A Mormon Pageant: The Hill Cumorah

- For nearly a century, hundreds of members of the LDS Church gathered in upstate New York each summer to stage an epic pageant depicting stories from the Book of Mormon. In 2018 the Church announced that it is now "discouraging" these kinds of productions, and the Hill Cumorah pageant came to an end after its 2019 season.
I shot this at the Hill Cumorah Pageant in 2017, where I spent nearly three weeks with the massive cast and crew as they rehearsed and prepared for the show.

I'm 73 years old now as a child every summer I went with my grandmother to the pageant. We worked at the local church doing lunches. Camping yet and at that particular time in her life she was in her eighties late eighties but she was deaf. I loved it so much and I'm so sorry to hear that it's no longer being shown.

Now the church says this isn't the hill Cumorah mentioned in the book of Mormon and have canceled the show. It's still claimed to be the spot where Joseph found the buried plates, but not the place where the great battle occured.
Joseph Smith is rolling in his grave. The two Cumorahs theory totally ruins the chiastic arc of his work. SMH…

I just went to this pagent last night and it was such a powerful production. I am from Idaho, but I will have to find a way to bring my family to it next year for it's last year!
Is there going to be a pageant this year-2021?
I think the Hill Cumorah Pageant has been retired, at least for the moment. 2020 was supposed to be the final year but it was canceled due to covid. It's a crying shame.

So sad that all of those people are in a cult and don't even realize it. I pray that they receive the true gospel before it's too late.
We are not in a cult, what you need to do is actually read the Book of Mormon for yourself. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Lord's true church on this earth. You say the true gospel well in all other Christian, they teach different things from each other. The basis of the True Gospel of Jesus Christ, is Faith in Jesus Christ, Repentance of your sins, Baptism by immersion (by one who has authority to do so) and the Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. Please do not feel sorry for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, just open your heart and mind to the truth.
One day you'll know better.
You may need to look up the definition of a cult again.
I used to be in this cult and when I was i was always told "we aren't a cult". But it totally is and a lot of my family thinks they are saved but are not, because Christ says through Him alone can you be saved by grace, the FREE gift of God, so that no one can boast. Like the "temple worthy" lds can and they think they can WORK their way to a better level of heaven and become God's themselves. But Christ and the bible says there is but 1 God, and he is a jealous God and will not make you into God's in the afterlife. We are to be together as a church married to Christ in the presence of God Almighty. Please read the New Testament and see where the LDS religion/cult goes against the Bible. All of this about the Lamanites, Jaredities and Nephites has NO historical basis and has been proved wrong, more importantly it brings no one closer to the true gospel of Christ. Keep praying these people see they've been deceived and can leave this false religion. What questions are you asked when being baptized into this false church? They ask if you believe Joseph Smith not do you believe in Christ and his completely sufficient sacrifice for your sins like they should. Joseph Smith was a deceiver who has led many astray and will be punished in Hell for eternity where all false prophets go. Hopefully some will realize before its too late.
The LDS church has much to offer (if you don't believe me listen to the forgotten Carols) calling it a cult is whats getting to be so stale about Christianity, the hypocrisy and snobbism. I pray you start worrying about whats important. Christians are not the only ones who get into heaven.
