  • There is a new braid on the spinning reels in John Crews' boat. Check out his thoughts on the Sunline D-Braid.

    D-Braid is phenomenal! Amazing how thin and strong it is. 9lb D-Braid with 6lb D-Leader held up perfect for Great Lakes Smallmouth this past season.

      I went from Seaguar Smackdown Braid to D-Braid. To go along with your point, 9lb D-Braid is like a fine fiber compared to 10lb Smackdown. Kind of ridiculous how thin it is. So don’t be afraid to go heavier with the D-Braid. It is worth every penny!

    D Braid is a really great line. The reason it's more dense is because it has a solid core running through it. Got ahold of some 11# before it came to the states and am really impressed

    Love this Dbraid with FC Sniper. I use medical tape backing on my Exsence reels to prevent slipping. Works great and it's cheap.

    Interesting . . . may have to give this stuff a shot. I'm using the YGK sinking braid currently on my spinning reels . . . it's been a good line, no complaints, it too is a sinking braid. One thing I like about the YGK is the bright yellow color . . . easy to see for bite detetion. I'm curious how this 'Light Pink' color D-Braid looks in the water. Thanks for the heads up John !

    John, I just picked up a spool of the bubble gum sinking D-braid on sale. Im a light tackle guy and will throw jerk baits using it. I picked up the 7 Lb test. I jerkbait fish standing in a canoe so a short 6’ spinning rod is a must to work the bait all day as my feet are at water level!!! Therein lies my need for a sinking braid... the short rod mandates a braid to get casting distance and the sink helps with getting the braid at least off the surface. I hope I fare well with this purchase… thanks for the review.

    Sunline makes some good stuff. I use the Siglon braid for my BFS reels which works really well.
    I started using Varivas 4 & 8 Water Blue on my spinning gear this year with good results.
    I'll definitely be checking out the D-braid also.
    Nice that I can actually buy it here in Japan, some of the Sunline brands like the Xplasma Asegai Braided Line are not sold here in Japan. :(

    Thanks. Good video. I will try out the new braid and Flourocarbon. I have never used monofilaments for the initial spool wraps. I will try it. You mentioned cleaning the guides. At 6:04. Not sure what you meant by this. Are you using Daiwa 3000 size reels? Thanks again.

    Like the idea of it sinking. Wonder if that would be a better option for spinning reel and jerkbait fishing. I imagine i could get some extra depth or even keep that jerkbait nose down more🤔

    Okay I've been using this stuff since it came out. And I only use the 15 lb overall. The 11 lb I found is just way too thin and I have had breaking issues. And on top of that being so thin it's actually barely hard to see on a decent length cast. I tried the 19lb and it is pretty much similar to a suffix 832 15 lb test as far as diameter goes. Found it a little too stiff for my liking so my overall would be stick with a 15 lb and it's due you just fine

    What size spinning reel are you using? I exclusively use 3000 size reels and want to find a braid that comes in a big enough amount that I'm only buying one to spool the reel.

    • @JohnCrews
      @JohnCrews  Před rokem

      I like 3000 but went 2500 on these because they were faster gear ratio

    • @Grimey_Fishing
      @Grimey_Fishing Před rokem +1

      I think you'll find that unless you're using backing, you won't find a spool of braid that will fill your reel unless you buy the 600yd or bigger spools. If you bought a 125m spool of 20lb or 30lb line it would fill it up, but then it would be overkill and would cast horribly with lighter baits. I use mono backing on all my spinning reels now and I can choose how much of the braid I wish to use. I use 2-6lb on 1000 size reels and 6-15lb on anything bigger.

    This is embarrassing to ask and admit but I bought the 9lb and 7 lb spools and I generally use a blood knot to tie my 6-8 lb Fluoro leaders and I cannot for the life of me get my knots to keep. I never have this issue with power pro braid and everytime I tie a knot It either slips right through or breaks easily with a weak tug. Any suggestions?

    Ok, I'm wondering what possible reason i would have to pay a premium for this line? It sinks? it's less knotty? Maybe its greatest asset is that it catches fisherman really well?

    I got some D-Braid in the "15 lb" and did a break stength. It breaks at about 7lbs. The rating system used by the Japanese is different than USDM. An 8lb power pro is stronger than a 15lb D-Braid or any other Japanese rated line. Check it yourself by breaking some and measuring the break stength. The line diameter is the best measure to compare breaking strength, not the advertised rating, IMO.
    I am not bashing D-Braid. I like it and am running it on a few finesse setups. Just want to share what I found and pass on what to expect.

    • @Grimey_Fishing
      @Grimey_Fishing Před rokem

      I'm not questioning what you're saying, I just want to know if your knots were breaking or if it was the line. That could help me manage expectations and pick the right one to try. Thanks in advance.

    • @Amso4
      @Amso4 Před rokem

      @@Grimey_Fishing The breaks occur in the line. I use a modified San Diego Jam and seem to avoid knot breaks. I find most JDM thin braids (YKG) break in the line.

    I do not personally use spinning reels, but it seems weird that on spinning reels people use bright colored line but on bait casters they are worried about fish seeing the line and always use transparent or colored line.

      There is 120 meters on each spool. That is a lot of line so not sure how much you need. Put some backing on the spool before the braid and you should be good.
