- I rode my Triumph Thunderbird to Mont Saint Michel in France to photograph a sunset and find locations for a motorcycling and photography workshop tour. France is perfect for motorbikes and photography. Landscape photography depends on finding where to shoot an image and when the light will be at it's best.

You found some nice places to get photos when the light is in the best spots. Love your Photo biker videos. Those last shots looked awesome as the light and sky showed up even without many clouds. Can't wait for the next ride!

Nice spot to take Mont Michel with the straw. We have been there early in the morning having fog and then Mont Michel slowly appears out of the mist... wonderful :-) As you said, it is usuyll not the tourist area to find the special view...

That BSA is a beaut Ash. She's had it a vey long time. We've ridden down to Spain, South of France and many other journes and Anna insists on taking that 1957 BSA, despite owning a BMW and now a Harley Sportster too. BTW I've got a 350cc version. See link below... MIKE

Scouting around for the best view and possibly a good shot. I am enjoying seeing how you make it all possible to get closer and finding a good spot. Wouldn't a light tripod help while using a long lens?
Thanks Luigi. Taking a photo takes a fraction of a second, finding the photo can take a lot longer. Yes longer lens would be good on a tripod, but not a 'light tripod' - which would be in danger of vibration and blurring an image. In this case I only carried one tripod on the bike and it was holding up the video camera... MB
At a location like this, I'd have to spend a week worth of _spotting_ for locations, and then shoot.
You've gotta cover a large area of land when deciding where to shoot from at Mont St Michel. That is called a 'recce' - you find the best locations, determine the best time of day at those precise angles/locations and the required pieces of gear you'll need.
I always use a tripod, even in broad daylight. A polariser too.
But travel shooting is mostly futile - so many people shoot it. You've gotta come up with something different, which is no longer easy, and travel costs a lot.
Go to Venice in Italy and hire (pay) a young student to wear a few 'Carnivale' costumes in your shots. You don't need to be there when Carnivale is actually on (ie, end of Jan/early Feb) because it's still cold at that time of year. Get a signed Model Release. Those pix will sell.
But wherever I am, if the weather is not pristine for daytime travel shots (perfect blue skies) then I focus instead on night shooing when the sky isn't as important. The focus is thus on the neon and glitz in the city lights.

That brought back some memories! we've been a couple of times to watch Le Tour de France and we stayed at a campsite in Ponterson which had a cycle path fright up to Mont. I've turned onto the wrong side of the road but with a caravan on the back!! Great stuff - enjoyed it.

I think I got my sunset shot from near enough the same spot. We stayed nearby and it took a few days of visiting the local area before I found a spot that suited.

what is the make and model of your motor bike, it runs so smooth and quiet?
That one is a 2001 Triumph Thunderbird 900. I mostly ride a 1999 Triumph Legend (known as the 'Red Legend') which is in most Photo Biker videos. I've had it from new and it's on its second time around the mileometer. ... MIKE🙏😊

14:19 - Had you gotten down lower, say just a foot or two off the ground, you could have gotten more golden field and less bland, null sky and captured are far better photo imo being that there were no clouds in the sky, where the one you took would have worked.
