAMOUS FINAL SCENE - Bob Seger ....- 👍 ✌
Yes!
Absolutely, Jamel likes songwriting and that song is a master class!
The sax got em!!!! I love that he almost broke his own arm he snapped it back so quick🤙
that sax gives me chills every time I hear it
The words you are looking for is gravitas & authenticity
The “echos from the amplifiers” line, his voice sounds a little like Kenny Rodgers there.
I actually thought that this was Kenny Rodgers for the longest time.
Kenny Rogers? Aaron Rodgers? C'mon, man
I've had this song stuck in my head the whole day. Played Metallica's version in the car, played this version at home later, and now one of my facebook connections shared this reaction video to his timeline leading me to your channel. I might start to think the universe is trying to tell me something... Anyway, you gained a follower. Thank you.
Jamal makes me so wish I could here these song first the first time again!
Let’s not forget The Bob Seger System: Ramblim’ Gamblim’ Man👍🏽
I was just 13 when I had to leave home
Knew I couldn't stick around
I had to roam
I've suggested that to him. Hope he checks it out!
I would add one more song of his that I didn't see listed by anyone: Old Time Rock N Roll.
That's one he's heard and doesn't know it, I bet ...
A few years ago, an ex had me sing this at karaoke.
I seriously thought I would destroy it... but I nailed it.
Never under estimate your own potential. Especially if others see it in you.
I appreciate your love towards my music hope you don’t stop liking my aspirations?
I think I was 22 when I got his album. Now I'm 68. Exact same intensity and impact.
